Thanks KR. I appreciate you watching the video. I was like people learn something when they watch my channel. Or see something they never seen before. Merry Christmas to you and your family, and stay tuned DBG
Thanks uncle Bob. Aluminum is my favorite metal. I will be dreaming about these aluminum parts and hoping I get them in my stocking. Merry Christmas to you and your family. Stay tuned to DBG
Badass👌🏼, would luv to have all that OldSchool rare gear also……..my very first mild Clevo 2V (350hp) had T&D hyd-rockers (bolt-downs), during the rebuild stage “up the ante” I’d sold them off in a flash……no one hear had ever seen a set🤷🏻♂️……quality🏁
I’ve never heard of hydraulic rockers from TD. Thanks so much Yanks, I always enjoy your comments. Hope you and your family have a great Christmas and happy holidays.
@@DragBoss351Cleveland yeh man, this was like around 93-94 , to suit a hyd-cam, Roller rockers were a fixed ratio & just bolt down (none adjustable) . Tougher but more so just for the roller tip i assume. Bob Matic (Ford Muscle Parts) who’d assembled my 12.0sec 2V combo (solid) bought them off me in a flash lol 🤷🏻♂️ Merry Christmas again🎄Best wishes in the new year buddy👍🏼🏁
Yessir!! I saw the Elliotts doing all kinds of welding and pinning heads in the day. That helps a bunch on chamber rigidity, especially when you get the compression way up there. We ran some A3s prepped that way, and if I have ever seen or heard of the A4s, i certainly do not remember it. I think if I had, I would remember the valve and port setups, so I'm going with the "never heard of them!!" route lol. We pinned every iron head we ran, a man named Waddell Wilson turned us on to that. Lots of folks don't know just how much those things flex and move around under high pressures.
I know it, Elmer, I’ve never heard of him either. But I did see a set a heads that Dan Jones had and he called them phase 1 1/2, and then intake ports Look like the trans Am Boss 302 heads. Love seeing all this stud. They dissected and cut and welded and brazed. All aspects to gain that edge.
Those Tunnel Port heads look crazy! I remember seeing an interview with Junior Johnson and he talked about them.. I will see if I can find it Merry Christmas to you and your family! Andy
Hell yeah! They must work from I hear. Junior Johnson moonshiner extraordinaire. Thanks so much for watching. I hope you and your family have a very merry Christmas and a happy holiday season. Stay tuned to DBG.
Just when you think you've seen it all, along comes all this stuff ! I suppose some works better than others. That alloy block would really help lighten the front of a road course car !!
I know it Adrian. You’re exactly right just amazes me what was out there. I think that trackBoss aluminum block will help the Cougar out for sure. And a road course car watch out. Hope you and your family have a very merry Christmas and happy new year. Stay tune a DBG.
@@DragBoss351Cleveland …. To save time, just skip the quantum physics equations and fast forward to the facts. 100 pounds less over the front wheel centerline will result in more extensive and expensive damage to the rear bumper and valance panel on launch and the crunch time when you lift targets all suspension components and OMG… the oil pan and everything else in the vicinity. Is that heavy metal old school filled block looking like a better idea now ??? 😁lmao.
Hello Tim! I have to do some searching , as there was an early aluminum cleveland head cast in Syracuse, NY at the old Oberdorffer foundry in the 80's. The foundry is gone now. Someone may remember what version was made there. They had some problems, getting a good casting. The foundry was old, but had some experienced people. Merry Christmas to you and the family!
John, I don’t know if you know this, but I grew up in Syracuse, New York, and surrounding area. I remember most of the foundries. Where was it located in Syracuse? It is so cool to hear that. What are what they poured. Hope you and your family have a happy new year, and a merry Christmas. I always appreciate your comments and contributory efforts to DBG. Stay tuned there’s more in store.
@@DragBoss351Cleveland The Oberdorffer foundry was on Thompson road, close to Carrier Air conditioning. There was a racer from Texas running a 1985 mustang with a 302 with these heads. He had some welding done, as he told me "some porosity" in the heads he got. His biggest problem was breaking the toploader. He went to a Jericho a little while later. My shop is about 3 miles from the NYS fairgrounds.
John. I know the road well. I graduated from LeMoyne College. I lived in Baldwinsville, and Marcellus. What shop do you own? We probably have even met each other. Merry Christmas 🎄
Thanks to videos like this, I’m always learning something new about what I didn’t know previously. Thanks to DBG for making all my epiphany’s possible 🏁
@@DragBoss351Cleveland …Timothy, I do believe that statement is correct. When you bring all the Cleveland supporters together on a global scale, and the moon is in the seventh house, and Jupiter aligns with Mars, peace will guide our planets, and love will steer the stars !!! Thanks to DragBoss, there will be a new world order. Even the hardcore LS contingent will see the error of their ways and stop trying to convince people that chrome wigits and double hump heads are the secret to unlock hidden horsepower. As a goodwill gesture they will voluntarily take their tired bowtie relics to the nearest recycling center and pay respect to our planet by having it all melted down to cast new iron and aluminum 4-V heads. It might put a few bauxite and iron ore mining operations out of business but their sacrifices will ensure that every person on earth will finally experience the joy of a Cleveland screaming at 9000 rpm’s. The only wars will be fought exclusively on quarter mile drag strips because people will acknowledge that eighth mile strips are for fairies that wear boots (Ozzy and Sabbath). “We are the World” will gladly be replaced by “I Heard Clevelands Make Power” and Karen Carpenter will be reanimated to join Richard to record “Stay Tuned, We’ve Only Just Begun “ in honor of your favorite mantra. I know it Ronnie. I’d love to see them on a running engine. I know Jay Cushman does have one that’s just sitting there on the engine stand on the floor. Be cool if you could get it to dyno. Merry Christmas to you and your family.
I just watched this from jail, Facebook jail that is. Great stuff Tim. That block certainly has a story to tell. The A4 heads are fascinating. Hope you and the family have a great Christmas. Regards Greg
Thanks so much Greg. Yes if these parts could talk, we’d be listing for ours. Glad you’re here. I hope the same for you. Have a merry Christmas to you and your family and stay tuned DBG.
Thanks Rudy. It’s not about brand, engine, it’s about learning, knowledge, it’s about using these ideas, examples, and information on your own cars and race program. You have the coolest stuff my hero done it again give your Dobie a pat on the head for me hope he's doing good happy holidays again I tell every ford man I know about you .later boss.
Hey Riffle, always good to hear from you. I always try to make it so you learn something or see something you never seen before I should say not always, but when I can. The Doberman is doing awesome. What a well behaved dog, he still has some puppy attitude. I hope you have a great holiday season and a merry Christmas. Thanks for sharing DragBoss garage with your buds.
thanks Tim that was a lot of really cool stuff, i was reading about a car called the P D L mustang 2 which ran over here in new zealand in the seventies. they ran the 351 cleveland engine and got a alloy block through Jack Braham, who through his f1 career had connections at ford and could get it for them.
I read a book in the Dunedin publicly library about that very block, ultimately supplied through Al Turner from the Australasian wing of Holman Moody. Specifically used in a blue Mustang II, most likely the PDL one. I posted a link on another response here to DBG. Have a great day.
Yes Craig, thanks for the heads up I’ve seen a reply from Dean, also, he replied here. That black could be the same black I should’ve picked it up when I could’ve but it wasn’t worth $1000 in shipping. Be pretty damn cool has the same engine block
Hey Tim! Happy New Year to you and your family.Just happened on to your site .I met you years ago when you were in the Lancaster area.I have a 32 Ford sedan with a 351 Cleveland backed up by a FMX .I built the car in the 90s and have never regretted daring to be different. Its good to see you're following your dream.Your car looks great. And your site is awesome. Thanks ,Roger
Hey Roger. I remember you. Thanks for helping me out with the gas work I did, with my old garage. That was the best ever. But had to move for work. I remember your car too. Glad you found my channel, lots too explore. Ck out the live chats. Thanks Roger. Need to send me pic of the 32.
Laut, I figured you needed something like that about now. You’re most welcome. Merry Christmas to you and your family and have a happy new year in tune into DBG, you’re always gonna learn something.
I remember seeing a engine equipped with a set of those heads I believe sometime back in the 1990s at The strip outside of Atlanta, GA. Someone said they belonged to Rusty Wallace and were being developed for Nascar Racing. I always wondered what they actually looked like and could never forget the two center exhaust ports. i don't remember what car it was in nor being able to see it run. Thanks for clearing up the mystery for me. I love the old Cleveland engine.
Very cool to hear Raymond. It’s stories like this substantiate the racing heritage. I love Rusty Wallace. Yes those same used exhaust ports are definitely unique for a Ford. Glad I could help you clear the mystery and I sure do. Love you The Cleveland too. Merry Christmas and have a happy new year.
Hey Clintmeister, I wondered where that plug came from. I never knew Pontiac had any high port aluminum heads. Is that what you’re talking about? Hope you have an awesome Christmas to you and your family. And happy new year.
That must’ve been it. It sure is a nice piece, or at least it was. We’ll have to find one of those aluminum blocks. Well, I have my good years going. Stay tune, have a great Christmas and happy new year.
Merry Christmas Tim and family . As always , very interesting content. Throughout my involvement and connections in the last 35 years I have seen and was told many experiments that have been done to make the mighty CLEVELAND more unbelievable. Anyway just awesome , keep safe .😎👍
All the welding on the A4s, was that to strengthen suspect weak points when running high valve spring pressures or was it to give more material above the ports to achieve a desired design or both? And Merry Christmas.
Yes, and you’re right on track that’s exactly what was there for. In the description I wrote it brief history of the motorsport heads. Merry Christmas to your family, and thanks for watching DBG
I never did come until I saw them. Jay Cushman, owns them. He has like the largest Ford collection known to man. The most rarest parts you’d ever believe I need a road trip there.
The c.1977 New Zealand Mustang II PDL car in the NZ TransAm series used a Al Turner supplied 366 Block for a 351 C 4V engine. It was blown up just like that English sourced repaired block.
Hey Dean. Maybe this was the block. I can’t remember if I said it but I did mention in the comments. The guy was in England I had to block. But the shipping was like close to 1000 bucks. It’s not worth it to me at that time. Cool block anyway you look at it. Thanks. Happy holidays.
@@DragBoss351Cleveland Contact Steve Holmes at the Roaring Season. The PDL Mustang II was built by PDL staff and friends in the workshop of PDL racing in Christchurch. Its stunning appearance for the era was backed up by its performance as Timaru driver Leo Leonard blitzed the opposition and set lap records throughout the country. When it last raced competitively in 1979 it held the outright saloon car lap records at Pukekohe, Bay Park, Manfeild, Wigram, Ruapuna, Timaru and Teretonga. The engine is of six litres capacity (366 cu inches), based on one of the rare aluminium Cleveland blocks , it had Gurney Weslake heads and developed 540 bhp. A truly great iconic NZ race car
That’s bad ass!! Like to see you take one of your fire breathing Cleveland’s to the No Name Nationals and join Jeff from 2Hacks Garage with his rowdy 521 Bird also Andy woods 351w base mixed up boss in Casper!! Thanks Jessie. Do you think anybody would buy it just trying to put all the information I can and some semblance of organization. I’m glad you’re here. Don’t forget to subscribe. Stay tuned to DBG
@@DragBoss351Cleveland yes people would buy it. There's a new found interest in this venerable engine. A crowd of Chevy diehards are finally even interested. Must have been a reason why Ford flooded the lifter oil gallery ? I always thought it interesting that a big valve low lift cam worked so well on the street. Cheers and happy holidays.
Fascinating! I just restored a 70 Mach 1 with a 71 Cleveland engine that has 2v heads. open chamber. So I bought a set of 4v cc 1970 heads. That someone cleaned up and installed 7/16 studs for roller rockers. It has SS valves. It was milled about 6 to 70000. Not sure. Just to clean it up I think. Question is do I need to lift the floors as others suggest. I have an air Edelbrock gap intake that’s going on and need a bit larger cam. But I’m Not stroking it-just trying to raise the overall seat of the pants power. For street use. 3:50 rear with a tremec 5 speed. Any advice is appreciated. You seem to know quite a bit about these engines. Such great information in all your videos !Thanks
Thanks Rick. If you fill floors can pick up quite a bit or torque. Close to 30 ft lbs. also cam needs to In at 106 ish ILC. 350-389 gear. Right stall speed. Those changes would rip your teeth out
By reconfiguring the port layout on the TP heads it must take a special (for that head only) camshaft . Do you think the factory supplied that? I cant see any company tooling up for that limited application.
I think you’re right about that, I also think it needed a different block but I’m not sure. Jay Cushman has one it’s running, from what I’ve heard and seen, did not run as well they thought However, Jay said that he ran one in a race and it lapped The Pack without any issues.
The Tunnel port heads were Junior Johnsons idea. 90 or 91 if I remember correctly they were down on power compared to what they (NASCAR ford Boys) were already running. Also they required a special block with the lifter bores in a different location than sbf. Around this same time NASCAR made the Ford teams pick one style of head with the same part number. Before this time they could run any of the motorsports Cleveland heads A3 B351 c302. This is why Ford changed to the C3 part number which was just a C302 head. Wood bros, Bud Moore, Roush, Yates, all had to summit their version of their heads to NASCAR and NASCAR made ALL of the Ford teams choose ONE design. The Yates team was running really good at the time but so was the Jack Roush team. Roush wasn't a "good old boy" he hadn't been in NASCAR racing that long so yates got the nod from the other Ford teams. Jack complained that he had 19 sets of heads he could no longer run. And that how the yates heads were born.
Great history, Erik thanks I am not up on nascar history. Good ol boys was what it was for sure. My buddy has the Yates head Robert used as a prototype. I have pics and should make a video on it. Yes they look cool but hears the same about block. Jay Cushman has a running engine and said it was ahead of everyone. Thanks
@@DragBoss351Cleveland If I remember correctly Yates took the side cant out to move the ring package up the piston to increase compression and for reliability. As you know on the Cleveland the intake valve relief makes a thin/weak spot on top/side of the piston. Maybe a little to thin for a 500 mile race.
at low velocity I could see that, but at high, I would wonder if there was a shear affect of the air fuel molecules not splatter. They work well though from reports.
@@lumbeewarrior2560 I can’t remember the cubic inch, it’s either like a 398, or like a 418. I remember the article in the car craft October 76 flyweight match racer.
