it's good to see the relationship you have with your daughter. Good dad there. ..and no doubt a good young lady as well. excellent info, there are 50,000 RU-vid archers.. you're one of the few I trust.
I dont mean to be so off topic but does anybody know of a way to get back into an instagram account..? I was dumb lost my password. I would love any tricks you can give me!
@Aidan Marley i really appreciate your reply. I found the site on google and Im waiting for the hacking stuff now. Looks like it's gonna take quite some time so I will reply here later with my results.
Hello Jeff and Lucy, I have been battling creeping and it because of bad habits of my youth. I love the relationship and love your daughter has with you. I, along with everyone wish we could shoot like her. Lucy is a talented archer taught wel by you. Thank you for all the help your videos give me. Be safe Rick Mansberger
I am not easy in English, so I don't know if I will use the good words: you are a kind man, Jeff, it appears in you tone, your gestures, the relation with you daughter. You are a kind man and you share with us the knowledge you have gathered over the years. Thank you for who you are and what you do.
Always good advise Jeff ........good to see you enjoying and sharing your passion for archery with your teenage daughter who clearly adores you ! .......keep em coming good job.
I watched another video on back tension right before this talking about squeezing a tennis ball in between your shoulder blades. The way you explained makes much more sense. Thanks for the video!
Lucy..... like your Father you are very talented....Jeff I enjoy your videos for the information you share and the great respect you have for each other,
I have learned more through your videos than any other source. A truely wise archer, with a way to explain things simply. Not having to talk for talking's sake. Thank you and please, both of you, keep up the excellent work.
Where ever I am, when I see that Mr Jeff Kavanagh has put up another video I watch it right there and then! Once again, another awesome video. Cheers Jeff (and Lucy).
This is adorable. Such a pure relationship- it's so cute how your daughter is hanging on your arm for most of this video. She adores you! All the best- thanks for the wisdom!
One of the best videos on the back tension principle. The thing with the verticle plane helped me realize I was doing it wrong all the time! When drawing the bow my right hand kept going outwards slightly before pulling back in to my cheek. It wasnt effecting my shooting directly, but when doing many shots I realized how much energy I wasted, because I didn't do that cleanly! Thanks a lot you two!
after a long day at hospital with my boy ,your video makes me smile, wonderful relationship with your daughter and fantastic info as usual, all the best from us here in Scotland.
Just marvelous. Even if I weren't an archer, I'd appreciate this video for its lovely pedagogy. Jeff, you and your daughter are a wonderful team. Thanks!
As usual, the best instruction on the net. There are a lot of great shooters out there, but you are one of the few who can actually transmit how to be a good shot to others. Thanks Jeff.
Thank you Jeff, your explanations helped me on my way to get the backtension thing right. I'm inspired to practice it tonight. And no, you didn't Talk to much. I appreciate your videos and tips. Thanks and greetings from Germany
Thanks for the tips on getting the back into the draw. I can't wait to give them a whirl. I really like the interaction between you two. It's very nice to see. Keep it up please.
Hi again Jeff, if you watch your videos closely your will always learn something new with each repeated viewing. Never could figure out what or where the "J" stroke was, but I think I might know now. When you bring you bow arm up, your string arm paints a "J" with the tail at the front of your motion ending with the straight part of the "J" going back to your anchor. As I stated in my other comment you described me to a tee, trying to transfer to back tension would lead to a collapse. Now with the deep hook, my arm is a lever and my back tension is automatically engaged. The instant improvement is astounding. I cannot wait for my next official shoot and to see under pressure if I can do as well as I think your coaching has improved my form and overall shot cycle. Sincerely Rick Mansberger
wow would have to agree you have done a great job teaching her I don't know if I've ever seen such a more perfect and graceful draw cycle I would bet she's deadly accurate too
Thanks Jeff, I have been using a bow for about 40 years, and it's great to see someone share their knowledge and the their joy of using a bow with others. Makes it great that Lucy adds to the fun too.
To answer her question, with all respect, she IS definitely a pretty face in this picture, but not just that. She is also an accomplished archer. Great video, thank You very much, subscribed. Greetings from EU!
Great video as usual, and a simple, to-the-point explanation of a complicated subject. And Lucy is getting good enough where she can put you out to pasture soon!
I've been shooting for 2 months and the club I'm in are a bit short on coaching. Your vids have proved invaluable to me. I now shoot quicker and more accurately. I've incorporated some of your techniques into my own technique and I now feel no tension in my arms and shoulders when shooting. Thanks to your assistance I've increased my target shooting score over 60 arrows by about 100 points, (343 to 439) with just changing my technique, and that was in just one session. Strangely I didn't get sore back muscles after my normal 2 hour session, in fact I felt quite relaxed yet energised.
Absolutely love how informative your channel is and you and your daughter seem to have such a good relationship, it's heart warming to see :} Thank you for the excellent info!
Great to see you teaching again. Talking back tension is so important and you seem to reach it naturally. Hope you spend more time illustrating it in the future.
Disagree with me if you want, but Lucy has the most perfect, effortless draw of anybody I've ever seen. It's better than her Dad's, as he readily--and proudly--admits. I think Chris, Grizzly Jim, and Wolfie might agree with me.
Than you very much ! i found these tip very useful for me. As a olympic archer, none taught me back tension in a so brillant way...Now i fully understand it. It's not a tension ( tensions not necessary must be deleted) it's a way to use powerful back muscles and reach a better alignment. Probably the archer will feel more relaxed not more tension, if did the draw correctly
Just got my Bear Grizzly in the mail a week ago today and am loving it. Achieving the back tension I is what I'm having a heck of a time maintaining, that and the deep hook. Your vids are an excellent source of info and great visual demonstration. Thanks for posting and keep em coming!
Jeff, you make a lot of sense. I never really understood the "squeeze both shoulder blades together" either, when in reality, the bow arm just has to push. Also a constant pull with the rhomboid makes more sense than the transfer. Thanks, you are making correct form seem more simple.
Thank you for your explanation of back tension, it has made a big improvement in the range of bow power as well now shooting 20 pounds more with ease using the correct muscle. I thought I was. I refer you to all trad archers that come to me at Kawartha Traditional Archerey Center here in Ontario.
Great info. Coming back from not shooting for years due to shoulder injury I am still working on how to draw my bow without hurting things and how to be able to shoot a little heavier pound bow. Watching this video I see your daughter with a high elbow not the low elbow you describe.
Thank you, I’m new to your Chanel, found you by looking for reviews on the Bear kodiak, I quit shooting my super kodiak 60lbs some years ago as it was causing me a lot of pain, I’m a lefty who has shot a right handed kodiak and loved it. Love your Chanel and looking to purchase a kodiak soon.
just found you channel, am enjoying the topic as well as the entertainment, class act. You are a lucky family, though am sure it came with hard work and love from all parties. Thanks for putting this together series for all to share.
Hi Jeff I,ve been waching your videos for several weeks now and have learned a lot from your videos. I have been shooting for about two months now my groups are getting smaller . I shot every day about two to three hours weather permitting. So thank you happy shooting.
Jeff I am so greatfull for you putting out these videos. That have help me so much with my archery form, and my accuracy has gotten so much better too. I also think it is awesome that your daughter is willing to help you with your videos. Great job to both of you!
Many thanks Jeff for all your great videos. Very instructive and well explained. I'm trying to follow your advices and it helps me a lot. Your daughter is very kind and funny :) All the best from France. Keep on sharin' your experience !
Back tension is something that I and many other archers struggle with, so thank you for that great insight Jeff! I will try out the training method you mentioned where another person puts light pressure against the elbow and see if it helps me.
You two crack me up! Very similar how I get along with my daughter who is now a young woman about the same age as Lucy in this video. I haven't seen a video from you in a while, hope all is well. I was actually thinking about making a video a lot like this, talking about form and shot cycle with my daughter demonstrating the movements.
It's also important to note that young Lucy is already hard focusing on the target before she even draws the bow. I'm sure she is looking at a very small point at the center of the target. Good form. Thanks, as always, Jeff. Good luck keeping the boys away! ;)
Great Lesson Jeff...sage advice for novice and beginners! I recently reintroduced my 11 yr son, and started my 9yr old daughter on archery. We can't wait to get more target time outdoors. Most importantly, thanks for reminding me what the gift of parenting can provide. Perhaps Lucy can start her own RU-vid page for the young ladies to follow. Thank you both!
Hey Jeff, your observations regarding back tension from the very start of the draw, coupled with Lucy's super-smooth form were a huge game-changer for me. I just came in from the most productive practice I've ever experienced. As a long time Hill enthusiast (and bowyer) you provided the last piece of the puzzle in my case...that puzzle being, "how did Howard Hill release so quickly, smoothly and accurately?" Thanks to you both!
Jeff, thanks for videos! Just got into archery and Jim from Merlins (not commercial) mentioned you couple times. You are teaching very useful things and tips. So far, I am trying to set up mu frame and the anchor. Got a #35 Sage as a beginner, but looking to get #25 limbs due to extra long DL. High five for bringing kids into the sport! By the way, Lucy, dad is not too much :-) He is teaching. P.S. I am in Canada as well.
yep yr fully hot. i just started recurve literally three days ago. I'm starting low and working on my form then i wanna graduate upto hunting regulation. i like the video broken up with movement and jokes even silly as they are it helps when going back and forth in the video to pick out each tip. most videos are more then 10min and they tend to dump everything they know about archery which is to much info. this is a good format. and the lady has a killer eye when about to shoot. lucky to learn so young.
Thank you. A very informative video on the correct muscle group to use in a draw, and your daughter is clearly a very nice and very lovely young lady:)
