I am buying pre-fab shipping container houses for my next container house projects. Building a shipping container house myself was fun but for these bigger projects I need professional manufacturing that can build multiple units at once so I am visiting different container house factories and seeing what they cost and the quality of their builds. First up is Steelblox based in southern California they are state certified and one of the more higher end container house builders. These are a far cry from DIY shipping container houses or the cheap ones that can be bought online. Once we select a factory for our projects i will share cost comparisons!

As a person who has worked building custom turn key homes from traditional stick frame and log cabins, the very first question out of my mouth with EVERY video like this on RU-vid is, "How much insulation is in those walls and ceiling?". What are the long term operational costs of these structures? I feel like it should be a prerequisite to ALL videos doing walkthroughs to first discuss how well insulated the structure is and what systems they're using to cycle fresh air. When I see a metal box with large glass surfaces I see thermal gaps. How are they managing the insulation?

Insulation was the first thing that crossed my mind. In California and a few select other places in North America, you could probably get away with little insulation, but where I live we have winters that drop into the -40s

looks cool indeed, design is good ,but it comes down to price, because if i can build a brick house for the same-ish amount of money per square meter id go with brick every time. Also i want them to comment on heat insulation, which with those giant windows on top of it being a container, would be terrible

I mostly agree but personally i think location and value are more important than price. building for $350 a square foot in CA seems expensive compared to $200 a square foot in the midwest but as a developer i have to look at appraised value and sales price. A lot of people said my previous house was too expensive and while they are not wrong i did double my money on it

Knowing what you get, and (generally speaking) WHEN you get it, is a luxury these days. It’s not limited to electric vehicles. Brick houses = I’ve seen tradies down here bailing, blaming weather, having costs blow out and that isn’t taking into account human error. Give it a few years, prefab = better and if costs were the same, people will prefer it. Not a popular opinion, but give it a thought :)

I think the appeal of shipping container homes is they *look cheap* enough to make you think it's affordable, but end up being more expensive than a traditional build and with less interesting design.

Don't think the mdf is a good idea.. That stuff is not friendly with moisture. It will absorb the moisture / condensation within the wall. Will look good for about 5 years and then 👎

Your projects are primarily as advertising for your sponsores not for any practical use or financially viable. People want container home only for on reason cost.. nothing else.. stop wasting time if you can beat the cost of traditional building cost.. Mark your videa as Advertising!!
