I'm incredibly late on this but the jist with Once Upon a Time is that it started life as a screen adaptation of Fables, the same comic book series which Telltale adapted with Wolf Among Us. NBC made a pilot for Fables, then scrapped it and made GRIMM. ABC bought the rights to fables from NBC, made a pilot, then scrapped it and made Once Upon a Time instead. Fables has this recurring problem where the concept is compelling but all the key players are public domain so studios regularly decide to just throw out the source material and do their own thing instead. At least a Wolf Among Us sequel is supposed to be coming soon.
