As someone who enjoys Ed being on any PST show, first off welcome back Ed! But second off, please try the "talk about a game for two minutes" segment again with a host who isn't Ed. I feel his style doesn't mesh well with that segment in particular.
@@greatone6196 I don't know if we're necessarily disagreeing here. I like Ed's contributions to the show, and definitely thought he was funny this episode. I was more addressing how Billy kept saying how the segment was awful and a bad idea. I was commenting in the hopes they don't abandon the segment.
@thereelpugatlas we are in disagreement. I think it was good and not awful. I think ed was very funny in the segment and think his style is what improved the segment
Rare outward mention in the wild, i have played that game for like hundred hours. It does have the issue of not really being replayable beyond build variety.
God Ed is so based for that take on Ratchet & Clank, some time around Tools of Destruction they became SUCH a snoozefest just circlestrafing around everything for every gunfight. Some have been better (Crack in Time, Rift Apart) or worse (the remake) since then but man I would love to see that series try to be a platformer again.
It's genuinely nice hearing Billy gush about DD2 for a lot of the same reasons people gush about BG3.They're different games in most ways sure, but it's still good to know he was able to play something with a lot of secrets to discover, immense amount of detail. a ton of replay-ability, different outcomes, felt like a labor of love, and brought back that feel of playing something complete and fun like ye olden days even if he has no interest in playing BG3. I'm happy for him
I do wanna clarify at around I think 1:42:00 where SuperRad started talking about Itsuno and the making of DD: the scenario was that Itsuno around that time was actually planning on leavinh Capcom because at the time he felt like he didn't have much to offer or do at the company. The execs pulled him aside because they really wanted him to stay, and asked what he wanted. Itsuno said he wanted to make another DMC game and another Dragon's Dogma game. From there he was given one of those two choices, and initially he wanted another DMC game but iirc it was explicitly going to be sequel DmC Devil May Cry but the execs put their foot down about that. Can't recall why other than of course the general bad reception towards the game. So instead he made DMC5 as a return to form for the series. Immediately after then, he was given the chance to make Dragon's Dogma 2. At least, this was what I recalled from past interviews I use to scour towards the lead up of DMC5 and there after. Admittedly it's been a few years now but it was one of those things that jumped out to me, especially post DMC5 where he made a comment where he had the choice to develop one first over the other, and he was like "well we just finished DMC5, and I *was* promised I could do two of my dream projects, so..."
I really love the format of this sub series, it's cool to hear you guys talk about games your interested in and I'm looking forwards to hearing more about Burning Souls!
@@SnaxTheSnaxolotl-yeah I respect his decision, honestly can't imagine getting the comments he got- Nuh uh, they had to get him out of the PST recording booth using a broom
Hopefully when he wants to! He's fucking great to be on and maybe just this spinoff would be enough for him if he doesn't feel comfortable being back on the podcast regularly
Thank you for clearing the air about DD2. DD was my favorite PS3 game, and the discourse that exploded around this sequal has been so frustrating. People are literally sleeping on such a unique game.
Seeing people defend big companies taking them for suckers has been so frustrating. Companies are literally sleeping on selling us games without a side-order of bullsh!t.
My favorite part of this? The interview. I will check this game out and im now mad i chose otakon over Magfest this year. Thanks for making me regeet my decisions
You guys are one of the few that aren't being disingenuous about the MTX. Even if you tell people all of that stuff is easily obtainable in-game, they just say it's really grindy to get them in-game to goad you into buying them with real money, they say it's shoved in your face, etc. It's obvious most of these people never even played the game.
2 minutes in, and it's like he never left. Also, I'm totally game for "The Sell" being a thing. Signal-boosting games you guys like is good for everyone involved. ...can we just get a list of addresses for Warner Bros execs already? There are very important packages that they need to receive, regardless of whatever false laws allegedly protect them. In the meantime, we gotta back up every Warner Bros game to prevent history from being lost, doing it with a yo-ho-ho and a bottle of go-fuck-yourself. On a lighter note, Maguma's dev story is fucking wild, and also inspiring.
I thought the biggest issue people had regarding Batman (and killing him) in Suicide Squad was that it was marketed as a continuation of the Arkham games, which made it a bit of a wet fart to tack onto a series that ended a decade ago.
33:31 I think the reason behind this is that execs don't look at what's been most profitable for their company, they look at what's been most profitable on the market. As of 2023, live service games are still the biggest money-makers in the industry. Fortnite still averages hundreds of millions of players every month. The prospect of making a game even half as successfull as that trumps the costs that are spent on developping new live service games. Especially in the case of publishers who already own really well-known IPs, like DC Comics. From a business perspective, it's just a matter of mashing a money-printing business model with recognizable brands until you get your very own Fortnite.
The only dd2 dlc worth considering is the classic combat music, power guitar and choir are essential parts of dragons dogma imo and i wont play without them
This might be a dumb question, but that's not available in-game right? I want to buy it but don't want to regret it and see it pop up later in the game for some RC lol
I'm so glad you guys said what you did about the MTX, it's been frustrating seeing everyone absolutely slate this game because of something stupid that doesn't actually impact gameplay. Dragon's Dogma is the GOAT. THE GOAT.
To be fair, pushing back against MTX is still a noble cause, and will never be a "lost battle". The battle will only be lost when sentient life has vanished from existence. On its own merits, DD2 is a good game, but the toxic presence of MTX drags it down SO much further than if it was merely mid.
@@GmodPlusWoWIf you are making big fuss about mtx with misinformation, it makes people who complain about mtx look less like people arguing for noble cause, and more like entitled little pr!cks. It is important for people to complain with accurate info, and it is also important for outrage to match the offense. DD2 has way too mild of dlcs to be outraged to this level. There's way too many games with bigger offense to get this outraged over DD2.
Yeah DD2 is easily going to top my GOTY list, I'm sixty hours deep and only halfway done with exploring Battahl. Every class feels super unique and while there's still very very very hard counters, every problem can be solved with a little forethought as to which pawns to summon (don't forget your archers, kids). I have two complaints and only these two, for one there isn't a menu option in the Storage to access your Equipment like there was in DD:DA, this made swapping to a new vocation and re-equipping yourself totally hassle free, now you usually have to parade around stark naked for a bit as you walk back from the vocation guild to your house or innkeep, take every viable piece of armor out, and play dressup. Secondly, Mage/Sorcerer doesn't have Brontide anymore and that spell was the dopest shit imaginable. Fuck summoning meteors I want a rad lightning whip.
Bal-a-tro. Also fuck Edward for not even trying it. Also I would like to say as some one who didn't play hell divers is that the dlc in dragon dogma being pointless is also a problem of people being exploited or small kids (we all know kids play all videogames) thinking it will benefit them and prey on their lack of knowledge of the game. I would say in some way it does effect the gameplay. I understand defending the game, but saying it's not a problem is dishonest. Just because it's not a problem in one direction doesn't mean it effects it in the other. Every action here having a equal and opposite reaction. It is there because it is pointless and it will exploit people, but because it is pointless people will overlook it. Money is real and being lost and wasted in unnecessary dlc.
My problem is that there's at least a dozen games that do it a thousand times worse. The DD2 MTX were clearly stapled on by some money man in upper management and people are acting like the game is a cynical cash grab. It doesn't help that that the controversy is one part justified and one part entitlement. Before the game dropped performance was already being treated as an issue. Because the game runs at an uncapped frame rate that targeted 30fps. And that was already being lambasted because 30 is so low. Even though it's uncapped. Then the game dropped and (on PC at least) it runs like ass. And that's justified. Or people complaining about having one save slot and only having one character. even though the game was clearly built around it. The lack of a new game button is stupid though.
"The game was clearly built around it" yeah, I call bull. You can buy the ability to bypass that stuff through DLC. It stinks of taking something that was originally a part of the game but which they decided to lop off and turn into a DLC so they can charge you more if you want the complete experience.
@@Eduard_Moraru bypass more saves? What? Do you even know what the MTX are for? Also as someone who's actually been playing the game no, nothing was skimmed off to sell to you. I have so many wakestones that I'm running out of storage for them.
You need to cool your jets, bud. Like, throwing this toxicity because someone is unenthused about a rogue-like card game is unnecessary and unhelpful. They also didn't go as far to say it isn't a problem, it was just a tired one since these kinds of Microtransactions have been Capcom's MO for years. I get that the situation is frustrating, but if your intent is to make them change their opinion, this approach will never work no matter how right you are.
Dragon's Dogma 2's monetization sucks and it breaks my heart to see all of PST blowing it and going "it's not that bad". It is. If the DLC "doesn't change that much" then why make it something you need to pay for at all, on top of the $60 you spent if you bought it at launch too? People defending predatory BS like this is precisely how the industry got so messed up in the first place. If more people had drawn the line at paid horse armor we wouldn't be here, but they didn't, and if PST is any indication, they won't draw the line here either. What a shame.
Where did we defend the useless microtransactions? All we did was clear up lies we've seen online and talk about how all of the MTX except one are literally useless to your enjoyment of the game and completely stupid.
Maybe it wasn't such a small thing that people with review copies shouldn't have glossed over. Weird how the average person left in the dark just assumes things without being told specifically that certain features aren't locked behind money or that features they don't like don't need to be seen at all. At least game reviewers and outlets didn't have to risk their ability to get review copies from CAPCOM in the future. also, all mtx/battlepass/fomo content is gay, don't get me wrong, I have some anecdotal opinions and whatabouts of my own. I learned my lesson with World about how rocky a launch can be, specifically from optimizing on PC, and I can see this game being ready to play within just a few months. The problems about the mtx will be swept under the rug in not too long and it'll just be an ugly boil on the front page for whales, and nobody will have anything left to really kick up a fuss over.
People not kicking up a fuss over this sort of thing is how the industry got so messed up in the first place. You should encourage people to get mad and boycott any microtransactions this predatory, because when people don't, it gives the whole industry the go-ahead to implement even more predatory practices. You don't have to wait until a problem becomes too big to ignore. You shouldn't. You should put greedy companies in their place so those problems don't become too big in the first place.
Eh, the bad writing was super cringe, but the pissing on the flash but being all "Yes muh queen" over wonder woman was very biased. Why not piss on wonder woman, or have boomerang be misogynistic? Maybe a crack about if her breasts are natural... that would fit his character. That's where the major issue was treat wonder woman different then the male heros.
They did that because Boomerang is one of Flash's rivals. They have beef with each other, so Boomerang would absolutely rub it in if he won. Also I imagine they were treating Wonder Woman differently because she was an ally. The other heroes were trying to kill them. The game was bad because of poor writing, forced live service, and the mean-spirited tone towards fans of the Justice League. But this whole men vs women take ain't it, chief.
@@PleaseStopTalkingPodcast And you explain not covering it in your review. I guess it's possible every other outlet and RU-vidr who reviewed it then griped about the late addition is stirring drama but. Given the industry trend towards doing this that seems unlikely.
