Purple is my favorite color. That little girl is so sweet. Way above my skill level at this point as an absolute beginner, but perhaps after I get better and have more experience with simpler things. Thanks for sharing.

Becca, I just wanted to pop back into the comment section with my experience with synthetic brushes. When I started watercolor painting synthetic brushes were very bad! (1971) The new technologies that are available today in the manufacturing of brushes is a phenomenal leap forward. I often recommend the Mimik brands and looking at brushes with both natural and synthetic hairs is a wonderful way to go! But not necessarily the best. Try out your favorite kind of brush in a new line of brushes to help you decide if you want more of them. I have been using the Princeton Aqua Elite’s for my Kolinsky dupe and the Velvet touch brushes from Princeton. You are not going to be unhappy with any of the Mimik’s either!

Hullo Becca, thanks for sharing this lovely illustration and sweet video! I am glad to see you using the “low tech” solution for keeping your surface clean. Yes, I am talking about the sheet of paper that you use under your arm as you inked! This is a wonderful example for showing us how you work and your process in illustration creation. I am going to have to watch more of your videos as I am wondering about your professional grade of watercolor paints are? I know archival supplies are so not needed when creating for scanning or photography and printing the artwork for the final results. I did work off and on for a couple of different design firms for over 15 years and I never “saved” my work. Company policy was after the art was done and photographed, into the trash it went! I believe that this is just another reason gouache has such a poor reputation for being a permanent painting medium. Most of the pigments are the same as watercolor and acrylics, but lightfastness is or was never a consideration for using a gouache paint. Thank you for sharing this wonderful video with us.
