Probably the most asked question at the track! What is your tire pressure? Well it’s not that simple, every car is different and are you sure your gauge is correct?
Great video. I have a 93 notch back and I'm switching from slicks to drag radials. I also run a 28 inch tires. I really didn't know where to start. This helps! Thanks!
This is the truth! I learned this the hard way wish I could have seen when I started out. Do what works for your car with your gauge. Great video with great information once again.
Very informative, i was lost a few years ago when i switched from 28/10/15 Drag Slicks to M/T 275/60 Pro Drag Radials. I Love the Radials, After quite a few passes I'm learning how they differ from Slicks. My car will probably Never see Drag Slicks Again. Going Low Nines, and these 275/60 Mickey Thompson, Drag Radials Will definitely handle alot more Power. Time for more Power under the Hood.
I have always used the same pressure gauge as well. Kinda always made sense to me plus I'm very anal about using the same tools that I work on my car with. Another thing that's just like tire pressure gauges are torque wrenches. Thank you turbo John 4 bringing up that subject and putting it out there 4 the amateurs or just some of the people that don't think about stuff like that LOL. Keep up the good work 👍🏁👍🏁
Very good video. A good racer explain me: you must inflate the highest tire pressure until the 60ft degrades. because not enough pressure is bad for stability on high speed and gear change. if the car move during gear change, there aren't enough pressure on your tyres. during my first race with my brand new front engine, I tested it. 5 - 5.5 - 6 and at 6.5 PSI, I arrived at the rev limiter before the arrival lane. First, I think: cool !!! to fast because usually I finish 200rpm before limiter but the time was poor. the reason: with my light dragster, with 6.5PSI my tyre did not centrifuge with speed and i finish with a poor end speed.I come back to 6 for no-prep and 5.5PSI for sticky track.
Thank you for the info man. Very much appreciated. My pop passed away 17 years ago, before I was able to pick his brain about the wealth of knowledge he’d acquired in racing. Your videos help so much. Do you have any recommendations for books? Specifically theory on the effects of suspension adjustment vs track condition, weight biasing, and set up? Thanks again!
Thanks. I have not seen any books on the drag radials, only the older big tire stuff. There is s thread on yellowbullet.com that is very helpful in the suspension tech section.
On a TnT day can you do a comparison video on your car of the 2 M/T radial pro's and the new radial Hoosier just came out with on your car and let us know the difference in the 60 ft times and all or if you and John Doc go in and do a track rental together would be a good day to test the 3 tires against each other and get some good data and who knows you might like the new Hoosier better when you try it out lol
I saw the new Hoosiers a few weeks ago, probably gonna try a set in the fall! When drag radials first game out, Hoosier was the leader! Maybe this tire will bring them back!
I’m getting what feels like body roll on a truck at around 160km/h and it shakes from side to side ( scary ) would you think this is a tire problem or from something else.
I just learned what my issues were last night. It was tire shaking. I had never experienced it before until last night. Typically adding a little pressure helps with radials shaking?
We run a full size reg cab shortbed turbo Chevy truck and it has yet to want to spin on a prepped surface. Running a 295 mt et street r. About to go to the pro. Usually have pressures set around 18 to 20lbs
This is a craftsman brand, but I have seen other brands as well. Love this little pump! Great when you get stuck in the staging lanes a long period of time.
