Vegeta then starts to tell Kakarot to F* off, immediately realizes how that with be taken in context and instead mutters incoherent expletives under his breath in frustration while Goku just smiles.
And he doesn't fit in the machine, so he'd have to go back 3 years, grow from a larva again, redo the conversation, THEN go back 20 years and grow from a larva for 3 years AGAIN to search for the androids. He's a handsome bug man of focus, commitment, and sheer will.
Dr Wily blasting 17 in the face with every shot is incredible. Dude is in the worst position for aiming a handgun reliably and he nails him every time.
Honestly, i really love the delivery on Wombat's last line. The "im coming home, brother!" Sounds simultaneously full of rage, remorse, and acceptance. Everyone in this series did such an amazing job on the voice acting.
Would have been a better cop out for the “super dragon balls” which is as dumb as anything dbs ever did. Also never really could figure out with Mai being future trunks age in his timeline. No dragonballs, no wish that ended up deaging her.
@davidabramyk2999 I never watched DB Super, but from what I've gathered, the entire Goku Black arc undermines everything Trunks ever did and retroactively ruined his character.
@@davidabramyk2999actually it got shown that pilaf made the same wish on the balls in the future timeline that he did in the main one, and its actually what fucked over the z-fighters because he made the wish before bulma and gohan could gather the balls.
The Jeff Goldblum joke was also used in Sword Art Online Abridged when Kirito was challenged by Kuradeel, and Kirito says "Why don't you take your boby ass back through that teleporter before I make your face look any worse, I mean you already look like Jeff Goldblum" And Kuradeel says, " That last one doesn't seem like an insult" Kirito says " In the Fly" And then Kuradeel goes "FUCK YOU AND DUEL ME!!!!"
4:23 I loved this edit. One thing I like about Abridged Vegeta is that, if someone makes a good insult, he doesn't get mad. He respects it. When Nail was insulting him on Namek, he went "Oh, I gotta admit, you are the best challenge I've gotten out of your people yet." When Cell talked out of his ass and said "To be fair, you are a part of my DNA." Vegeta just smiled and went "OOH! That's the closest thing you've done to damage since I got here." Then when Trunks tried to stop Cell from eating 18, Vegeta went "Don't make me come up there and be a parent!" and when Trunks went "First time for everything!" Vegeta went "OHO!!!" Canon Vegeta would have gotten pissed, but Abridged Vegeta loved it. This scene of them flipping each other off made so much sense.
Also: Vegeta: "Hello earthling! How's that gaping chest wound?!" Yamcha: "Just fine! *How's your spine?"* Vegeta: 🤨 "I'm giving you a 5-minute head start." Yamcha: "Thank you! I'm going to need it! You're very fast!"
And if there is someone he wants give him a great insult and stand their ground doing it, it's his child. Like he was proud in the original series too when Trunks blasted him in the semi-perfect Cell saga. But abridged Vegeta in the same scene? If he wasn't super pissed off from it, I bet he would actually teared up in joy and pride for finding out that Trunks had it in him. So of course he would see it as bonding moment that Trunks flipped him back.
To this day I think my favorite Trunks line read is from this episode: “Is that why you used to call me your little peanut butter cup?” The just betrayed horror in his voice is amazing.
I always was under the impression that 17 called 18 a “hobot” and that she had no other way of releasing her anger than killing anyone but him because even in their darkest timeline they still had each other’s backs
Considering this Cell tried to correct an innuendo while other Cell is constantly doing them I like to imagine this change is from other Cell being bombarded by TJ and the Wombat's radio signal for 4 years.
That "wait-" really gets me. Immediately you can tell how things could've went for this variant of Android 18. She was the same person under different experiences - who could've been better.
My head canon is that in trunks’ timeline, Dr. Gero actually finished making them and so the “ Kill Son Goku.mp3 “ audio file kept playing on repeat driving them insane. In our timeline, Gero panic rushed them so the audio file was only working properly on 16. So the cyborgs were corrupted but the Androids weren’t.
Yeah. As someone who knew basically nothing about what went on behind the scenes at TFS before watching this series, I was really thrown off when he started showing up because his energy is so...unique. I'm not gonna say something cliche like "in actuality, he's the heart of the series!" because that'd be disrespectful to Lani, Kaiser and everyone else who had a hand in the show; they're all so important to DBZA. But that itself is the greatest praise I can offer to Taka as a writer and as a voice actor, because watching him in these commentaries made me realize just how much of his personality is reflected in the show, just as it is with Lani and Kaiser and that DBZA wouldn't have been nearly as wonderful as it without his participation. The show is just as much Taka's soul as it is everyone else's. And honestly, I respect the hell out of these three for that. These three are literally the coolest nerds I've ever seen.
Considering you guys established that Imperfect Cell could hear the voices of people he drinks like Piccolo and Nail, and that you said here that he most likely drank some people in the future for Trunks to know he was active. That line where he asks the kids what he should do could be REALLY dark if you wanted it to be!
When Taka started joining these commentaries, it was a lot to get used to. But now I can't really picture these without him and I love the diversity of personality he brings.
As a fan of Sailor Moon Abridged from way back when it A) Existed B) Had only three episodes I have to agree - Megami is a treasure, and I'm *so glad* she was a part of your team.
according to the DBZA shorts.... he had xDD "dont shout at him: YOU ARE WEAK, YOU WILL NEVER BE KING! Trust me it will give him a complex" ~ nappa xDDD
Remember, guys, this isn’t the end of these commentaries! They’ve still got the last three Kai episodes (2.9, 3 & 3.5), the Cell Vs. shorts, and Plan to Eradicate Christmas. So we should have at least three more videos coming, maybe more if they also decided to do commentaries on the DragonShortZ (although I can understand if they didn’t do those, since that series may not be finished yet). And I also really hope that they do a bonus commentary for the Buu Bits at some point too, because that whole thing was awesome and I’d love to hear their thoughts on that too!
Plan To Eradicate Christmas is my fav DBZA Movie so I will be stoked as heck for that. I hope they do Buu Bits Commentary too, we are blessed by Totally Not Mark for making those happen.
@@michaeldaniels642I've heard they're interested in continuing DragonShortZ, but there are currently no plans since they're still busy with HFIL and don't have the time, budget, or people to work on both at once. Maybe it'll continue after HFIL is over since they said they do have an ending planned for it, but nothing is set in stone
That angers me sometimes, when villains do horrible things and innocents beg for mercy and they don't give it, but when they do the same thing it like "No!" If they didn't give any then they don't get one cent Back
@@FirstLast-wk3kc there is a limit, the androids here are basically monsters, there was no other way but to kill them, they’d keep doing it or cell would get them.
That “he’s not dead, I just got divorced” line reminds me of a similar line from National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation, where Clark says “God bless her soul” and clarifies that he’s divorced. Never expected it to have a real life actual parallel.
Also, on the topic of Jiren, I like him a lot more in the Manga, because he's so much more focused on protecting people and he cares so much more about innocents. When they go to recruit him for the Tournament of Power, not only is he actually rescuing people from essentially a giant monster, but he refuses initially because "If every Pride Trooper goes with you, and something happens here while you're gone? We're fucked. I need to stay here just in case." And he only agrees to join once he finds out the stakes with the universe being erased. But even then he pushes back a bit. But it reinforces his initial *hatred* of Goku for, in his view, causing the whole thing. And he refuses to fight until it comes to Goku and his entourage because he doesn't want to be the reason innocent people are killed/erased. Like, they actually make him a lot cooler of a character.
I'm just here to say that I think Taka made the commentaries better. I mean, I liked them before as well, don't get me wrong, but he just brought so much laughter and atmosphere with him to these. He's a really great guy! ❤
Responsible necromancy is all about consent. There are plenty of spirits who are perfectly willing to pilot your skeleton minions, you just have to establish a dialogue and find them. Nearly all backlashes and other disasters that typically occur in necromancy can be traced back to an unwilling spirit.
@@Lanipator I am such a huge fan of your guy's work. Dbza I'd what got me into Dragonball, so much so I went back and watched through the entire original series, and the reactions you did helped me start working towards creative writing! TYSM for all the work you and your team have done!
I completely forgot about the "Is that why you always called me your little peanut butter cup?"" joke, but that's hilarious! The delivery for the line is perfect! xD
Honestly, I love this episode so much. Because after EVERYTHING, including dying, Trunks can finally just vent and dish out the payback for his entire journey in the first place. Anticlimactic? Maybe. Cathartic? ABSOLUTELY.
I think what makes it the most anticlimatic is the ending with Cell, which although makes more sense and Cell did do things with Trunks, his real beef was with the Androids, so him killing them is much more cathartic and feels more of an ending of his story, and him ending Cell feels more like an afterthought (afterall, he never even met THIS Cell before). Off course he had to end him to avoid him coming back to another timeline, it doesn't feel as good as him ending 17 and 18
@@seilamano3974 but why did trunks have to wait for cell to show up, why didn’t he just attack the lab? Maybe see if 16 was there to get bulma to reset
Honestly, I think the Buu Bits are the best way they could have done season 4 in hindsight. I was really sad when they announced there would be no Buu arc, but tbh that arc is kinda a mess so doing it as a series of shorts is definitely the best way they could have done it. It's a fitting treatment.
@@battlesheep2552 I bet it'll just be nappa. Remember he's back from the dead because when they wished back everyone killed by freeza and his men, Vegeta had been working for Freeza at the time he killed nappa in abridged cannon and is working in hollywood? I'll bet he'll be shooting a movie scene.
Wanted to wait til the proper ending of the series to say it, but thank you guys so much for all the love, laughs, and effort you put into this series over the years. Definitely a highlight of my college years and beyond (33 now), and between the improvement in the writing since Season 1, the voice acting improvements, and the editing work Scott immersed himself in to give us such a quality product, this series has been so influential to me and my own sense of humor, as well as an inspiration for my own editing I've been doing. These commentaries have been such fun, and I genuinely felt the passion and love you all have for this stuff in Part 3's commentary--damn well making me tear up too with that rendition of "Our Way" (and from how much Chris Ayres meant to you all). I'm looking forward to the Kai commentaries and commentaries on the Dragon ShortZ and eventually HFIL and the Buu Bits. That all said, my one disappointment is that Masako couldn't make it for this finale too, it would've been awesome seeing you all there, but this has been fantastic throughout. Thanks, guys. 🧡
So the message that Kaiser was trying to say at the end is 'Even if you mess up, don't let a giant green bug monster use your time machine.' Thank you for the commentaries, Taka!
Thank so much for this commentary track. I’ve seen DBZA like 3-4 times in its entirety, but it was such a nice thing to join you revisiting this series. Best of luck!
To be fair, it seems that the current trend with transgender individuals is to try and retroactively pretend it was always the case... even when it makes no sense, because no one, not even the person themselves, had any idea about him/her being Trans at the time. It really annoys me when I'm seeing someone talk about an older movie or TV show and they start calling an actor(or the character they played, which is just wrong) by obviously wrong pronouns because they transitioned like 10 years later. It's just not accurate to what happened in the past.
I started watching these commentaries pretty much when they started doing them a year ago because I love behind the scenes stuff and I wanted to know how you guys did it. I got into Dragon Ball Z Abridged pretty late in the show's life around when Imperfect Cell was introduced and I laughed at the funny moments I cried at the best moments. You guys at Team Four Star are the bombs! What you have done is amazing and whatever you guys will do in the future will be just as amazing. Thank you, Lanny. Thank you, MasakoX. Thank you, Kaiser. Thank you, Taka. And Thank you Team Four Star!
Nick, Scott, Curtis, as a fan of nearly 15 years and from the bottom of my heart; Thank you for everything, Happy Holidays, and much love to the whole team. You’re incredible and it’s been an honor.
Watching this series has been a wild ride of nostalgia, laughs, and (especially the previous episode) tears. Thanks for letting me relive the awe and good times by doing this series, like I could just rewatch the show, but this hits different. Thanks TFS, thanks for everything and I cannot wait to see more of what you do.
Taka's theory about how long Trunks was gone in his timeline actually makes perfect sense with how the time machine ends up working in Super. The same amount of time passed for him between this and Goku Black as between Cell and Universe 6 in the main timeline, which is why the time machine sent him back to that specific point in Super even though it's a different timeline.
After listening to them giving Megamii33 praise around the 17:00 mark. I am so glad I get to work with such an amazing voice actress and video editor. The amount of effort she puts into every detail is very inspiring.

I can't believe it's really over now... We got to experience all of DBZA again with the TFS crew and I'm even more sad than I was when I experienced the show's ending the first time. Thanks for everything TFS, you're all the goat
It's been incredible going on this ride once again, and with you all! Thank you for all of this, and I look forward to more from you! It's been amazing to see what probably started as a process of "Yeah that would be funny" come all the way around to arguably having a stronger feel for the characters than the original material in a lot of ways (granted with 20-30 years' hindsight.)
When I finished watching the series back in the day, I had this felling of "I want more". Now, finishing this commentary, I feel the same but in another way. I want more of this guys, more of them creating, writing new stories, playing new characters. I really hope they find the opportunity (and money, obviously) to do original productions
@@colmecolwaghellsing was awesome in that it was only one episode a year. And during each year everyone just improved their skills and got better. So the quality of each episode just keeps improving with each one
The old man is singing if you’re reading this by Tim McGraw. Such a good song. It’s specifically about a soldier dying in battle and telling his family not to worry cuz he’ll be in heaven.
This show has been my comfort show for such a long time, so going through the commentary videos with you guys has been awesome! Thank you guys for all the hard work you all put in DBZA, it's become my headcanon for the events of Dragon Ball Z at this point lmao
There is a real phenomenon where separated family tends to experience intense attraction when reunited because it’s the growing up together that inhibits it. Future Bulma would no doubt know about it so her reaction makes a lot of real world sense.
It would be an even more anticlimactic finale, and probably was ready after the android's scorched earth deal, so, even if he knew, Cell was probably already completed
@@angelodavidmarabolivarela9505 No, Trunks killed Cell shortly after he was ready to walk. Are you implying that Trunks let Cell kill people for over 3 years?
It's actually been really emotional watching these comentarys coming to an end for DBZA, its been so much fun watching the behind the scenes and hearing what was involved and seeing how you guys have all developed over the years 🥰.
Also to remember, because Gero made them stronger, he didnt have time to overwrite their personalities and make them as evil as they were in Trunks' timeline
Not gonna lie, seeing you guys talking more about your process throughout all of these has really been cool. I makes me appreciate the show a lot more and makes it a lot more emotional to watch how much work you guys put into it, I can't thank you all enough for making my childhood (well not really child but like teenager-hood) that much better, from the bottom of my heart, thank you.
...I don't like how I keep forgetting that this episode exists. The 60 three-parter was just so emotionally fulfilling that this completely slips outta my brain, even though I really enjoyed it. Gods I love everything about the TFS cut.
May 7th 2013 My friend group was crying of laughter over this dumb abriged thing our friend sent us. Fast forward 10 years and the love and joy for you three and everyone who has been apart of the dbza journey. If you think for a second that you have a "small audience" or demographic. I have friends in the states, mexico and multiple commonwealth countries who love and support you guys. It kills me seeing you guys.... get allergic because I get allergic. But it's in such good heart and love. Coming from someone who didn't have many friends growing up, a supportive emotional outlet. I raised myself infront of my tv and computer, but you guys made so many nights enjoyable. Minecraft, The walking dead and Dbza was such a consistant thing and I will always be grateful for everything you guys have and will do. I'm expecting a baby and I know my gf will agree when the time comes and after they've watched the original. Our family is going to have dbza family night so your care and love for this project can carry on to the next generation, as it deserves to be
I want to mention: Thank you guys for not ending it at 60. I LOVE all of the extra DBZA stuff, and I really hope you guys plan to continue all the way into HFIL.
taka, you were a part of what made this series great, dont shit on yourself so hard. im so glad you guys made this entire series. i still think you could do amazing things if you did the full buu, but not wanting to deal with youtubes auto moderation nonsense is also damn fair. as well of course as wanting to do a different, you ended on a high note, with a love letter to those of us whove been around since the beginning of the series. so many call backs and full circles made me smile the first time, and every time i re watch the series. yall doing the background deep dive made me appreciate the kaiser's editing so much, you did such and incredible job ive never caught a third of what you pulled in the background quietly, and your visual gags have always been a hit with me. it was amazing seeing how far youve grown, and having lani revisit yu yu hakusho is pretty damn special too. times change, and im glad to have been, and continue to be, on the journey with you all going forward. personally i fucking adored renegade for life, btw. the ff7 abridged never hit me right tho.
I wanted to leave a big thank you on this last episode but there is just so much to say. DBZA is the show I have watched and rewatched more than any series, online or not. It helped me bond with the man who was my best friend and became the love of my life. I bought then sat down and watched all of DBZ, filler and everything, just because I wanted to better understand the abridged. When I write, this is what I compare myself to. Watching this commentary series with you guys and hearing your opinions as I got to once again watch how you grew as creators has been a wonderful experience. From the bottom of my heart I thank you and everyone who contributed to DBZA for all the joy you have brought me. I love you guys as much as a healthy parasocial internet relationship will allow.
