Just to clarify, this video is not a diss against any one animator. Animation is hard as hell and if you want to point fingers, point them at Toei animation, who insisted on making Dragon Ball Super a weekly anime for three years straight instead of a high quality seasonal shonen like so many other shows. All the animators here were forced to rush out what they could. We should be laughing at Toei for looking at these shots and thinking "hey, DB fans won't care."
I think they should just use Shintani’s animation style for the TV show honestly. It’s way easier on the animators and would help the product overall if they’re going to insist on pumping out episodes like that. Save Yamamuro’s style for the movies
@@Percyco I mean, yeah they are. Fuji TV have aired plenty of non-weekly anime, they easily would have let Super be a seasonal anime instead of a weekly since DB is a huge IP. Toei wanted a weekly show and rushed it out, causing massive strain on the animators. Toei is to blame.
@@Percyco Shueisha only own the Dragon Ball manga and merchandise, which is what Bandai/Namco have stakes in. Dragon Ball Super could have been a line of one shot movies/video games and they wouldn’t have given a shit. Toei and Fuji TV have and always will have the first and final say on what they are able to produce under a given time because they don’t just own Toei Animation, they own the rights to the Tv anime. They knew what might go down given their production history on stuff like Sailor Moon Crystal and they did it anyway.
I remember finding out I wasn't the only one pissed about the animation, I thought I was wearing nostalgia glasses and just thought the new style was screwing it up
@@mellamojeff458 I was being sarcastic lol. The animation in this show sure wasn't the best but it got better later on. Hopefully dbs season 2 has akira toriyama animate or have the animators from dbs broly help.
@@jussalex_6560 bruh clearly you haven't seen Black Goku's arc and Tournament of Power. Some episodes looks a bit stiff and rough on these arc, but only SOME. Unlike before, Beerus and Frieza arc is pretty much all badly animated.
@@RisingDeath key word fight animation, the artwork in dbz was far superior to dbs but the fight animation in dbs mostly in the TOP was better than in dbz
It’s wasn’t budget, after the battle of gods movie they decided to make the dbs anime and rush the animators and gave them no time, they gave the animators preproduction only 2 months while a normal anime has 6 months, so they had to make crappy animation to stay on track with the weekly episodes
They pumped a LOT of money into dbs because they didn't have enough time for just the toei studio alone to animate it so they had to outsource other studios to get animations done which resulted in the poor quality of the episodes. SEVERE Lack of time and a lot of outsourcing of other studios
ChuEmTea then don’t make it lmfao last time Dragon Ball Z made something was GT why am I looking at kid Trunks and Kid Goten on top of that even if people wanna say “Oh that’s not cannon” even with Dragon Ball Z this doesn’t make sense how about not make a series that literally is a cash grab and will sell simply because it’s Dragon Ball Z and new 20 years later from the original animated series if they tried to make an actual continuation around the time GT or DBZ was made I guarantee you they wouldn’t of paid people to make awful animations like we are seeing right now and it actually would be good instead of cash grabbing 20 years later
@@donniewokington5055 Peoples like you should quit watching anime because your criticisms doesn't benefit the industry. First of all, DragonBall started on a very strict schedule and they couldn't stop it because it's a TV series and meant to be released weekly. Budget doesn't have anything to do with this, in fact, DragonBall Super is made VERY expensive because they hired a lot of key animators, 2nd key animators and animation supervisors on its early episodes. What came out is not really satisfying to look at as the characters are off-model and the animation is very stiff due to less time. This is not something to blame because it's also for the benefit of demanding fans who usually brags about not having an anime season and people being very impatient for the series. What you've all said was very disgusting and disrespectful for the animators who's working hard to get the episode in time. These criticisms had been going on since 3 years, just shut it, it's over. DragonBall Super: Broly on the other hand was a success both in animation and story, so there's really no point of criticizing these "bad animation" this time.
ChuEmTea ChuEmTea that’s a very programmed answer on your part let me key in on how that’s the case “Your criticisms doesn’t benefit the industry” that’s the problem with Dragon Ball stans you don’t criticize when something is poorly made so your gonna get anything and like it because it’s Dragon Ball thats why they don’t care to actually put better thoughts in to the writing and you basically said they gave you a bad Series but the Movie was an success even the movie had awful writing and you stated “the animators had to make them fast” even if that was the case and the owners actually cared for it (which they clearly don’t) wouldn’t of been released in that format which goes back to my point of it being a cash grab if they actually cared about to the product which is the anime it wouldn’t of sacrificed the anime quality for a deadline it would of waited and made sure everything was good that excuse by you is basically invalid oh yeah and of course the Broly movie is going to sell you can just shut it anything made with Dragon Ball attached to it sells anyway doesn’t mean it’s good DBS is catered to little kids who wouldn’t know what’s good if it bit them in the ass with the simple dialogue and no tension fights thrown at them no blood etc all trying to make it kid friendly and I’m a fan of a lot of anime just all of them don’t usually cash grab off of nostalgia 20 years later so basically what I said prior is still factual
@@donniewokington5055 Listen, Toei doesn't just animate only DragonBall ITSELF. It was handling One piece, Toriko and other shonen as well. That means, same animators will be INVOLVED into these series and would make them work more which will put stress and lack of time. I still don't know how you keep saying Dragonball is a "cash grab" without even valid proof and explanations, and what's even WORSE is you're claiming it as "factual." That's pretty disgusting man. I hate repeating myself, but I'm saying this again. BUDGET has no INVOLVEMENT in Anime's quality production, nor that's the intent of the series. Toei is a huge COMPANY, budget wouldn't be their problem. Their main point was entertainment and these shows were peoples' favorites in Japan and it airs on TV weekly. To keep them entertained, they would need to produce more. Why won't you get that and proceed to say "SuPer cAsh Grab", you don't even know what a fact and opinion is. The show already ended 3 years ago, your criticism is too late fam. You're that type of person to talk crap on Hitler even though he's dead lmao. Also learn reading comprehension, it seems like you didn't understand what I said earlier. Movie was a success, majority AGREES, and it had great ratings by officials. Rotten tomatoes - 84% Commonsensemedia - 3/5 IGN - 8.5/10 So where's your facts huh? What about those "cash grab" gibberish you keep yapping about? And the "DBS Broly's plot is horrible"? I can tell you're one of those Americans who always complains at little stuffs and little flaws, I find it very annoying.
That’s what I thought about battle of gods when it first came out and I saw it I thought for fan fic it isn’t bad and then I was surprised out of my soul it was real
4:20 It's embarrassing whenever a character moves their hands alternatingly like this for blasts or punches. Everything moves at a constant rate with no snappiness or blurring tricks.
They could have avoided this by not trying to redo the first 2 seasons that already had superior movies made. They could have just started Super off after the Resurrection F Movie.
@@artsmart_5805 Which is why I'm saying instead of spending time redoing the movies, they could have use that extra times just working on Super after the Resurrection F movies.
@@Mr.YasQueen no the thing is even if they started on a different arc they would still have the same schedule because they would still want to release it early to capitalize on dragon ball gaining popularity again. So either way it would end up with bad animation
@@artsmart_5805 Which is why I'm saying they should have spent time doing something else and that would include changing their current format and schedule. Even the seasons after resurrection F and Battle of gods have questionable animation. Super should have been seasonal.
The movie had good animations. The only bad thing about the movie is the cgi. But dbs animation is so bad. Only the tournament arcs had good animations sadly. Though it wont happen, i wish they remake dbs with good quality.
Kids nowadays haven't even watched DBZ and they come at you barking and defending the shit they call DBS. Toei turned Kakarot into a goof who's always laughing and joking and never serious. they Fd up the animation. Killed the intensity. Removed the crazy energetic stare-offs. They made turning into a super saiyan a normal everyday thing. they RUINNED the transformations. They failed to convey a sense of high energy and damage in their dumb fight scenes, like the surroundings are totally unaffected by a transforming saiyan wth??? Since when did that happen? mfn yamcha could so that in DBZ. Hope they fix their mistakes because they're ruinning it!
Well i feel bad for naoki tate because he has to rush like sooo much unlike goku vs jiren he has more time and some people say wohever animated this should die and i dont want naoki tate to die he is amgood animator he only has less time who agrees
Yeah Naoke Tate is easily one of the best animators at Toei. At the end of the day Toei are to blame, an unrealistic deadline can make even the most talented animator look bad.
Well technically as a animator myself I don't really think the animators really had the time to make the animation they needed too so they just rushed cuz tight schedule or some shit, however no matter what u can't have a fight scene like Goku vs Frieza and the animation be this dog shitty and expect people to take it seriously
@@whitedynamic2066As an animator myself, you can do way better using puppets and 2d animation with a noob program like flash animator.. This was made by a group of Muppets payed with chips.
@@xnortheast1106 if course it’s true. That’s why it’s a dumb comment because it’s obviously going to be better animation. OPM is seasonal and DBS was weekly
It's not the fault of the animators. It was bandai and Fuji tv that gave the animators such a horribly tight schedule to pump out episodes. I feel so bad for the circumstances they were put under
i see shows like demon slayer and think how the hell does dragon ball have such bad animatione? if anything dragonball should have the biggest budget since its been around for god knows how long and yet they still let the incompetent people animate smh
Yeah I actually almost cried for them after finding out the circumstances they were put under. Since I know how hard drawing can be let alone having to draw thousands of images per month
@@blackatem1174 it's alright imo, but yeah it lacks intensity and dynamism you're not wrong. I think the art could've made up for it with some extra editing but... Sadly
The animation is worse than the art itself I mean this is the kind of animation I'd expect from someone who has only been animating for a year on fucking flipa clip
@@artsmart_5805Don't try to justify it. It's not just about animation. The poses are horrible and the characters are drawn in a terrible way. A good artist is able to create a character with good proportion in less than a minute. Those people aren't able to create an episode using 2d animation.
good thing i skipped this shitty chapters, i already saw the movies, that were bad but short, i dont need to see the same time again with worst animation, worst pacing and more screen time
am I the only one who doesn't recognise bad animation? Like, this happened to me with one punch man S2, I had no idea that the animation is actually bad until I read about it online from other people
i get it from when they are far away BUT BRO THIS IS MY LEVEL OF ANIMATION MAYBE SLIGHTLY WORSE if i knew how to draw ssj goku this would be my level of animating him ( animation is still very hard and even people who can draw really well struggle with it such as me )
