Interesting to finally see a study done on the alleged toxicity of the container floors. I epoxy sealed my entire container home's floor because of the claims that pesticides used ln the floorboards could off gas toxicity.

Ditto, I was told that the manifest sheet on the side of the container tells you what chemiclas were used in the container to prevent pests and rodents so I had planned on removing all of my floors. I had my first container floor epoxied as well but now I'm glad to find out that I don't have to remove the flooring of my other containers.

I was happy to see the plywood isn't listed as toxic. However, my containers were used for tires and tractor parts. Without sealing the odor of oil and rubber is pronounced. So, the initial plywood might be 'okay' but many are chemically treated for insects. So, the same reason I don't direct contact pressure treated lumber, I would not direct contact shipping container plywood. I intend to paint with Kilz then skim coat the plywood and tile.

Excellent video. If you position that ring toward the corner and ratcheted it up it might pop it up easier. Then get yourself a Burke Bar. Best pry bar known to man. Once you pop a corner up with a 1/4" gap that Burke Bar will do the rest.

Ive worked in and around containers for years and I have owned 2. If you intend to live in or store soft goods in one you should have a plan for mitigating the "toxic" smell/ oder, because it will permeate whatever you store in it. If you store soft goods like cloths and dont have them sealed and protected they will end up smelling like the floor of a container. I like the bamboo floors as they dont have an oder like the chemicaly treated floors. Posibly because they have a polyurethane seal on top. Just my 2 cents.

I really enjoy your information that will be helpful for me not to learn the hard way. I am still living in my car but saving my money to be in a better place in another year when my daughter moves over. The floor has been an issue in some of our ideas for a layout with joining 3 side by side. Thinking of a raised floor on the middle section.

I recommend High Cube if possible, the extra height makes a huge difference. Don't weld any fixture for framing/plating! Just make an wooden H shaped construction and hold it place with the top beams. We made hundreds of these insulated constructions... Insane what extra work even professionals are wasting on that widespread basic misconception!

I like your videos. You do a good job at it and you have a great personality for communicating with viewers. I must say though I find your hardware prices strikingly high relative to the same or similar items available elsewhere on the internet. If you can continue to sell hardware at more than twice the price of others, I guess it's all good, at least for you all.

another great vid, thanks for sharing. Instead of the ratchet straps, you could just put the d rings on each side, then two guys with big crowbars or pips stick them inside d rings and use it like a fulcrum to lift up the piece of wood?

I missed it in your video. Are those floor joists I beams or C channels? 1 of my sea cans mice are coming through the floor at my farm. I was thinking of removing the plywood and cutting it into strips to drop into the bottom of the I beams and silicone around them to seal up then start filling the channels with quikrete. I seriously doubt mice will chew through that much steel and concrete to get in again. But if its C channel I'll need to secure one side of the plywood with screws through the channel. Overall a great video. It is hugely helpful to see how to remove that flooring.❤

Great video bud! Hey we have a container that we converted into a bike repair shop. The floor was epoxy painted but now we are having an issue with a dark oily substance seeping up through the floor. We cut out a section of the floor and found that the bottom of the container was coated with a tar type of substance. Is there something we can do to prevent the seepage without having to replace the floor? Thanks
@TheContainerGuyTV
@TheContainerGuyTV 11 месяцев назад
Weird that it's seeping upwards. Not really how gravity works. Must be catching a ride with water or something. Is the container sitting directly on the ground? If so, try getting it up on blocking to air out the underside.

The myth isn't actually a myth but more the usual confusion of facts. A 'one tripper' will usually have a safe floor but where the actual concern comes from is the used/well used containers that could have been used for transport and/or storage of highly toxic chemicals and products that would have contaminated the floorboards. Some companies keep strict records of items transported with these containers but if the container was used as extra storage at some location using extremely toxic products, there's no enforcement on logs so you'll never know.
@dovahkindragonborn9827

thanks for the very useful video what would the best way for a normal guy to insulate the floor? set it up on a bunch of blocks and crawl under and put mineral wool? use a forklift and lift it up and have a spray foam guy get underneath? both of these ideas sound super risky to me any experts?
@TheContainerGuyTV
@TheContainerGuyTV Год назад
2" rigid foam on top of the container floor, tape the seams, install 5/8" T&G plywood subfloor on top (screw down through foam into the container floor), install flooring on top of subfloor, build walls directly on top of the new flooring. Leave everything 1" away from the walls. Spray foam insulate.

Thankyou for providing information. It is too bad you do not offer container services in the US, specifically VA. There seems a wash of internet container companies across the US. Mis advertising, not disclosing full pricing, transportation costs... I am interested in the purchase of some containers and may transport them myself... but I can not get a depot price to understand the markup in price. I am willing to pay a fair price for me not a good price to the "broker " who has no controll on the quality. The "shipping container transportation seems more then the container cost, great gig. Thanks for your information. Additional information on how to move/load them ourselves would be helpful. At least not what to do.

Buying a used one and not knowing what may have been spilt or leaked on the floors during their working life, might be what online people are referring to. My friends container was bought used and has actual lumber, maybe 2 x 12s treated boards and I have heard that treated wood is meant for outdoor use only.

Maybe in some instances but others think it's the chemical applied at the factory that's toxic. Don't use used containers for container homes. Silly to waste all that money on something that won't last.
