Episode Summary:
Despite being born to a wealthy family, this perp has turned to a life of crime. And he’s good at it. But now he’s on the run. The LAPD has stakeouts in half a dozen places throughout Los Angeles. But still he eludes the police for months. (That’s why this is a two parter.) Oh, and we get to hear Joe Friday’s love life. Friday’s mother is his wingman. Nuff said.

Program Summary:
The synopsis you are about to read is true. Only the names have been changed to protect the innocent.
Perhaps the best know police procedural show of all time. Law and Order, CSI, and all the rest owe a debt of gratitude to Dragnet. In each episode the listeners only knew as much as the detectives, and uncovered the mystery or the culprits right along with Joe Friday, clue by clue.
Dragnet started on the radio in 1949, it starred Jack Webb as Joe Friday, Webb went on to star in the television show. Dragnet, at least for the time, was a very adult radio show. It dealt with sex crimes, it introduced police jargon, and of course Joe Friday could deal with crime and punishment in a very impersonal somewhat brutal fashion. His partner, Ben Romero played a bit of the comedic sidekick. He was the proverbial nervous nelly, or he was dealing with some little issue with his wife. Luckily Joe didn’t have wife troubles, no, our hero lived the bachelor’s life at home…with his mother.
It is hard to overemphasize just how much of Dragnet has become a part of popular culture. From the music “Dum-de-dum-dum, to the “only the names have been changed to protect the innocent” phrase, to Joe Friday’s …unique speaking style. Dragnet is a radio show. It aired from 1949 to 1956. Millions listened.
