In the 1900’s American settlers drained the biggest lake in California and the 9th biggest fresh water lake in America. To turn the area into what is now some of the most productive farm land in America. But California is now facing some of the consequences from this decision

I want to say I hate people but the natives were people too. So I guess I just hate money and power hungry pieces of shit. Thank you for this. I'm glad I learned something new.

Visalia local here and stoked I found you on the gram. I live about 30ish minutes from the gateway to the sequoias and these shotty farming practices have left this beautiful mountain range just about completely invisible to me, my whole life, unless there’s rainy conditions or I make the trip to go see them up close. #Fuckcorporategreed

Something similar happened to Aral sea, it was 4th biggest lake in the World, until Soviet Union destroyed it

I think Nature is going to take back beautiful California--the dams will be gone & the natural lakes will return.

Pronounce Tulare as Two lair eee

Historically, Tulare Lake was big and it also was dry. Flood control features (dams, levees, canals) allowed the land to become tax-paying, productive farmland. Statistically, given the flood protection features, the former lake only holds flood water a small percentage of the time. The water can be used in other places, and it will be pumped there.

The problem with your argument is that the land has become pesticide and chimcal laden. The air is highly polluted and residents of the Central Valley experience far higher rates of asthma than areas that aren't similarly polluted. If the land was dedicated only to organic farming that would be different. In addition, we've lost the biodiversity of the area with all its benefits to human and nonhuman life. Wetlands also help keep the surrounding area cool when breezes blow off it by taking the cooler water temps and spreading them into the environment. So, because of the farmland the Central Valley is 5 to 10 degrees hotter than it would be otherwise. I read an article about this discussing the work of an environmental scientist from Northeastern University. It explained the benefits of Tulare Lake very well. I don't remember the site but anyone looking for more info can Web Search the topic and find out more. The Natives have also begun to enjoy having the Lake back to practice some of their old ways of living harmoniously with Nature which they can pass down to the next generations. Peace to Mother Earth and Peace to People.✌🌎🕊🦅🐺🦊🦉🌰

A disagree but that’s fine. I feel like the broken water cycles in SoCal back me up as well
