We find out which motor is more powerful, the Bosch Gen 4 Performance CX or the Shimano EP80.
Our test is simple, an almost gentle uphill, same conditions, power settings max tune settings and a rider with the will to push as hard as possible on each bike three times.

Did you change the tune on the Shimano before? My EP801 came with the Boost mode not set at the maximum assist level.

Yes both motors were set to maximum power and response

How do you find the motors cruising next to each other on a fire road with friends, equal or does the bosch still pull away from shimano when hitting the limiter.

it sounds like the shimano was slightly quieter on the sprint climb than the CX would you agree? What about on generally level riding where maybe you are on the medium (not max) boost? Is one engine quieter than the other? I love the TQ50 (Trek Fuel EXE) as its nearly silent but it just doesnt have the power or, more importantly, the range that I am looking for in an ebike.

Yes it is.

👍Interesting that Shimano EP801 and the "common" Bosch engine now have 600W peek pover😊, but the most Interesting thing is, why Bosch with the Race motor still is the winner in Race, is the "Over Run" that the Bosch Race motor has, that is a "problem" and that has not been fair for many years😘
@alexbiketester
@alexbiketester 11 дней назад
The over run is peaky, and the raw peak power has more float to the spikes as they are delivering it.... Energy timing seems to be the key.

@@alexbiketester Of course, but a padel stike on a difficult and lumpy part when climbing, you lose both a lot of time and lose the flow. What the Bosch Race engine has with its Over Run will continue to be what makes them winners. Over Run will soon be a topic worth discussing and limiting within Emtb Race😉

Interesting results but I've found the biggest difference is when it gets really steep. Bosch CX-R vs the Dyname 4.0; Bosch was faster all over until it was on something to steep for walking. Curious to see how the 801 would fare in that situation; powerstage.
@alexbiketester

its pretty steep you cant see well in teh video i top out at about 20kph/22 so its about as a fair as a comparison as i can get in "real world situations." I could try on a steep tarmac surface that might be interesting as you dont loose grip.

The only way to actually get the max performance in is a short track like this which is very representative of real world use case. You are welcome to come try it yourself, I'm confident you will see and experience what I did.

@@alexbiketester Are you saying that because after you drop a certain cadence you are no longer getting the max performance of the motor? Eg. it takes more work to get the 801 to peak, but its easier to get peak from Bosch?
@alexbiketester
@alexbiketester Месяц назад
@@MC-ey8kw the peak is more sustained than Bosch. The Bosch feels "looser" in the sense that could well be described as you have done so...
