1994 MR2 GT-S owner here Correct assertion you have here. If I bolt on a GT3071r + a GOOD intercooler, I think with stock cams/ecu/fuel system, and of course a properly strengthened drivetrain/engine mounts/cv joints, I WILL run a 11.9 in the quarter. That's my goal. 2 power adders and an otherwise stock engine.

@@nived1862 pretty sure all 3000GTs are all wheel and Celica GT4 is very underrated getting back to the original comment. But yes with regards to your point it does get confusing for people when there are far inferior models under the same name. Celica and MR2 suffer that for sure. NSX and RX7 FD etc don’t have lame under powered versions so they remain untainted.

Correct, US market got ‘MR2 Turbo’ which was less powerful. Japan version is called MR2 GTS or GT

US only has 200 hp. Japan and other countries came with the 225hp motor and the 245hp motor as seen in the video

most we ever got in the US sw20's was 200hp. the japanese gts got up to 242 stock hp. at that point they were smoking the skylines and nsx 0-60. probably not the 1/4 mile though. Good thing about US versions is at least its still the 3sg engine. sup that bitch up. they can take a lot of power and boost.

the reason was the fuel. the west uses 93octane , japan has had 100 for years

@@jakedover5301 a big problem with the USDM 3SGTE was that it used a graphite headgasket, so if you tried turning the boost up it was prone to blowing out. The Gen 3 3SGTE in the Video got a multi layer steal headgasket and was much more resilient when pushing higher than stock boost levels

The mr2 u're seeing in this video has a ct20 turbo. This turbo doesn't lose power on top. I used to have an Mr2 swapped with the same motor (245hp) as the one in the video which wasn't offered in the US. Ran 13.3 at 103mph at the track bone stock swap.

USDM market only got the Gen 2 3SGTE with 200hp. The JDM market got a different version of the Gen 2 3SGTE that made 220hp, and thin in 1994 they got the Gen 3 3SGTE that made 245hp, which is the engine in the MR2 in the video

Fastest MR2 doesn't come anywhere near close to the fastest NSX. 13.2 vs 13.5 here.. fastest NSX is 12.8 vs 13.2 of the MR2.

@@Franzis2006 Wrong, lets take a 125cc motorcycle engine as an example. It makes most power at the high 12k rpms, while a big block v8 makes the most power at a much lower rpm

It really was boosted up actually and took off with pretty good acceleration actually so I could say that he could've given me some of a fight actually as I'm not gonna lie.....but would he of beaten my SS in a race though? Definitely not....but would've been a good and fun race though! And yeah....I know what you mean about trying to race someone that you know that you can beat anyways... 😂😂

Not really, NSX are still affordable, its the Supra(A80) and GTR(BNR34) thats being raised in their price in short notice

why should it be 20k used, they are a lot less common than the mr2 and had more R&D put into them to make them the ultimate car on a proper track, not a big oval

Not all of us ordinary peon's can afford the NSX. We have to make due with wut $ we have. THat NSX comparitively pretty much no expense spared, all aluminum monocoque chassis, double wishbone, it's got features out the ass I wish my daily driver 3rd gen 3sgte SW20 had. However, I am a big SW20 fanboy specifically because of this: un·der·dog /ˈəndərˌdôɡ/ Learn to pronounce noun a competitor thought to have little chance of winning a fight or contest. "we go into this game as the underdogs" The 3rd gen 3sgte SW20 was a beast slayer in its day, and a lot of people just don't know about it. I can't go over all the laundry list of improvements going from 2nd gen 3sgte to 3rd gen 3sgte, except I just call it "the good engine".
