I was 15 when this song was a hit & have always loved this song - but at the time never fully appreciated the lyrics about how good it was being young. Now, at 46 😟, you look back & think - yep those days were so great. At the time you just thought things would remain the same, but with age you realise they don't. Particularly the massive amount of great music in the 1980-1990 time period.
What a song from the Mighty Dragon Marc Hunter sings the living daylights out of it. Great harmonies and great melodies and that's what's lacking in todays music. These guys should have been huge world wide. April Sun In Cuba, Rain, Young Years, Speak No Evil, Dreams Of Ordinary Men, This Time, Old Enough.. I mean you can put those songs against any huge band in the world. Just an incredible band
This song reminds me of growing up in Taumarunui, Swimming in the Taringamotu River, Attending the High School, and seeing Todd and Marc at their old home on Hospital Hill. R.I.P Marc. Your Hometown is Proud of you both..
Love this song so much. I cry when I watch Marc Hunter as he was a huge loss to the Australian music industry. I met him in the 70's in Kings Cross. I was with my big sister and we went into a coffee shop and sat down in a booth. Marc walked in with a friend and asked to sit with us. I said YES please. My sister had NO idea who he was !!! It is a memory I will treasure as my beautiful sister committed suicide December 27th 2019 and I miss her so much. I love you Jackie xxx and Marc xxx
Yes, he’s a big loss…I personally miss for the guy he was…a big Teddy bear of a guy that many people underestimated…you had to understand Marc to appreciate his true worth
My cousin Greg looked a spitting image of Marc hunter before he passed away, miss you cousin Greg and rest in peace Marc hunter and my dearly missed cousin, heaven got 2 extraordinary souls, amen 🙏😪😪😪❤️🌹
We Aussies always claim the best things from NZ as our own - Dragon, Shihad, Phar Lap, Russel Crow, Sam Neil. These guys were giants in the late 70's early 80's, I have this album on Vinal. Classic Album
All 3 hunter brothers had amazing voices, the younger brother never joined the band but was in the crew, sadly passed away while on tour with Matchbox20. I played many supports for Dragon in the 80's, back stage the band would warm up Acapella style their harmonies always blew me away. RIP Marc, RIP Ross, The one brother, Todd, is one of the many great songwriters that NZ has produced. Surprised no-one has covered any Dragon songs, I'm sure there's many a hit waiting in this collection.
Would love to hear more me and mt sister who is now. Not wuth us used to see the band in 1994 5 have seen them just this year at jindaleevin feb with new mark. He is great and cried at the old songsxx

I'm listening to song and thinking about my 56th birthday coming up, I've tears in my eyes. My young years especially High School in the early eighties were the best years of my life. I was young and indestructible. This song is poignant and memorable for me. ❤️❤️❤️❤️
I never got into Dragon but this song gives me chills down my spine. The vocals are so passionate and now at 38 years old, childless, single, alone and with my dreams of being a rock star failed and behind me despite myself; this song really strikes a chord with me (no pun intended) and brings back memories of the gigs, the tours, the epic nights on stage with my best friends and the electricity between us and the audience. In these memories failed dreams are never wasted.
Loved Dragon Marc Hunter left behind a beautiful daughter and I do hope you all know that is his brother beside him always grew up with this music awesome!

Marc, you Rock babe. This song just wouldn't be the same sung by anyone else. You impart not only your unique voice but your trademark spunk & cheeky attitude
Snappy snappy dresser (styled by his wife Wendy Heather the fashion designer) and a brilliant showman and singer :) RIP Marc you were a legend, we still miss you

Broken cars Old guitars Waitin' here for the time to pass Time takes it's toll Took it fast Secret meetings At the river's bend Simple days When I called you friend Came a time We went separate ways Those were our young years Our wings were flying in the sun Now the winter at our windows Feels so cold Where are our young years Everything's seen some better days Hopes in which we sailed away Lie all rusted on rocky ground Here we sit with a schooner of ale Dreaming of a wind that would make us sail Taking us far away Do you remember how it was We had the moon and tide behind us We used to take it in our stride Those were our young years Our wings were flying in the sun Now the winter at our windows Feels so cold Back in our young years Sometimes the good would not die young Now we live on memories alone Of our young years If we had the moon and tide behind us We could still sail so far away And time would pass and things would change Our memories won't fade away Those were our young years Our wings were flying in the sun Now the winter at our windows Feels so cold Back in our young years Sometimes the good would not die young Now we live on memories alone Those were our young years You know we'll live it all again We could turn the tide And sail it all away back to our young years Those were our young years.
