Lmao, I genuinely though he was gonna say "I'm not THAT predictable...but I WOULD have it start off upside down while the guy says "Hey look, it says Boobs, ha-ha." just to semi-subvert expectations."
I will always love Pan's name and how it fits with the naming conventions of _both_ Son Goku's family (foods) and Mr. Satan's family (the Devil,) with it working as a reference to both bread and to the devilish-looking Greek deity.
It also works with Piccolo as well, as there's a pan flute. That said, I don't know if it works as well with Mr. Satan's family since Pan was a Greek god and isn't referenced in Christian mythos or tied to it in popular culture. The closest Pan is in reference to the devil is that later depictions of the devil resemble Pan, but it's nothing more than conflating two unrelated figures.
@@bradywolfe362 He doesn't "think" anything, that's how it's pronounced. If you listen to the Japanese dialogue, that's how they pronounce it. Same reason he emphasizes the -ku in Goku instead of the Go- like it is in English.
5:22 Can we talk about that Tom & Jerry moment with the soldier aiming the gun, Goku kicking and bending the barrel backwards, and the soldier shooting himself in the face as a result? That came WAY out of nowhere for me lmao
My old head cannon was that the capitalism planet is a planet that Frieza owned, and there were a bunch more like it, it what happened to planets he doesn't blow up, since Frieza is based off of a landlord or loanshark
Don't apologize for making your own fanfic in the middle of an episode. Your fanfic is the reason we are all subscribed and watching right now, that's the stuff we're here for guys! :)
21:45 Kaiser and Lani ain’t wrong. In the 2000’s we had NOTHING after DBGT finished airing on Toonami in terms of new Dragonball stuff. All there we had were AMV’s, fan made material like DBAF, Multiverse and of course DBZ Abridged, the video games which all retold the same story over and over again, and finally Dragon Ball Evolution. A movie that was so bad, it gave us DBZ: Battle of Gods four years later, and the Dragon Ball Renaissance happened in the 2010’s and is still going to this day. I don’t wanna hear a damn word from people going “man, I want Dragon Ball Super 2 already” because you newer Dragon Ball fans got it real good right now.
The video games were so important too! Even though Budokai 1 and Legacy of Goku 1 were both pretty bad, they were HUGE deals at the time because there was almost no other content.
Guess we were lucky in The Netherlands. Dragon Ball Z restarted completely multiple times because they had to play catch-up translating separate saga's. They restarted the show after the Freeza saga and later again after the Cell saga.
@@SonicmaniaVideos oh I agree that it’s ridiculous that she’s crying from a can but just out of context it’s like “how dare a child cry!” Without knowing anything
@SonicmaniaVideos she didn't have her guard up so it actually hit her. Usually I'd imagine there's the slightest ki barrier protecting them from basic dangers and being raised as a human and being more human in general, she has to be more conscious in keeping it up.
Hilarious thing about GT that you don’t notice until it gets pointed out is just how many characters have Mr Satan’s chin. Seriously, look at Redict, General Rildo, most of the Shadow Dragons and a bunch of the extras- they’ve all got that exact jawline!
I noticed, but only because I watched lion king and lion king 2 a lot and noticed how vitani looked more like a pridelander than an outlander. It was natural after that to notice distinct features like that
And keep in mind, depending on if you got an NTSC or PAL release, some people used to Rock the Dragon got their first exposure to Cha La Head Cha La. 😊
Goku, Trunks and Pan forgetting they can fly is akin to Goku forgetting he is capable of instant transmission in the Abridged series... But GT was considered canon at the time...
Okay, the gag with Pan getting hit with the can is so bad it loops around to being funny simply because the fact it got through, even for the late 80's/early 90's just from how pathetic it makes Pan.
In Elrond's defence, the fellowship was depending on stealth, and Gandalf was already drawing a lot of attention to the group. Vegeta not going to save the planet he lived on with his wife and kids has no such excuse.
DBZ vs GT can be summed up by looking at the fusions: Vegito, master of happy feet and psyops vs Gogeta, an insufferable dork who eats a rock while fighting a lizard
@@spiderken3102 Honeslty, that problaby would have been interesting plot point (I dont think tehy be able to handle it) but it would be really funny to see that happen, especially if he runs into the remains of the Freeza empire. Edit: Honeslty I think this is something that really bothered me when I watched GT but i could remenbering wrong, but we honeslty get no references or mentions of Freeza's Empire or even His Dad in any planet that the group visits wich would have made Vegeta travelling with them even better since he could go "Oh, I think i remenber this planet" and have some knowledge about the place, wich could be missing details or be very wrong due to the passage of time.
The entire time I watch the black star dragon ball arc in GT the only thing that ran through my mind is “if Vegeta was here shit would’ve gotten done so much more quicker” cause, you know, he’s actually traveled in outer space before!!
As someone who knows how bad GT is but appreciates it for some of it's novelty and ideas, even with shoddy execution, I appreciate going on this Grand Tour with you guys a lot. Much love.
A friend of mine (who’s a big fan of Dragon Ball and is the reason why I even bothered to watch abridged) gave me a summary of the entire GT plot one day and I was there thinking and telling him “okay, that’s a really good idea!” “Wow, that was so badly executed…” “oh wow, that sounds neat!” “oh… yeah I guess that works too (neutral)” And such TL;DR: from what I’ve heard, there were very good ideas, but horrible execution for most of them
"btw sorry we're kinda just doing our own fanfic over here" listen everyone who isn't down to watch you guys spin fanfiction ideas would've checked out somewhere around early season 3 of DBZA at the latest
"Kneel before Vegeta" - Prince Vegeta, the one best versed in intergalactic politics. It'd be either conquest, or destruction, no real middle ground. Also - you guys talking about what happens to the first guy that breaks Pan's heart, I immediately thought of the end of DevilArtemis's latest 'Cell vs' video (Cell vs Cell Max 3 for any that go looking).
14:20 Honestly, I actually feel like not only would they have to survive Pan, but also, despite her being from the "lineage of Kakarot", they'd even have to survive "uncle Vegeta" too. Because, despite his tough exterior, this Vegeta seems to have always a soft-spot towards girls. I mean, just look at how he treats his wife and daughter, compared to his son and the other boys. I get the feeling that if this Vegeta ever saw Pan crying, due to a break up, he would definitely have some words to say to the person who did it.
And not for nothing Grandpa Satan, beloved mascot of Earth. At the very least there be stigma around being the guy to make Satans grandkid cry. They’re not going to survive that even if they live.
Kaiser's rant about Goku being unable to use Instant Transmission but still able to go SSJ? I think it's implied that while, yes, he can go SSJ, he can't maintain it for as long as he usually can. Due to all the training he did in _DBZ,_ he was able to maintain SSJ for days on end until he was just completely out of energy or someone knocked him out. But later down the line in _DBGT,_ I think the longest we see him in SSJ is about an hour or so. And especially when he goes SSJ3 (SPOILERS (like you care, honestly)), he could only maintain it for about a minute before he regressed back to his base. And I honestly do like the idea that being turned into a kid threw his energy out of whack a bit and screwed with some of his techniques.
He hasn’t forgotten techniques he’s learned it’s just that he’s physically unable to control them in the same sort of way. It’s literally OG DragonBall Goku using these moves.
I thought the 1 minute thing was because he was dead and was only there for a day from Baba's magic, but entering SSJ3 accelerated the "clock" immensely? also the instant transmission might be because he's not used to the child body's size - like, a yard is ~1 long stride for an adult, but for a child it could be ~1.5, so he has to forcibly unlearn and recalibrate. agreed on the training though - no way that child body has the stamina of literal years upon years of training (nor the stomach space to fuel it)
@@glebglubBy "1 minute" they're referring to how GT Goku went SSJ3 and could only maintain the form for about that long vs. Goku in his fight with Kid Buu, who was able to maintain the form for a bit. Even with the abysmal Ki efficiency the form has.
I think it's more that he has an actual child's body that simply can't maintain the energy burn like an adult's can. Gotenks could only do it because it's a fusion.
Part of Pan’s character is that she wants to be taken more seriously, but a lot of times she’s not really helping her case with how reckless and childish she can be.
Oh man. Vegeta on the Capitalist Planet would have been so damn funny. "Ha Ha! We've impounded you ship and you must buy our-" BOOM! "Ha. No. I own you worthless planet now. Take those ruins of your castle and rebuild them into a statue of me. Victory for Vegeta.~"
NEVER apologize for going off on fanfic tangents in these videos, we're all here because of your DBZ fanfic in the first place! And yeah, Redict being a survivor of a Saiyan raid would be fantastic.
S++ editing by Nies for cutting in the reaction to the post-commentary in a way that is seamless and engaging. If there was a typical 'RU-vidr Reaction' style vid of this, I'd watch that as well. ..Just Saiyan.
As a dedicated GT hater, I decided to do my own watch through of GT cuz of you guys, I've actually been enjoying it a lot more than I thought I would after the first few episodes
When I first watched GT and got to this arc, I genuinely thought this was the planet/race that Freeza talked about in Dragon Ball Z Abridged. "Like the Klorfours. Filthy money grubbing Klorfours. Tried to Klorf me right out of my money." Wouldn't have made sense canonically, but I could imagine Freeza blowing up Imecka if they tried to pull that money-grubbing stuff on him.
That makes perfect sense, and if DBZA continuity said the wish to revive those killed by Freeza abd his men could bring Nappa back from the dead, so too could the Kwarfors if they'd died recently enough...
11:35 I actually think there was a channel here on RU-vid that started doing a GT Abridged where they added that to the character’s plot. In fact, he thinks that Goku IS Bardock simply from looking at his hair. The channel was shut down, but I do have a distinct memory of that being in there.
The incredible, INCREDIBLE irony of it all, regarding the dragonball material... we have that movie, Dragonball Evolution.... to thank for the dragonball movies Battle of Gods and the subsequent Super series etc. (The late) Toriyama was so, SO upset and (probably) pissed off at that movie, that it revitalised his desire to work on the Dragonball series again. That movie was truly a blessing disguised as a godawful curse.
Hope you guys like wandering to random planets and having just the lowest-stakes adventures ever! Had a friend who said she'd come with me on this journey of both watching for the first time in our fandom, and by this episode, she had tapped out. And I...could not blame her.
Well...that's what was advertised, but 3 episodes on the same planet seems to run opposite of returning to Dragon Ball's roots. So, the upcoming episodes would be better than this.
Im like 90% sure if yall did GT these would be the Cloraflors Freeza talked about that clorphed him out of his money. He missed one, really is loosing his touch at genocide. Edit : Reddick's race makes a cameo in the Super Magna among Freeza's crew during the F saga.
I remember loving ledgic so much because the idea of this cool blue alien guy who has chains and can just sprout weapons out of his body seem so cool to me
Totally not Mark pointed this on in his GT video, but it's implied that the Kamehameha was what made Ledgic realize Goku is a Saiyan, since he only points out he is a Saiyan after Goku uses the Kamehameha... Which doesn't make any sense since the Kamehameha was invented by Master Roshi, it's not a Saiyan technique.
Hey TFS, I don't know if you'll read this but if you do; I just wanted to say thank you for bringing so much joy and laughter to us fans. My friend and I shared so many good times quoting you guys and we were so stoked when yall came out with the commentary episodes. He passed away suddenly at 33 years old just a couple days ago and i'm left regretting all the words left unspoken. All the episodes he won't be able to watch. I'm heartbroken but thankful for all the laughter and entertainment you've brought us over the years. Rest in peace my brother, Scott. Tell King Yemma I said hi ❤
Please keep uploading guys. I thought when the abridged reactions were over this channel was over, but they keep finding more content to put out. I love it!
Pan is my favorite character in DB because she was the first character I saw (So damn young the first series I started with was GT). But, i'm not going to say that she isn't a frustratingly inconsistent character. As you guys said, she's simultaneously the best and worst character in GT and it's entirely dependent upon the scene. Super Hero definitely pushed her further into the best parts of her character and hopefully we can see more of that shine into the future if Dragon Ball continues.
Ki supposedly has both a physical and spiritual aspect that has to be in balance to be used effectively. Since goku's body has been messed with he can't effectively use his ki techniques.
I love the editor. When they were talking about Ledgic's backstory and how it would be cool if he mentioned Bardock conquering his planet. I was waiting for them to mention Granolah and they didn't. It would have drove me nuts if the editor didn't fade in his picture.
That’s how abridged series occur organically. Perhaps they’ll do a few episodes to abridge the entire GT series but they’ll never make a serious attempt at abridging the entire series.
The bad guy of this planet is funnily, the same as Frieza, in that they are inspired by the one thing Toriyama has gone on record of hating: land speculators and the idea of renting. Toriyama has kept his politics to himself for most of his life but he made clear he does not like the idea of renting property because he believes you should own the property you live in, and he REALLY does not like rampant real estate speculation which when you think about it, is basically what the Frieza Force does with planets.
Watched this in it's entirety while walking in a blizzard lol Helped keep me warm (or at least kept me from realizing how cold my hands were without gloves 😅)
Honestly the bit about the trouble whoever broke Pan’s heart would be in made me think of something. I’ve always headcanoned Pan and Bulla as besties, so I’m imagining Bulla going home after comforting Pan and this exchange happening- “Mom, can I have some cash? I need to ruin a guy’s life.” “Sweetie, we’ve talked about this.” “Now hold on. Why exactly do you want to do this?” “He made Pan cry.” “… How much do you need?” “And do you need the body hidden?”
17:33 I think a great example of what kaiser is talking about is during the tournament of power. One of my favourite moments is the first clash between goku and jiren, goku stances up and looks incredibly nervous at even tackling jiren, flinching slightly as he glares at goku. During the entire fight there are no words spoken, goku just keeps acending higher and higher to gauge sirens reactions to the different levels, with him only moving to block at super sayan god. And even then he only uses a finger When that doesn't work, he go puts in a lot of effort to transform into blue and walks right up to jiren, glaring at him before hammering a punch and one of the best choreographies from super begins But in the lead up people keep fucking yapping and describing what's happening when it doesn't need to be said, so my favourite way to watch this is through a supercut where it just shows the fight
I love these be use with get to imagine what TFS would have done if they had covered things like Buu and GT. After years of watching DBZA I can just picture the jokes flying in some scenes.
17:11 The Goku/Vegeta beam clash originally had a lot of Yajirobe being like “Oh man, should've added another entree on my dish right before this!”. Someone correct me on whether or not that bit was included in Kai or not.
im actually really loving this series, this is a MUCH better way of just watching a watch along. its a piece by piece critique of GT start to finish that doesnt FULLY spoil it if you wanted to watch it yourself. kinda reminds me of red letter media a lot
Actually, Redict/Ledgic DOES appear in Dragon Ball GT: Transformation (beat-em-up by Webfoot that covers up to the fight with Great Ape Baby) as a boss! Also, Dokkan Battle, Heroes, and Legends, according to the wiki.
TBF in the scene with Pan getting the can hit on her head. If your remember the time Kirllin through a rock at Goku, and Goku got pissed, so if they're not expecting it, it can hurt haha
The power creep in GT is almost as crazy as Super's because Goku in base even after being shrunk down is able to casually slap around SSJ Gohan and Goten like canon fodder. Keep in mind the databook for GT says that Gohan's mystic form in Buu remained his base and he added SSJ on top of that. This is consistent with Rildo and Baby being above Buu by Goku and Goten's testaments. so yeah Base GT Goku>Current Cast>=Buu saga top tiers This is partially why everyone says that the other characters are so useless in this show, because Goku essentially became too powerful until the main villains show up.
22:00 I know in Japan the 'Dragonball comeback' is largely considered to be Dragonball Heroes. That game was and is an absolute phenomenon and became one of the highest grossing arcade machines ever in the country. It introduced a whole new generation to Dragonball and ended up putting the series back into the public mind over there.
I find it hilarious how GT lays down the seeds of Goku and Redict meeting again some day....only for that to NEVER happen. God there is so much about the first 10 eps of GT that I straight-up DON'T remember at all.
My guess is they thought the show was going to run longer than it did and be a bigger success than it was. They ended up being wrong and just never got around to it.
In the UK we had what’s known as the “blue water” dub, which in my opinion has the best version of the opening theme! Not suggesting you have to watch ep1 in full for a third time ;) but maybe just the theme? Also when you get to baby saga, his voice is very different!
