@@8__D Never once heard of a blown head gasket in the 3.5 ecoboost. The 2.3 in the Focus RS had some issues early on, but that is all I have ever heard. I had a SHO with the 3.5 ecoboost and beat on it like no other car and it handled it quite well and impressed me. The turbo's are quoted by Ford to be a 150k mile turbo and I did replace one at 151k miles, but I was tuned from 60k miles.
@@nathanaelcole8466 I got a used ‘17 3.5 f-150 a few years ago with 89k miles, within not even a year it started overheating going up a long mountain pass near where I live when the turbos were in boost. I then noticed it was consuming coolant and took it to a dealer and they originally said that it was normal for these engines to do that 😂. They did a compression test and it failed. I had it towed to to a shop and he told me the same thing and that the head gasket was leaking causing coolant pressure to drop and hence the overheating and coolant consumption. I had the shop do the repairs since the dealer was way more expensive the shop recommended replacing the water pump, thermostat, and fixing the oil leaks while he was there and he quoted me over 7k. He then quoted me 10k for a new engine and at that point I was already in the hole having just bought the truck so I decided to just get a new engine so I can have at least a decent truck. But ya that was at 106k with no tuning, it’s my first ford but it may be my last if it acts up anymore.
I own a 22 Tremor with the 3.5 turbocharged engine. I put a 2.5 level kit on it with 35” tires. It will absolutely fly! I love my Tremor! The truck was absolutely awesome I’m the snow/ ice this week. The slippery drive mode was GOAT STATUS for me and my family!
Me too agate black. I’m going to tune it a bit. What blows me away is after driving in eco mode for awhile Normal mode seems like Sport mode!! This truck is fast!!!
Some things to consider as well. Loaded Crew Cab Tremor with panoramic moon roof, 33s and high clearance bumper, increased ride height. Tundra smaller cab no panoramic moonroof and more street oriented tires. Loaded ZR2 off-road truck with off-road tires and high clearance bumper. Increased ride height. GM and Ford are equipped in about their heaviest gas, non-hybrid form.
The new tundra is kind of a dog. The hybrid picks up quick but somehow it traps in the low 90s at the end of the quarter mile. The 6.2 gm's and 21+ 3.5 ecoboosts are ending the quarter mile at 100mph.
Probably just the new 10spd they have on the truck is more efficiency based since that wa something they were pushing a lot when they were having tests with journalists. They also were very proud of the transmissions weight and tech that's gone into it. TFL truck did a towing tests with both hybrid and non version and stated the truck overall was fast going up the Ike gauntlet under max towing with better mpgs than most of the other trucks except 1 I think. In terms of cabin noise it both versions were the quitest and about average on gear shifting. They did also claimed by personal experiences that it was the smoothest at shifting gears so maybe that's where it shines? I'm sure of you were to tune it you can sharpend up the trans and it might just make the world of difference but the f150 was an inspiration to toyota making their v6 tt no doubt.
@@Jaimeleon20 I love the 5.0 as much as anyone else but I've seen enough of these drag races on RU-vid to know the 3.5 EB beats the 5.0 in any configuration.
@@dre469 have you’ve tried the newer ones yet? I have a platinum fully loaded. Get the same 1/4 mile time as a 3.5 with a lighter trim level. But Only way I can actually know is test one out with my dragy and see if it beats my 5.0
What I saw was 3 nice trucks! I am totally impressed with the 2023 Tundra Sport I now own. When I put it in sport mode it’s a beast. More than enough power and so much fun to drive. I can definitely see that Ford has it going on…. that was impressive. This was a fun video!
I too also have just bought a 2023 Toyota Tundra Sport TRD and the power is finominal!..I wound if they put the Tundra in Sport Mode when they did the test? BUT HOLY CRAP DOSE IT MOVE!!!
I just purchased a Tundra Limited today and the first thing I noticed when driving it was how buttoned down it felt in comparison to the F150. The F150 was sloppy feeling in comparison. I was also surprised by the exhaust growl.
The hybrid powerboost F150 has even more horsepower and torque. I have the second gen Coyote 5.0 in my truck but those eco boosts can really haul ass in a hurry. Interesting race, thanks for lining the trucks up fellas
@N.I.Xhardcore well definitely off the line is smokes it. But the hp is the same and the 5.0 has a much better chance from a roll. It's actually close. 5.0 is even in some videos.
@@N.I.Xhardcore My boy has a 1st gen 3.5 eco boost. I actually beat him on the highway rolling at 60 in my 5.0. Granted his truck is high mileage and at the time i only had an intake and exhaust but really that shouldn't make that much of a difference. He definitely gets me off the line though. At the sound of the borla exhaust in my truck sounds so much better. 5.0 all day baby cheaaa!
@@camonly849 You are correct. My buddy's 3.5 is a little bit slower rolling at 60. Both of our trucks are super crew 4x4. But his steel truck is heavier, it was before the aluminum body and ive got the sport package and shorter bed. Actually off the line, I got him one time using 4 wheel drive to prevent traction issues. It's fairly close. Plus He has a first gen so I've got a bit more horse power. My truck sounds so much better though with that borla atak exhaust
Great video. Just bought a 23 Black Tremor 3.5L and love it. So capable off road and looks nasty. Ride and interior are better than my 18 Platinum. This engine is a beast and is no joke in sport mode. The Tremor is as fast as the Raptor in the 1/4 at 13.9sec and .1 slower in 0-60 at 5.3 sec vs 5.2 for Raptor (car & driver review). Massive low-end torque at 2000 rpms. But.. everything I read on the 6.2 GMC shows a 13.9 sec 1/4 and a 5.4 0-60. Not sure if this race was at altitude because I didn't think the gap was that big.
Just because the Tundra didn't kick down as fast doesn't mean it's garbage. To find out what transmission is garbage you'll have to wait 20 years. In 20 years though, we're all going to be driving EVs, and they will be doing the quarter under 10s.
@mikehughes8023 Maybe I read this wrong but I am Republican and every Republicans I know dog the hell out out EV and EV owners. This is because all EV owners are die hard libtards.
I have the Ford 3.5 The first time I raced my brothers 5.7 He was in my rear view instantly and it only got worse for him. The next race, I put in Sport Mod which puts the truck in 4 wheel drive, it pulled so hard I couldn’t believe it!
How is a ZR2 almost a Raptor killer? The Tremor has been chosen over it in the off-road tests I've seen, it is so far from a Raptor killer, ZR2 and Raptor should not be mentioned in the same conversation.
Who ever is taking a tremor over a zr2 for off road purposes is smoking something… Coming from a tremor owner and I have friends with zr2’s… A zr2’s has a better approach angle and comes stock with the equivalent to aftermarket resi shocks compared to tremor which is basically stock f150 shocks with a lift and some at tires…
Love my Powerboost with its 430hp and 570tq. Rarely get on it but the few times I’ve put in sport mode and launched it, it goes. No wheel spin when I switched to 4x4. And the built in 7.2kW genny is too cool.
I drove the PB other day and it was pretty damn quick. Then I talked to my friend who is a mechanic and he said he knows of 3 new F150's waiting on new transmissions before 5k miles. I don't feel like rolling the dice on that.
TREMOR 💪 I was shocked with how quick mine was when I got it. (It's a truck, it's not fast) Haven't had the chance to compare like this, but clearly proves what I had thought
The tundra was the fastest for its time when it came out too. Not a lot of people know that it came with a TRD supercharger that boosted the output to 505 hp
Enjoyed the races, I have the little Ecoboost the 2.7 and absolutely love how strong it pulls, drive it in eco mode and get 22.5 mpg, drove it around 300 miles to Lexington Kentucky and got an unreal 28 mpg, 24 coming back, they just don’t make a great sound, but their strong lil engines and I liked the 2.7 so much in my 2017 got it in my 2023!
Check out 5 star tuners, I got it when I bought my 2020 new. My 3.5l ecoboost gets 28-29 mpg highway if I drive it conservatively. Also increases hp and torque
@@michaelfrohn255 how do you think that effects long-term durability? I’ve seen a lot of 5 Star tunes on here, guess their a bout the best known tuner.
Would be interesting to know if they all had close rear end gear ratios. Those make a difference. Outcome was expected considering the weight of each vehicle. 👍🏻
This is everything in a drag race. A simple gear swap in any of the three trucks would drastically change the results. I would bet they all have a highway gear like a 2.73.
I used to be brand loyalist but now would buy whatever fits my needs the best in addition to my body. Seats are so important with how much I drive. Ford, while they have horrible fit and finish, usually has some very cozy seating.
I have a 2017 Mustang GT Premium and a 2018 F150 XLT. Agreed, both have very comfortable seats. Totally disagree about horrible fit and finish though. For starters, the body line gaps are as good as any other vehicles in their price range, and the quality feel and clean thump sound I get when I close the doors still surprising me with how good it is. Also neither vehicle has any interior rattles! Granted my mustang only has 4k miles on it, but my truck has over 40k miles, and not a single interior squeak or rattle when driving down the road.
@@kevinbreese5739 Glad you had a good experience so far! I would love a newer Mustang. Anyways, we did not have the best experience with our last Ford, seats were great, reliability was decent, but the fit and finish was not great. Sharp edges and panel gaps that were not aligned properly. I am not the only one with these issues and my previous job had tons of new Fords, all with the same issues, but at least they were reliable! Also, my wife's mother has a newer Ford and it had decent fit and finish but the reliability has been less than stellar but that can be said with almost any brand.
Yeah I never understand why these twin turbo guys get all wet and tickled when they beat a heavier N/A truck. How about you turbo the bigger one? Because than it'll not even be fair for any twin turbo 6 cylinder or 4 banger.
All of these manufacturers make a very unique truck. All of them being very capable. It really comes down to what looks best to you and offcourse your wallet
I’d be super curious what the DA is where this is filmed. That makes a massive difference in how the 6.2 ran. Turbos are hardly effected by it. Those 6.2’s are high 13 second 1/4 mile trucks in half decent DA.
Believe it or not this race actually came down to air drag coefficiency. The Tremor had a tunneau cover and all of the other truck beds were uncovered, believe me that made a huge difference in these races. One of the main things you do if you want to speed your truck up with better fuel economy is put a tunneau cover on it.
MJA Reacts, if you want to speed your truck up and get better fuel economy, you put twin turbos on it. Ford was first to go for it and are several generations in. It wasn’t the tonneau cover buddy. I have a cover for dry storage but it wasn’t always that way, I still pulled on cars you’d never expect. The truck is quick.
This race actually came down to air drag coefficiency. The Tremor was the only truck in this race with a tunneau cover, that in itself helped it cut through the air more efficiently giving it the advantage in this race, and subsequently winning.
What's the rpm of engine driving like 50 or 80 mph? So If other has like 2200 and other like almost 3000rpm,(like differences in gear ratio etc..) it's quite different to think what can for example make differences? And greetings from Finland 🇫🇮
I'm not sure exactly as I don't own one, but with the 10 speeds, even at 80 mph I'd bet below 2200 rpm. I believe the last three gears are all overdrive gears. Of course optional rear end ratios will change things but most owners go with the stock efficient one.
The Tundra 10 speed is a great transmission its just tuned towards smooth shifts instead of performance. A big problem with the Tundra is turbo lag when flooring it at roll race style speeds.
It is really nice for sure, almost identical ratios to the ZF 8 speed lol. But its not just turbo lag, its trans kickdown lag, I have a short on my channel showing how bad it is
@@jeffsioson500 Twin turbo in the Tundra is new, but Toyota isn’t new to turbocharging. Toyota has turbocharged engines when Ford still had iron block SOHC engines. It’s sluggish compared to the other trucks because of the transmission tuning like the video says. Notice in the first dig race and the roll races, the Tundra drops back initially but stays with the pack after the initial drop. That means it has the power, just not the transmission tuning.
No manufacturer is going to add forced induction to a v8 with the exception of dodge and the hellcat engine. Ford want's almost nothing to do with their v8, let alone forced induction v8. GM is stuck in their ways and rarely turbos anything. Nissan and Toyota hate turbos for some reason so don't expect anything from them. In the us the epa is destroying engines and forcing manufacturers to only care about emissions with hp and torque numbers being an after thought. And I think the main crux of the issue is kind of the argument why do you need more power? If 400 hp and 450lbs of torque will do 99% of what you want it to, what's the point of chasing more power? That's obviously not my mind set, as I think every v8 should come with a supercharger and turbo option, but people that think that way are dwindling. Your average guy buying trucks now is wearing skinny jeans and loafers doesn't care bout power, just that it can haul a few bags of mulch, a tv stand, or a bicycle and be in the lap of luxury while doing it.
The tundra is actually a 3.5L V6 turbo hybrid. But with the ford having such an advantage on torque, each time it shifts, it's in its peak torque which will help it just keep pulling.
I am assuming you ran premium gas in the 6.2L? I owned one.....mine absolutely needed premium. I'll never own another "truck" that's a daily driver and needs premium. Mine also ate lifters n pushrods....
@@Youcallthesebagels_ It has a little more HP so yeah it's a little faster. Not by much )))) But check Ike Gauntlet uphill towing test on the TFLTruck channel and you'll see that Tundra's turbocharged engine is WAY more efficient than the Ecoboost 🙂. And i know people with ecoboost engines and they all were not happy with their MPGs. Not to say some of them are garbage.
Great video. Liked the 3 way tie. 2 critiques for this channel. 1. The model of tundra did not suit this comparison (seemed like you already knew there should have been a TRD Pro in this test). 2. Be careful when you’re throwing around phrases like “almost a Raptor killer”. This comment made no sense at all. The ZR2 is trying to keep up with the Toyot TRD Pro and the Ford F-150 Tremor. The ZR2 isn’t even in the same ball park as the Raptor. The only major thing that sticks out about the Chevy ZR2 Silverado is the 6.2L and a little different bodywork. The Ram TRX isn’t even a Raptor killer. Only thing the Ram does better than the raptor is accelerate. You can prove my point if you grab a Raptor and a ZR2 Silverado and go run them through the desert at 100mph. I don’t think the ZR2 could even make it halfway through the BAJA 1000.
Nr1. It’s already hard getting cars for drags let alone the right model. But this was still close. Nr2. My comment brings more comments and more engagement
