If you’re buddy just bought the kit and slapped it on it’s probably an untuned stage 1. That means it’s running the factory tune with minor fueling upgrades which leaves a lot on the table. A real tune would add 40-60hp. A tuned stage 2 Harrop (smaller pulley and injectors) adds about 60-80hp over stage 1. Tuned stage 2 is basically +175-200 wheel horsepower over stock.

A "untuned" Supercharged Tundra isn't really possible. If you think you'll bolt the blower on top and just go you're mistaken. There has to be some sort of software changes just to run. Otherwise it will throw the truck into limp mode and you won't go anywhere fast. Then if you do run a stage 2 and pulley down you'll be needing more than 93 octane or much larger fuel injectors, pump, rails, etc. All can be bought, are available to the public but as slow as the 5.7 V8 runs I don't think it was tuned by a good tuner. That Harrop is a 2.5 liter SC and my TRD Supercharger is only a 1.9 liter but is much more compatible with the truck and ECU/PCM than the Harrop or newer Whipple that's available for these 5.7 V8 Tundras. My truck ran a 12.76@105.5mph on 35's with 4.88 gears with only full catless, mandrel bent, 2.5" true duals (JBA longtube headers and JBA mid-pipes) as well as the SABM and aFe drop in filter, not to mention a custom tune. It runs and drives much like a stock tire Tundra with the factory 4.30 gears with the 4.88's and 35" Mts. It's just "different" when you gear these trucks right. Still a cool video and I'm more impressed by the newer truck than I was before. I know how a boosted 5.7 runs in the older 2nd gens.

I have a Harrop and had it as a stage 1 and now upgraded to stage 2. Harrop stage 1 is in fact untuned. You can reference the Harrop website and install instructions if you don’t believe me. It uses the factory calibration, with no changes to it whatsoever. It bandaids the need for more fuel by using a larger 340LPH fuel pump and a fuel pressure regulator that is boost referenced and runs at a higher pressure. Stage 2 entails a smaller pulley, 650cc injectors and a custom tune. As for the Harrop vs magnuson, both were tested back to back on the same day on the same truck at DAP. The Harrop blower ran 20 degrees cooler intake temps and PSI for PSI made 90hp more than the magnuson. It’s also a 2.65 liter not a 2.5. Not being argumentative, just correcting the record. That is a fast truck you have! Definitely good 1/4 times for a 6000 lb truck.

No substitution for a V8 Supercharged!! The new tundra might look a lot nicer inside, but the fact of the matter is turbos lag. A supercharger, goes almost instantaneously! I rather have the 21 Tundra over the 22 any day!

I am SO glad you posted this race b/c I was just thinking the other day, I wonder which truck is faster? V-8 or, T-6? But the race I REALLY wanted to see Jon, is naturally aspirated V8, vs Turbo 6, b/c I have the iForce 5.7 V8, and I love it "off the line", but after 75 yards, it's a dog on a leash. I wish I could get it FLASHED to liberate it's innate power. It really wants to GO, but the ECU says "uh uh uhhhh!!" 😞. I'm looking on y.t. for a drag between a 5.7 & the turbo v6.

Three truck lengths isn't close my friend. Also, superchargers will always defeat turbo chargers, because the turbos get you off the line because of the torque, but the horsepower is what gets you going fast. Supers are for HP and turbos are for torque.

I have a 2007 5.7 Regular cab short bed Tundra stock a few weeks ago i raced it with a 2022 tundra it’s crazy how it kept up with me I only took it by half a truck crazy how powerful those new tundras are 💯💯👍👍👍

All things being equal, the engine with the larger displacement will win. Both engines had forced induction. Add forced induction to those 5.7s and they are a forced to be reckoned with

Traction on with the tundra just kills the power. Its a weird system when when you loose any traction the truck kinda falls on its face. So you have to disable it but with the supercharger and the open diff it's just one wheel peel city with the tubdra especially with a super charger. Best way to launch a supercharged tundra is in 4hi.

My old 2008 with a smaller TRD Supercharger and only a custom intake, full exhaust, and tuned with 35" MT's and 4.88 gears with an Auburn Limited Slip differential would run wayyy better than this Harrop 2650 blower. Maybe he isn't familiar with turning all of the "nannies" off before trying to run the quarter. Don't get me wrong, the all new hybrid 3.5 in the Tundra is extremely impressive but it's just not going to run with a much more powerful boosted V8 plain and simple. Sadly my Tundra is for sale but whoever buys it will have one of the most well put together high powered 4x4 Crewmax! It's 6,200lbs and does the quarter in 12.76@105.5mph on 35's but doesn't shine until it gets off of the pavement and uses the gears and traction when the near 700bhp puts it down to all 4 Mastercraft MXT rubber. It's not even in the same category as both of these nice, newer trucks. The only good thing about an older truck is having more time to build a monster!

@Kevin K thank you Kevin. My tundra is supercharged but as far as normal highway driving, does shutting it off give less control or is there really no difference with it on or off? I like to go fast on the highway but if the control at the top speeds is less, I would probably need to keep traction on. Now I know for drag racing off the line, it is good to turn it off but I am more concerned about the normal high speed daily driving on highways.

Going straight, no difference. Traction control ON, only kicks in when you lose traction. In a drag race, try not to burnout

That truck was probably an untuned stage 1 which is around 520 crank Hp. A tuned stage 2 makes closer to that 600ish crank Hp. Mine got significantly quicker going stage 2.

Exactly. In my experience with turbo engines, there is at minimum 100-150 hp on the table with the stock turbos. My 7m I was able to get 125hp over stock and my 2j I easily got 500 plus whp on stock twins. Toyota leaves the consumer plenty of room to have fun, well at least they used to. 😄

Of course he gaped a 3.5 EcoBoost. I gap them all the time in my regular cab 13 RT ram. But I don't think I would have any good luck against the new tundra. The old tundra was a solid runner without the supercharger. I think a stock -2007 model tundra would probably get the 3.5 EcoBoost. This is just my observation from playing around in my truck. Hundreds hands down better than the EcoBoost in every way if I didn't love regular cab Street trucks. I'd have a 5-7 tundra big cab.
