at least this fandom actually did that, others with movie adaptations hardly ever do fanart stuff (like literally, the only scene of the Hunger Games fanart that i could find is the one i made and put as my pfp) edit: i changed it lol
i liked the OG as they show how percy and annabeth looked when they were young like 11 or 12 but art made by viria shows percy and annabeth as teens like 16 or 17

Me when I first looked at the Annabeth and Percy art: Yeah, they don’t look great, but they look like realistic charactures of children. Which I can excuse. Me when I saw Grover: this is not a child.
@Isabella Cessna Actually they didn’t necessarily whitewash him. Grover’s ethnicity isn’t specified in the books, he’s only explicitly black in the movies.
I personally think that even though the original official art kind of matches the 7's age, they look more like 10 and 11-year-olds than mid-teenagers. I just think the art depicted them as younger than they should have been shown, though I do agree that they look less godly and (some of them) look more like the average teenager.
I think the reason we all prefer viria’s is because 1) it’s just so good compared to this art (no offense) 2)this is speculation,but the brighter colours might’ve helped along with the fresh looks 3)they’re hot 4)they’re accurate to the books more 5)(speculation) maybe the expressions are accurate?
I'm fine with Luke in the PJO show,as long as he comes across as a cool and angsty young man,him being not white and blond means people will stop calling him ripoff Malfoy,and sandy blonde Percy means people will be less likely to call him discount Harry.
Luke's hairline is basically a triangle and his scar looks like the lint from his shirt got stuck to his face. And the way hazel's teeth look disturb me.
7:09 Considering the owl is one of Athena's symbols, that actually makes sense, LOL. Also, I just have to say that the Magnus Chase characters have the worst old official art. The only decent one is Samirah's, and I don't like that she has hair sticking out of her hijab, since hijabs are worn to cover the hair, which significantly lowers my opinion on the art. I also may be the only person here who likes Leo's old art.
I think the problem with a lot of the drawings of the kids is that, to me, their faces look too old. Like, take the Nico one for example. It looks like a 40-year-old man's face pasted on a 10-year-old's body. Same for Grover's whole face and Annabeth's mouth in particular. The large foreheads are a big contributor to this problem by making it look like these young teens have receding hairlines or something.
In my mind I built them up as models so this art is pretty offensive for me. But it’s ok if you like it’s just that um...Percy is described differently-
I think magnus is also a nightmare fuel IDK about you but it scares me Also why does Nico have brown hair and green(?) eyes I thought the 3rd book(when we first meet him because I think the art supposed to be around that time) described him with black(or dark I don't remember) hair and brown(or dark brown maybe?) eyes
Tyson is cute, but I would rather have Tyson, the teeth aren't right, I imagine his hair would be longer and it would be really cool if it was covering his eye and there was some mist around it that would make it hard to see, I also always imagined Tyson with two eyebrows and they should have gave him more muscle. but that's just my opinion and I think Alex is nightmare fuel as well as Ares and Blitzen, Grover is ok, but it's not Grover
