The best unit is the zombie octopus. Dragons doesn't really offer anything other than occasional damage reflection, limited closer range aoe, and flight. Their breath attacks don't do almost any damage outside of element pairing, so they are mostly there to take up space and get hit, which makes them passive units. Knights have gear and finishers, which help them at range and with spike damage; limited healing magic, phalanx and rampart aura. Like dragons, they are incredibly slow, and mostly serve to take up space. They are less passive than dragons due to their finishers and healing magic. Octopus has super long range base attacks, the highest base hp in the game, aoe damage and debuffs; plus, it outplays and outmaneuvers everything in wet terrain. Flight and teleport can be added via accessories, but no other unit has terrain dominance of any kind, and they all lose out on the one terrain the octopus excels in. Since the octopus also gets knock back immunity, you can give an octopus a faerie ring and their only real weakness (land movement) vanishes. They can constantly barrage enemies on their way to other enemies, and soften up targets for the rest of your team. Their naturally high resistance to debuffs and high hp pool keep them ploughing forward towards the enemy line, like an actual tank. Zombifying the octopus just makes them an unkillable meat wall that breaks everything. Dragons and knights have nothing on the best quid boys in the game!
true i never had much need for a tank but some people want a tank to lock down a choke point is what its mostly used for since you have no way to get aggro
