With Kai's Buu Saga now completely dubbed, one line in particular rivals, if not beats this one: Goku: Oh, and Babidi. When you get to Hell, which believe me is gonna be a lot sooner than you think... _King Yemma will make you suffer. _*_Goodbye._*
I wouldn't blame him. He witnessed the genocide of the nameks and watched as frieza damned their planet to destruction and nearly killed piccilo his friend and killed krillen his oldest friend and finally he tried to kill gohan, his son; all without the slightest remorse. Frieza forced goku to be that cold.
That line..."You Fool..." Summed up Goku's rage and his regret... He wanted Frieza to just change his ways...Learn from his mistakes. Goku _always_ tries to spare his opponents. Piccolo, Vegeta, Raditz, the Ginyu Force...But Frieza was the first he intended to kill out of anger. Very good character defining moment.
The Weavile he let go of the tail and he saw killing them as the only way to win and save his family when he got the upper hand he did want to spare frieza though
+RudraStrife I don't mind the dialog, but I just wish they'd made Frieza sound more manly. I mean, he almost sounds like he did in the Ocean dub. I can understand not using Linda Young for Kai, but I think they could've picked a different actor; in my humble opinion, Chris Airs wasn't the right choice for that role. That's just my own opinion, though, I'm sure there are those out there who feel the opposite, and that's ok too. I just figured I'd say my $0.02.
The way Goku says “You Fool!” at 1:19 is such a great moment. Goku is usually a happy, cheery, positive guy, with one of his most defining character traits being how forgiving he is of others. However, this is one of the few moments in the entire Dragon Ball franchise where Goku, for just a few brief seconds, completely forgets his typical cheerful, overly forgiving personality and gives in to the cold, bloodthirsty, unforgiving nature of his Saiyan heritage that always dwells within him, and ruthlessly attacks Frieza without hesitation. It’s a scene that is one of my favorite underrated Dragon Ball moments, and will always send chills down my body whenever I watch it.
Plus Frieza had plenty of chances. To change- He didn’t care he wanted to kill the monkey, presumably out of Tenacity. It ended with him in pieces. To just get the heck out of there- Frieza let Goku leave presumably out of humility. BUT NOPE, he wanted to stab the monkey in the back, AFTER ASKING FOR ENERGY. It wasn’t even tenacity. It was TREACHERY. But the fact that he knew he had his rear handed to him but still threw an attack truly made him a fool.
@@supermarroman9120 Yep. You're absolutely right. Frieza truly is a fool. A very prideful and stubborn fool and boy is he a sore loser. Goku gave him multiple opportunities to just accept defeat and escape Namek. Not only did he not take them, but he literally tried to stab Goku in the back for his mercy. TWICE! And ironically, he became what he thought the Saiyans could've become, a bloodthirsty animal who doesn't know when to give up. But of course, like all good villains who have all their evil atrocious deeds catch up with them, Frieza ends up paying the ultimate price for it. Sure, he technically didn't die at Goku's hands(at least not the first time he was killed), but this certainly was the death of Frieza at his prime. Both Frieza and his empire will NEVER be the same again.
In my eyes, this killed Frieza. The most feared tyrant was forced to use all his transformations, and possibly for the first time ever, had to power up to 100%, yet was still running for his money. This tyrant met his match in the one thing he hated most, a Saiyan, he created what he feared the most, a Super Saiyan. His army was destroyed, his pride was shattered, and when he was given a chance to live, he gave into his anger for one final attack. This was the true end of Frieza.
Imagine his mind. You know what, he basically went insane mid-fight. Even if Frieza won, he would never forget the potential of other people in this universe. A giant mental scar for sure.
@@ValentinoMarino11 If he survived, I think the cherry on that cake is that the super saiyan that forever scarred him and destroyed his pride, and his absolutely uncontested power was created by him. Not even because they faced off on Namek, but because Frieza didn't act sooner. Just think, if Frieza destroyed Planet Vegeta before Goku was sent away. Radditz would've never gone to earth to look for Goku, Vegeta, and in turn Frieza would've never learned about the Dragon Balls. And if he did eventually learn about Namek, Frieza would've simply blown up the planet once Guru died, or if none of the namekians cooperated, but with his army and his status intact. Even if he didn't achieve immortality, Frieza is most likely going to live another 4 or 500 years, and with absolutely no one to challenge him. He would simply remain emperor of the universe.
@@nl.515 The irony of it was that it was Bardock's son and it took one blast to finish off Frieza. This whole battle is one big role reversal to Planet Vegeta's final moments. Bardock failed to save himself, the saiyans and couldn't stop Frieza. Goku, on the other hand, actually managed to not only outsmart and beat Frieza but also managed to save himself, his friends and the inhabitants of Namek.
Not as much end as most humiliating and rightfully deserved defeat. And sometimes defeat can actually be worse than death, since you would then have to spend the rest of your life remembering it, and in this case, frieze’s defeat was all his own fault, which makes it all worse. He had plenty of chances to win, but he never took them because of his huge and fragile ego.
kkkbro it emphasizes how delusional freeza is at this moment, so yes, way better dialogue. He isn’t in line with reality and the dialogue supports that perfectly
@@Random1567 Would now be a bad time to mention that I grabbed his legs as a packed lunch for the trip to Yardrat for some training.............. err I mean for my trip back to earth but I crash landed on a random planet with no ulterior motive to spend a year away from Chi Chi so she can cool of a bit about me almost letting Gohan get killed on an alien world fighting a genocidal tyrant.
"To die....In disgrace! AT THE HAND OF YOUR MASTER!!!!" Y'all can say what y'all want about Frieza, but that last speech gave me chills. He's a badass no doubt. Put some RESPEK in his name! :D
jaggerjackize NOW LEARN LEARN WHAT HAPPENS IF YOU MESS WITH THE MOST POWERFULL BEING IN THE UNIVERSE is what frieza said in the original dub i like that one more
"Perhaps this is my second... and last chance... Maybe... I should... turn over a new leaf... Maybe... I was wrong... .........NAAAAAAAAAAAAAH!!!" "Aww, dang it, Freezer! Now I gotta give you more!"
The problem with Faulconer's music is that it was made to go with Z's filler. Since Kai has considerably less filler, it's harder to get BF's music to line up correctly. However, when it's done right (like here), it really is the perfect combination. In other words, this scene is gold (so is Goku's first SSJ transformation in Kai uncut but with BF's music).
THERAZORKILLE, agreed. Had there been WAAAAAY less filler, and had the music just shut the fuck up for a minute or two, I may have actually liked the Bruce Faulkoner Z WAAAY better than I do now. Maybe almost as much as I love Kai!
@@ssjbroly8735 I love nearly everything about Kai, but everyone has their right to an opinion, so I respect your opinion, whether a bad or good opinion of the show I love.
"I am Lord Frieza... None surpass me. No one even comes close! Etch this into your skull! I am emperor of the universe! The likes of you are only fit to grovel at my feet! ...Or better still... To die a disgrace at the hands of your master!!!"
I'm glad they kept "You fool!" intact. A lot of dialogue got changed in Kai, and a lot of what was changed was iconic. Warms my heart to hear Schemmel say those two words as he lays down the justice.
You can see Goku's hand shake after that final blast. He really didn't want to kill anybody not even someone as evil as Frieza. Nice little touch to his character.
By this point, Goku already has a body count in the hundreds lol. He's just disappointed that Frieza, and his talent, couldn't be redeemed. Tien, Piccolo, Vegeta, his biggest and most fearsome enemies have become good friends with him but Frieza was the first time he hit an ethical wall. A person so disgustingly rotten to the core there was no hope of salvaging anything from him as an individual. It's that sad realization in the midst of his shock and rage that twists itself into an uneasy sorrow.
Seriously, the music is just perfect here. It shows that the one legendary super saiyan that was strongest in the universe, the one that scared Frieza to actually come true. When frieza "dies" it shows for the felt time he felt true fear, as the super saiyan of legend took place as the strongest in the universe. Godamn amazing scene here.
@@rafelmeza7021 | No, he said, "You fool!" Just... not that much emphasis to it. But here... *ORIGINAL Z DUB:* Huh? Oh... you fool! Haaah! _(fires Angry Kamehameha)_ *KAI DUB:* _(gasp!)_ Grrrr...! *YOU **_FOOL!!!!!_* _(fires Angry Kamehameha)_ Kai gives me goosebumps.
+iDinDoNuffin I liked Cell's voice much better than the Kai dub. I know it's still the same voice actor but it's not as good to me as the original Funimation dub in all three of Cell's forms. For instance, Imperfect Cell in the original Funimation dub had those demonic undertones to certain lines like when he introduces himself to Piccolo and then when he blows a hole through Piccolo's side when he says, "Goodbye." Stuff like that was subtle but that along with the overall emotional tone conveyed in all forms seemed to be a more convincing performance. Kai is better overall with dialogue up through the Frieza saga but then when the android saga came along, I give the edge to the original.
Those classic Vegeta lines from Z like "Does a machine like yourself ever experience fear?!" "Are you ready now, to witness a power not seen for thousands of years?" "Cell!!!!! Once again you have taken for granted the power of a true saiyan warrior!! If you really wish to test your strength, stay right where you are!!!" Those will always be boss.
Damn close anyways. I have only a few gripes with Kai, the main one being the poor music choices where I'd even take the original's Japanese soundtrack over it. Bring back Stephanie for Kid/SS2 Gohan, with Faulconer music and I'd be sold on Kai.
Man I wish this was real, because the voice actors got so much better over the years in Kai. It just needs Bruce faulconer soundtrack then that would be "really worth buying DBZ again"!
WO3NiCKWO3, agreed. The problem with the Faulconer music in the early days is that there was filler because Toriyama had to keep drawing the sagas. Not only that, but the music just never shut the fuck up!!! Seriously, had there been some form of silence for a minute: 1. Less migraines 2. More tension 3. More hype Everyone wins!!!
So good, this was such a powerful scene. I think the “perfect” form of Z would have the following -Be like Kai in that filler is cut -Had falconer (for most of it) -Keep Japanese tracks that were really good -Make the parts where the falconer music over Kai doesn’t work too well due to lack of the originals filler fit it better -Original Z gohan voice actor -keep most of Kai’s dialouge, but keep the lines from the originals that were classic, famous and iconic, and just overall better more epic lines that it’s replacement in Kai (i.e. “(chuckles) you are a fool. I’m going to crush you, and throw you into the wind!”)
RIP Chris Ayres. Despite my initial reservations regarding Funimation employing Chris Ayres to replace Linda Young as Frieza, over the years he has grown on me as THE voice for Frieza...and now he's gone. This is heartbreaking...
I now realize what it is that Kai is lacking.. it's the soundtrack!! I remember DBZ always having epic soundtracks when I was kid, it really added to the episodes. Speaking of that, I was searching for this scene with the original music for a long time! Thank you so much for posting. Is it possible to buy these episodes with these original scores? Cause that would really bring back my childhood like no other. haha. So epic these episodes were back then! Cheers :D
Nice remastering OP! I prefer the new dubs BUT the old music. Some have touted the music in Kai, but I still adore the original Faulconer score. They need to release a special edition. Kai voice acting with Faulconer's score. I know this was really the music played during Cell's death, but it fits in here perfectly, and Frieza's scream is just chilling. Again. Nice job OP! Well done!
1:19 You can really hear how done and pissed Goku was here, he gave Frieza several chances to walk away, showed him mercy, even when he shouldn’t have, and Frieza just threw it away. I love DBZ
I feel like people forget how good Kai really is. The acting is way better than the original funi dub as are the lines, and the lines are closer to what the manga said. Not to mention it doesn't drag out as long. Funi dub is still good but not as good as Kai. I will say that while I liked the Kai score, it is still not good as Bruce's music. This is taking the best thing from Kai and the best thing from the original funi dub and making it amazing. I wish the original funi dub was like this.
Chris Ayres has unfortunately passed away so don't anticipate hearing anymore of his work from now on. Daman Mills will most likely be taking over permanently from now on.
I wanna talk about the golden writing that is at play with Frieza here. We have this malicious emperor who has most of the universe bowing at his feet. He has a massive army with powerful warriors, empires and kingdoms across galaxies, and the strength and skill to uphold his ego. And all of it, every ounce of his heritage and power has just been evaporated in mere days, possibly hours. His armies have been wiped, his strongest warriors die at the hands of Vegeta, and his chance of immortality has been stripped from his hands. But most importantly, his pride, ego, and power to stand upon was mercilessly crushed by Goku’s might and willpower. And to watch Goku simply dismiss Frieza as a pathetic fighter and a worthless challenge as he spared his life and fly away mentally destroys him. It’s like Mercenary Tao but a million times better. He can’t bear the thought of letting this warrior defeat the Emperor of the Universe. Even if he can survive the planet’s explosion and fly off to get stronger, one loss from a warrior from a race he previously dominated would end him in almost every way. He can’t stand it. He can’t bear it. And so, in one last prideful attempt, he cowardly fires a laser from behind to end his defeater despite having his life spared. This is beautiful in almost every way and what makes his arc throughout Super all the more satisfying. Fuck y’all if you think DBZ has bad writing and fuck y’all again if you dare think it’s for kids.
Once again excellent work. The Ginyu Transformation theme is still Faulconer's best achievement of the american score. Im sure youll have more fun using it now that Kai is getting a Buu saga.
I like Trunks as a character, but sry i still ain't buying that stuff with him chopping Frieza like he is nothing. Goku killed him in a truly epic fight, not trunks in 10 minutes just to show off of cool he was from the future.
Personally, I consider this to be the defining Goku Moment, especially in the manga. Goku had saved the known universe from tyranny, become the most powerful being in said universe, and avenged the murder of Frieza's victims, including the closest thing Goku had to a brother. And what did it mean to Goku? Next to NOTHING. Because Frieza had wasted his life on Tyranny, sadism, and conquest. Goku gave Frieza a chance to walk away, but Frieza blew it. And as far as everyone knew at the time, he paid for that mistake with his life. Goku loves to fight people. But in this moment, he did perhaps the one thing he hates more than anything. He HURT someone.
Everything about this is perfect except I feel like the original "I am mighty and you are not" speech from Frieza was the best. Add that on top of this whole video and I think this scene would be perfection for the Goku react, music, and animation.
Part of me wishis they brought faulconers score back for this scene specifically at least. And when cell dies and when majin vegeta attacks the crowd and smirks at the camera in the buu saga.
Yesss, you got the death music in the perfect timing. The original funimation had it off. I like this but Frieza's sppech in the funimation dub was better. And voice
I prefer the manga version of this scene. Not because of the dialogue or anything like that but for goku’s expression after blasting Frieza to bits. He looked to sad. As if to say “what a waste”. He genuinely wanted to fight Frieza again and he thought he lost that chance cuz Frieza was being stupid.
