The most informative and concise video I've ever seen about windows. Layering is the key to luxurious window treatment
@Neferteria2000

Hello, Miriam! I am now retired as a high-end residential interior designer in the US. In all my years of designing, I very seldom saw interlined window treatments. Mine were most often interlined! I found that it gave the treatment a softer, more lux look. it was also wonderful additional insulation for either the heat of summer or the frigid cold of winter. My window treatments also held up much better as well as hung better from the beginning. I would imagine that interlining would often be used in Canada?

Thank you! I appreciate the plain spoken approach. And even though unlimited budgets are available for a select few, this is a very reasonable approach for the rest of us. And speaking of a layering, a video on lighting and layering would be very welcome!

Miriam, your drapery treatments are always Luxe and Beautiful! Now I understand how your window treatments stand head and shoulder above the rest! Thank you for taking the time to explain shade options, whether to inside mount, outside or cover casing. I love the relaxed Roman because they soften the look when done in a lightweight fabric; and I love that you break and not puddle your draperies. Lol!

Hi Miriam! I followed your advice on layering blinds and draperies. I went with a bamboo roller blinds (textured look) in the back of the house which is the family room and light drapery for light filtering. I wish I can share my pictures. I’m so pleased and proud of the look. Thank you for all your videos!

Thank you for such a through explication of the types and reasons for each layer. My question is do I try to closely match the wall color or just use a neutral shade? I have a solid color sofa, and patterned chairs, and a pair of chairs that are striped that pull all the colors from the patterned chairs. Also, with 10’ ceilings do I go all the way up with the drapes to my crown molding..or just part way between the top of the window & the crown. Your examples are so beautiful & elegant. Thank you for your time, help & expertise with my queries.

Good guidance info. Please take a look at Hunter Douglas's Duette Cellular shades. They offer a sheer......and it can be created with 2 fabrics of which one is a sheer. So you can have light control/privacy and denser light control/privacy. AND it can be top down/bottom up. Love this product.

I want to update my bedroom and the windows are not so much the issue but rather the sliding glass door. I had curtains before and between the hubby not taking the time to pull them back and the dogs going in and out they were quickly ruined. I was thinking of what I would call shutter door. Look of shutters that are actually sliders themselves. I can't afford to replace the sliders so do you have other suggestions? By the way I recently found your channel and love it!

Hi thanks for watching. Not sure if you’ve signed up for our news letter yet but we are actually doing a blog post on how to select carpet sizes. Also check out our other video on furniture placement, it may be helpful to you. As for the wooden blinds I would definitely remove them if possible and replace them with a roller blind if privacy is an issue, if not just keep the drapery, I think you’ll be much happier

I first learned about colour when doing a Colour Me Beautiful course in the 90s. First thing the lady said "Colour defines the shape ie if your red top finishes across your widest part, and your pants/skirt begins there your widest part is highlighted" (approximate quote!). Also useful for me was: In spaces, pale colour makes the walls/item receed. Dark colour will make the walls/ item 'jump out at you'/catch your eye. I use these ideas in rooms now. I'm in small spaces so I use pale shades and only colours that blend so very little 'jumps out' at me. I heard another useful tip: paint A4 sheets of paper with paint colours you are considering and pin them round the space, moving them into different lights to see how they look/make you feel. Or cut pictures from magazines of rooms you like and replicate(even cheaply) 3 or 4 main characteristics in your space. I'm a self-confessed style nerd. Sorry long text. G Ire

Thank you 🙏🏼! Easy to understand! Q. I need to add fabric to my velvet panels for a better lengths (they’re short 8”) and wonder if I can just add a different (but compartible) color of velvet panels to the bottom… would that work well?? Thank you 🙏🏼
@miriammanzointeriors
@miriammanzointeriors 2 года назад
Hi thanks for watching you could absolutely add a contrasting panel at the bottom! Typically when doing that I like to add a heavier fabric which in your case isn’t possible, so instead I would add a darker colour to get the illusion of more weight at the bottom and I would also take the line of the bottom of your window trim and match the seam between the two colours to that. so for example, if your window trim is 2 feet above the finished floor that would be the size of the contrasting panel. Hope this helps

I took notes! 😂 I bought a bunch of semi sheer curtains for the back end of my home (its literally all windows floor to ceiling where each section measure 9’, 15’ and 12’ long); I wanted to do the euro french pleats but am unsure if i should unhem all the sides to make them into one extra wide curtain and then add the pleats or if i should just pleat each panel set. Each panel is 50x108” and I have 12 sets. Please advise. Many thanks.

Can you do a video on choosing a curtain rod? Is color just a personal preference?
@trouse5046
@trouse5046 2 года назад
One question I remembered to ask...Help me understand why a drapery rod used for only panels (side draperies) are 1) black in color, to be seen and 2) is installed across the length of the window/door, again to be seen? I guess my interest here is - shouldn’t the design want to eliminate another object to look at? Why not use shorter rods that are 24_30” L?
@miriammanzointeriors
@miriammanzointeriors 2 года назад
Hi thanks for watching, there are a couple of reasons to use a full rod rather than two shorter ones. the first is that the rod going right across is more lux; using two shorter ones actually looks like you tried to save money, the second reason is that it would actually be more distracting and make you notice that rather than the beautiful drapery panels and other details in the room

Your videos are very helpful, and I watch them regularly. Much as I also admire you and your personal style, maybe when you are offering tips, you could give more screen space to your design scapes, and not to yourself.. The designs are in one corner and disappear even before one can make sense of them, and we just see you. You could just keep the audio going, but concentrate more on what you are advising on and showing. Julie Khu does that.. Herself, she shows enough of in introduction. After all, you are designing spaces, not attire and get up... 😄

Still excellent condition , it’s my living room and I keep them open for the morning sun because I also have a few plants in that room. I would like some nice simple drapery.
