If you want to increase the reach of your sport, which is the point of things like this, you usually want to use a band or group that's actually popular. Using the most hated band in the world is the opposite of good marketing. Therefore, the NHL is out of touch with what's cool.

@tromedl This is a marketing stunt.. a publicity stunt. Sports do this to grow their reach. The league isn't growing anything using Nickelback. Marketing campaigns aren't about you or me, who are already NHL fans. They are for new fans, and ideally, younger fans. Again, Nickelback isn't going to do that. As I said above, the NHL had Soul Asylum play at an event a year or so ago. Soul Asylum. Do they think kids still listen to early 90's pop grunge?
