You know what gets me is the fact that people think this is the final product like they've never seen a game trailer before this was a theatrical thing not what the game will look like assassins creed is a good example of that think of the trailers we see and what we get in the end 9 times out of 10 a glitchy mess but now it's just anger anger anger before even seeing some gameplay or giving it a legitimate chance people are so ready to hate something that nothing will get a fair chance it's just sad because this could be a good game not game of the century or whatever but just something nice to pass the time and have a little fun I'll wait and see some gameplay before deciding to get it right away or wait for sale but the sad thing is at the end of the day the same people already deciding they hate it will still preorder it and not just the base game but the collectors edition and will show it off in their rooms like they didn't just spend months shitting on it online it's honestly pathetic
They went from a realistic art style to a cartoonish art style, while the lighting looks great, the art style is such a disconnect for me especially since this is a continuation from Dragon Age Inquisition. It really just looks like a mobile game. I probably wont pick it up unless it somehow has some amazing game play.
People are conflating the cinematic trailer for actual ingame footage. Judge the artstyle then. Besides, Dragon Age has never really had a consistent art style anyway. You'd never tell DA: O and DA2 were the same franchise by looks alone
They should have never been forced to make Anthem which caused a lot of the creative leads who created these beloved franchises to leave the company.@@synapse913

1- Why does Harding look the same but Varric look like he's aged 100 years? 2- This looks completely different artistically than the Dreadwolf teasers we had a year or two ago. 3- Don't tell me we left the Solas plot hook open for a decade only to leave us with blue balls for it's conclusion.
exactly what I was thinking--I specifically looked up this trailer and no solas...like..I get they changed the name but...they've been 'building hype' about dread wolf for years, and if they make him some minor fucking villain, or ruin him and throw him away to make someone else look 'more powerful' im going to be PISSSSED

Dreadwolf made me have chills whenever i heard that name. Sounded simple yet amazing cause we all know that it's our Solas. I guess BioWare wanted to make sure to maybe capture the attention of Fortnite kids instead of old fashioned DA veterans. I'm gonna beg Solas to finish me off now before this releases. Been waiting for the continuation for the past 10 years (well 9 since Trespasser). Been waiting for so many years to see my Lavellan and Solas reunite and i got this. BIOWARE I GREW UP WITH YOUR GAMES ORIGINS GOT RELEASED WHEN I WAS 9 NOW I AM 24 WHAT THE HELL ARE YOU DOING! Don't we deserve something better?!

I understand entirely why people don't like the art direction. Dragon Age while not focused on realism has always, ALWAYS been a dark fantasy series. Its design, it's world, all of it. The massive jump from dark fantasy to this...admittedly cartoony style is not what a lot of people want or need. I'm not saying Veilguard (Terrible fucking name by the way) is going to suck, I'll reserve judgement until I see gameplay and have it in my hands, but Im not optimistic about it.
I would assume its just the way they wanted to introduce the characters and it has nothing to do with the animation and art direction of the actual game. Which still sucks, as I dont like this style at all.

Nine years. They've been working on D.A. 4 for nine years and THAT is what they've produced?! It looks like Warcraft with slightly better graphics. Cartoonish, campy, over the top and pandering to young kids. They're going to release THAT in a post Baldur's Gate 3 world, after keeping the games dedicated fan base waiting for a decade and hope to be taken seriously? The game play reveal coming in a couple days better be earth shattering and reality changing because that preview we've just watched looks like a just a few months work based on the blatantly copied ideas of a hundred other, better games.
Its art style and animation reminds me of skull and bones. I was expecting AAA. All their previous trailers gave off serious vibes, this art style and theme was cartoonish and comical. More what I would expect from fable not a dark well written fantasy like dragon age
Looks like Dragon Age is becoming super trash, Fortnite type of shit. Now i can confidently say Dragon Age is officially dead, way more dead than Andromeda. There you go Bioware.
The art design is kinda worrying, and not because it doesn't look good because it does. The problem is that EA has been sucking the life out of Bioware for years and now I'm not sure I trust them not to completely screw up this series with this entry. It could be a very good sign that that this game is going the way of Mass Effect Andromeda.
EA made the devs use the Frostbite engine, same one they made the devs use for Mass Effect Andromeda, so that's why it looks so similar. And that was established early on in development. The devs are working with what they have, and between that and actually having long hairstyles on the women that isn't just a bun!, I think it looks really good. I can see why some people are off-put by the vibe of the trailer, but I think it's because it's supposed to be a "meet the companions!" type trailer, so it may not be reflective of the tone of the actual story.
.... I liked Andromeda. Not the art though, but that was definitely in the rough days of Bioware using the Frostbite engine. I don't expect to accidentally make a monster in character creation nearly a decade later. At least, I hope I'm right.
I’m not the biggest DA fan but damn it was jarring to see the Overwatch art style and all the different designs for everything. It is so obvious they are trying to salvage whatever multiplayer mess they had before this cause it just looks like DA Suicide Squad tbh
I think this trailer deserves the criticism its getting. I know theres alot of people out there telling people to calm down and wait for Gameplay. But that isnt fair, the trailer states its using game engine footage and the tone of the trailer says alot about the final product. Im not saying its going to be bad but i would not blame anyone for thinking the worst here. This is what they decided to show us, and people do NOT like what they see.

In its defence, I think that because all the layoffs and scrapping ideas one after another they focused more on the game itself, rather than the cinematic trailer, so I thing they tried doing something similar to Inquisition (at least one of the trailers where all the heroes line up side by side to face off a red lyrium dragon)
I think it is also the rather last minute change because before the marketing focus was on Solas and the Dreadwolf but now they are focuseing on the Companions and main charecter coming together as an adveturing party and maybe a Guardian-of-Galaxy type family
Then they failed at aping the Inquisition trailer. The companion's trailer for Inquisiton fit right in with the series' tone. It was like the Suicide Squad movie with a humourous tone and giant text announcing every member.

@@ConnorLonergan Every Dragon Age game has maintained a serious tone, including its trailers. As the original commenter mentioned, Inquisition had companion trailers, and guess what-they kept their serious tone without needing giant text to announce each companion. The giant text gimmick is directly copied from modern superhero movies, which is fine for that genre as they are intended for all families. The DA series, however, has always been for mature audiences. If Inquisition could pull off companion trailers without resorting to this, then this trailer definitely didn't need to do it.
That final dragon honestly looks rad as hell. I didn’t care for the cartoonish look of the trailer, but given everything else we’ve seen on the game I don’t feel all that worried about how the game itself will look.
Honestly, I'm not that upset by the style. The tone... Will depend. My biggest issue is that I don't feel like the trailer gave me anything. Why is Varric the one handling this? Where are the rest of the inquisition? Honestly, since we've known it would be in Tevinter for some time, I kind of expected Dorian to still be a companion. Where the hell is Solas?! Who the hell are these robed dudes, and what do they matter? I just don't know. We'll see come Tuesday. Maybe.
I am not upset by the style either, upset is the wrong word alltogether, it feels more like we've been waiting for a decade only to get hit by something that looks downright awful, it looks like Borderlands art had a child with Fortnite and the entire trailer just looks Marvelesque for the lack of a better word, the characters look legitimately horrible more like tween soap opera type shit, hell even the title change is a big step down going from Dreadwolf to "The Veilguard" the fuck approved that? Lol Hopes weren't high on my end to start with both as a result of them constantly changing the game and Bioware just not being what it was, but this trailer has sorta crushed what little remained. I know there will inevitably be people saying "Hope for the best" and that was my view as well, but at this point, if someone figured this mess was a good idea, that means those same people probably had a lot of "good ideas"
Solas isn't there because they haven't given him the fortnite treatment yet... This is going to be... well... problematic... Really hoping the gameplay will save it and the story doesn't do the same 180...

I understand why they would do this kind of artstyle for a trailer. Seeing the records, those Free to Play online games like Fortnite or Overwatch has been consistent on having the high numbers of concurrent players. Adding to that adorable Griffin makes you think of some Hogwarts and Owlbears.
I wonder if this is the game that will cause the studio to close, this trailer is giving me Saints Row reboot vibes and we all know how that game turned out.
I really hope the 15 seconds of gameplay on Tuesday afternoon will show us something unique... 10 years of waiting is a lot but I'm a big fan of the series and I don't want to end up playing the first dragon age for 10 years or more because I don't know how much the series will continue
If this is the best trailer and aesthetic they had to put out? Immersion with cartoonish art.... yeah sure!!!! How did they went from once considered by most one of the Best RPG of All Time to this.... I hope Tuesday with the gameplay reveal doesn't mark the death of Dragon Age...
Was definitely not expecting it in that way. Looks like an attempt to get a fresh identitiy injected into Dragon Age.. maybe to get younger (?) audiences interested. Personally if the game play and story are good i am into it. For me the gameplay has to work though... it should be an absolutely solid RPG ..
I am highly disappointed at least finish the story I've went through and plat every dragon age and they left a cliff hanger on inquisition. They said dread wolf would be the next now we get this heaping pile there's a 15% chance of me getting this game I'm so enraged by this.
Big potencial in this game , i dont think they are going to made it , some many possibilities , Solas , possible origins dark demon returns since his is sealed in morrigan sons. Solas its the bigest treat or no his is the CARACTER for this game why hi is not in the trailer wtf.
Looks incredible did we watch the same thing it's garbage when a 15 year old cinematic looks better then this that tells you something origins is what every DA strives to be and while 2 and inquisition were close but just missed the mark this game is skipping over it to watch Velma
I'm not even disappointed. My reaction when seeing this... whatever, was "ughmeh". A ugh and a meh combined. The cartoony graphics look like garbage and the characters... I can already smell the bad writers. UGH. meh...
This looks terrible if the artstyle is any indication all the characters are going to constantly be quipping and super annoying just this isn't Dark Fantasy it's just awful
People are way too harsh on this entry. Now is a technologically different time, which allows for better lighting, wider color palette, better facial expressions. Everyone loves Baldur's Gate III, and noone tells that it should have looked darker like the first Baldur's Gate. Moreover, people seems to forget that Inquisition exists, where we could see the usage of newer technologies that made the game look like it does. I think it is not bad, just different and may take a minute to get used to if you never played Inquisition or it was a long time ago and you remember DA:O or DA2 way better
I am unnnnbelievably excited. One positive about a stylized look is that the game will not age as quickly. Also I think maybe BioWare getting roasted over uncanny valley stuff with Andromeda may have influenced this direction.
I really dont mind the artistic style, people are moaning about this, but I feel like are letting the pace and the tone of this trailer cloud their judgement. I highly doubt the game itself is going to have this kind of tone! 😂 We'll see on Tuesday I guess.
