Join lead game designer Tomas Härenstam and host Doug Shute as they talk about the new edition of Sweden's first RPG! They will give details of the Kickstarter campaign, talk about bringing this new edition to Sweden, the choice of introducing this game to English language markets for the first time and leave time for questions from the community about this upcoming product line for Free League Publishing.
Drakar och Demoner was originally launched in Sweden in 1982. Now, we celebrate its 40th anniversary with a brand new and reimagined edition, with one foot firmly planted in the heritage of decades of Swedish gaming and the other in the modern and innovative game design for which Free League Publishing is known worldwide.
Drakar och Demoner / Dragonbane has art by acclaimed illustrator Johan Egerkrans - Illustrator (Vaesen - Nordic Horror Roleplaying and art books Vaesen, Norse Gods, The Undead, Dragons) and lead game design by Tomas Härenstam (Mutant: Year Zero, Forbidden Lands, ALIEN RPG, Twilight: 2000 4th Edition, and the upcoming Blade Runner RPG). The team of contributing writers includes the elite of the Swedish tabletop RPG industry as well as acclaimed historical fiction author Niklas Natt och Dag (1793 The Wolf and the Watchman).

The Dragonbane "Quickstart" was a very important part of the Kickstarter success. The Quickstart really allowed everyone to get a solid feel for the story, art, and rules.

1)Any chance to have a Fantasy Ground ruleset ? 2)It could be possibile to have proper optional rules to bring the game more in the direction of creepy and dark situations? I mean if i think about nordic fantasy I think at creepy and dark folklore.

Loved the video! I'm so excited for this game. Backed the second I saw it was up. Question though. I know you said you'll be doing an update video soon. Just wanted to say I'm hoping there is some news on the future of The One Ring. Moria maybe? 😁

Great stuff, Doug and Free League! Cannot wait for this!! Thnx for covering my question. Sorry for the Appendix N confusion there... that's a statement that comes from the 1st edition D&D DMG. In there in that Appendix, there was listed a huge amount of reading that inspired Gary and others at TSR as they developed D&D. And Tomas, Earthsea is something I've also never read myself... no biggie. 😁🤓 It's on my long list waiting to be. It would be cool to have some of those Swedish fantasy books that inspired Free League designers to be published in English for us to enjoy here. 😉

Happy to back this. I did know that Sweden had its own version of a game that beat D&D regionally similar like "Das Schwarze Auge" did in Germany. Now I will finally get the opportunity to read it as well.

That is interesting, in the UK we had Warhammer. While it didn't dominate D&D it was a good rival and now a big international seller. Actually as a kid, back in the begining I did Chaosium. Cuthulhu and RQ, King Arthur Pendragon. While I never really loved RQ I adored Elric/Stormbringer. Magic World kind of dirived from that lineage and this game was inspired from those early booklets. I even loved the somewhat failed revamp that was also called MW. So buying into this was a no brainer. It looks great and the mechanics at least initially look KAP. I can't wait.
