Yeah, Trails' (The Legend of Heroes) Narrative is like very little other game Series. He called DQ11 a High-Fantasy Epic...Trails is a High-Fantasy Epic Series, which I've seen so Rarely in Video Games...It Rivals High-Fantasy Book Series, that's how Interrelated so many parts are & the Story+Characters just keep building. It Currently Sits at 10 Games, first Arc being Trails in the Sky (FC, SC, the 3rd) then Crossbell (Zero & Azure) & then Cold Steel (I, II, III, IV) and Hajimari no Kiseki which hasn't come out yet in the West. My favourite background narrative in DQXI is the journals of the adventurer you can read throughout the game. It talks about locations you visit and two key items important to your own journey. The big revelation in the last journal that the adventurer is Chalky floored me. 👏🏽👏🏽 The amount of let's plays I've seen where people don't even remember that the hero's grandpa's name is Chalky, saddens me.
I don't know if I'm alone on this, but I wasn't really a fan of the whole time travel aspect towards the end. All the character growth the characters went through just... wiped away from existence. Those incredible scenes between Hendrick and Jasper, gone.
Spoilers for DQ11 For all intents and purposes, the game literally ended after the Mordegon fight, Act 3 is called the post-game for a reason. You do not have to actually travel back in time. On top of that too though, there is a story reason for why you would go back: Yggdrasil. The Tree of Life exploded at the end of Act 1, this is important because the souls of the dead travel through the void to get back to Yggdrasil to be reborn. Without Yggdrasil, those souls just get lost in the void without any chance to be reborn, including Veronica. Going back in time gives the Hero a second chance to properly prevent all that suffering. You don't have to like the post-game, but the game ended by then, its literally just extra optional content beyond the credits.
@@doobles9253 that's actually not entirely accurate. It gives the hero a chance to create a timeline where that suffering doesn't occur. The old timeline is still there, the suffering and character developments still happened, and the people of that world get to continue living and picking up the pieces from there. With the hero gone that is.
@@doobles9253 I think the decision you make to go back (or put down the game and stop) is a fun one that's presented to you. You have a choice, knowing the consequences. In that way, going back really does make it a personal sacrifice on some level, as its meant to for the player character. You go through understanding that these characters whose development is mostly impacted (Serena, Hendrik) are lost, and that in some ways, they don't know their own potential because they don't go through the same hardships in a pre-calamity world. It's bittersweet and I kind of love it for that.
Go play the trails series it does this concept fantastically. Some characters, ideas, and concepts they mention in one game can take multiple games before it is resolved. It always feels so good when you finally get those resolutions it ends exactly like you said it works on me every time.
Incredible narration and amazing editing! I am so glad someone did address this tiny part of this fantastic J-RPG that I love so much. You have my like, my subscription and my total ovation. If RU-vid still had stars for ratings, this would be a 5/5 for me.
Dragon Quest has been doing this since 1986 and "re-memory" barely scratches the surface of the narrative techniques it explores imo It also doesn't span over one game, it spans the entire series and spinoff games. Everything intertwines
The best part of memory/re-memory with Dragon Quest, is that XI is just another player in the web of the same causality of it all. Much of these themes are reused from previous games, maybe with some names and designs changed. It's more something great for long time fans for playing through the series and hearing these same tropsey tales and experiences, but that's also why I adore the series.
Regarding the gold in the Elder Scrolls, I remember reading that gold pieces are actually made by official magicians of the Empire. It's thanks to some magical uniqueness that coins cannot be replicated. Don't quote me on that though, and it's clearly not explained in Skyrim, it's in a background book somewhere.
I didn't mind how long this video took, though some of the explanations felt redundant; repeating points already established, that kind of thing but still a great video none the less.

@@andy-floriplay-time7366 hard disagree? Most of them are pretty solid, even if they pull a final fantasy 7 and rip names from myth. Like, the Fire Emblem series does great - Tellius, Elibe, Archaneia, so on. All really good names. Taking a norse reference and making it a pun? Particularly one like "Snifleheim"? That's rare form.

Wonderful video. And it greatly explains to me why i never truly could play FF15 and like it. With Dragon QUest 11 I felt like he developers did a good job building the world to feel believable. The way the towns function, how you interact with the people and how they each have their own culture and way of life. But with Final Fantasy 15 i never once felt like the World itself was believable because of a few things. One the people barely felt like people because they would never react with what was happening in the story and two the way the towns were set up never made me believe that they were in a world where demons could attacks at any moment. In DQ11 the towns have great barriers, fences and guards posted to make you feel they feel they need to defend the place to let your imagination carry on. But with FF15 at most you see lights on at night and nothing else... so nothing protects these hubs or lil towns during the day where there are still monsters???

@@Oceaniz You can look them up, something like "GameFails rooster teeth" As you can probably tell, they used to be a type of video rooster teeth did that got it's own channel that was just user submitted funny moments and glitches, but they stopped uploading in 2016. 4:03 I mean technically it does affect the story cause you get better gear/stats with more coin and thus you beat Alduin quicker. Which really turns the narrative into you being OP from the start... Then again dovahkiin is meant to be OP from the get-go so... 😂

The Serpent is actually a pain on stronger enemies Draconian settings, I'd say probably the hardest boss in act 2.. Also Two time boss fight if you care to actually play the whole game but I guess most players would give up after act 2.. and Oh boy Act 3 serpent with harder enemies, even though you have a bigger party it's still pretty insane.. not the hardest fight in Act 3 by a landslide, but still within the top 5 imo (for Dragon Quest XI S) only the top 2 for regular Dragon quest with the many less battles in that version of the game
Bruh that dragon... I couldn't care less... I was grinding in Gallopolis, went to beat Gyldegard coz it was my First Fight I honestly had to grind for, then went to that dragon and was like "HoLy ShIt ItS bLaCk ShEnGlOnG" Just to later find out that we actually get splitted up in form of balls just Like the Dragonballs lmao. Wasn't enough that our MC is basically Trunks who got isekai'd
2021 is going to be a great year for series like One Piece,My Hero Academia, Black Clover,Boruto,Dragon Ball Super,Bleach,Jujutsu Kaisen,Chainsaw Man,Edens Zero,Seven Deadly Sins etc.
