Easily one of the most instructive videos out! We all know how nuanced trad. archery can be for each individual, but I found the entire video impactful on how I can shoot better--without having to completely unlearn decades of instinct or muscle memory. On the other hand, all the wind and distance from the camera interfered with how well I heard the audio so may wanna consider getting a pop or wind filter; that's what comes to mind as a solution, but there could absolutely be some DIY alternatives available. Thanks for the content brother!
Thanks very much. That's nice of you to let me know you enjoyed it. My wife got me a microphone and when I remember to use it the quality is better. Be well and Aim small.
That’s some mighty good tip’s you’re sharing, especially the idea of the tip of the elbow at full draw to be like the rear sight of a rifle. That’s a new one for me and I like it, will put it into my very fast snap shooting shot sequence soon.
I love the setup on the back porch. So peaceful where you live. I think the quality of the bow has a lot to do with it. I bought a Samick Sage and built up my strength then bought a custom bow from P. A.W bowyers guild and it made a huge difference in my accuracy. I couldn't be happier. Awesome video and i look forward to seeing more. 👍
I just recently started getting into traditional archery and everything you have stated in this video are tips my brother told me and it helped me tremendously. It’s crazy how important keeping the elbow in line and aiming small is! Great video! My brother always says “if you aim small you’ll miss small”
Interesting video, I'll give your technique a try. It certainly works for you - and take no notice of negative comments, it's certain that the vast majority of viewers appreciate your efforts!
Thanks. A straight up technique that’s repeatable by us humans! I, like you, mix in a great many techniques and I do gravitate toward the closer to the eye hold for 15 and in for squirrels n such.
Thank you very much! I have watched all your videos but finally, when I paid attention to your little words "aim small", that actually helped me to improve my shooting!
Archery is like painting...those who are masters of the knowledge hide the key to the knowledge. You are not like this! You are a good person, thank you!🥰
Good shooting bud. I started deer hunting in the mid 1980’s with a recurve and I know how challenging it was for me to be accurate. You make it look easy. I went to a compound in the 1990’s and switched to a recurve crossbow in 2010. I do have a tremendous amount of respect for traditional archers because I know the amount of discipline and practice it takes to be consistent. I should have stuck with traditional in the 80’s. There is just something magical about watching those arrows hit the mark without the use of sights. Great video and great shooting.
@@tylerwhaley4872 I haven't done it as much as I intended, I target shoot with rifles and that's taken most of my time. But with practice I was doing OK I think. I have 3 fingers under, works best for me.
Appreciate the advice. You gotta be thick skinned to post on the internet. No matter how kind your trying to be and how much you explain something is "your" way and not necessarily the "correct " way your always gonna have the bitter angry keyboard warriors who feel like its theyre purpose on earth to point out what your doing wrong or how you stated something wrong etc. Roll with the punches my friend.
I understand. It would be great if all arguments could be settled on the Archery course.🤣🏹🎯. I'm actually getting Way more positive responses than Trolls. I did figure out how to block one angry viewer. Thanks for watching.
Thank you for all the information, great video and shooting! I’ll try your technique to improve my shooting. So far traditional archery have been a very humbling experience for me😅
I haven’t started shooting yet. Next week will be my first time however, I will keep what you said in mind. It seems easy enough to remember. Thank you for your tips. You seem like a really cool, dude good looking out bro, and thanks for keeping the comments open.
Thanks for this. I'm new to archery and I'm struggling with aiming properly, this was an informative video for me. I'll put what you said to practice and see if it works for me.
Very solid information and well presented .. Thank you very much. I AGREE on all points offered and you confirm where I am after many decades of shooting. Well done. From Kawartha Traditional Archery Center Ontario Canada Fred
You must have been reading my mind as I was just about to ask you of your AMAZING shooting and what your technique was. GREAT, GREAT video! I hope to try some of your techniques to my shooting to see how it does. I have a bad shoulder so I'm ALWAYS looking for ways to help my shooting! THX AGAIN for this and ALL your other GREAT videos!! AIM SMALL!! 🏹🎈🎯
Thank you! I am adjusting to a longbow and just yesterday figured out the final "straight back" thing. The "elbow rear sight golf ball" analogy is something I never heard before, but will definitely try.
Yeah, visualizing catching a golf ball rolling off your shoulder is perfect motion for release hand. Crockett hits the nail on the head, literally! Haha!
Very nice of you to share this strategy. I can identify with so much of what you said. Everything in traditional archery seems to be some kind of compromise. My technique has evolved by sacrificing “perfect geometrical form” by raising the anchor point close to my eye. There are a few advantages for this especially when shooting from unorthodox positions. I like what you said about gleaning from other shooters. Heard the pail drop analogy before, but it is the first i heard about the golf ball follow through though. I love your videos, short and sweet.
That's an interesting perspective you have on how you aim with TRAD. Out of all the RU-vidrs I've watched with me picking up TRAD from Compound, your grouping right there is by far the tightest.
Great video, and informative.. I started archery 2 years ago using a recurve and carbon arrows , and have since moved to a Bodnik Flatbow and wooden arrows, and I'm hooked.. I love getting out in the forest shooting at 3d targets.... I'm constantly trying to improve my personal best score, but remembering to enjoy shooting and not be too hard on myself on bad shooting days.. Glad I found this video, well wishes from Ireland.
This looks like a really natural tehnique for our physique, I will try it out when I get the chance. I am uncomfortable with the stance that was taught at the range, I'm not saying the perfect T pose with a perfectly vertical bow is a bad technique but my wrists and shoulder scream in agony after 15 minutes of shooting, let alone after a 2 hour session
Great video, and I love ur definition of aim small, looks similar to my style, but I do see some differences that can help me get a tighter group. Good shooting
Glad you left the comments open so I could thank you for this cool video. Feel like I could smell the fresh air and trees. Well, I'm just starting in archery at 60 and with my vision it is always instinctive shooting at best! Looking forward to checking out your content. 👍🎯
Great video. Excellent form and shooting accuracy. I have recently dedicated to using the feather to the nose technique. When I am able to execute my shooting is much improved but I still sometimes can not draw completely to get the feather to touch and am essentially short drawing. I believe my problem is having too much focus on the target and not enough focus on completing the touch of the feather. I would be willing to bet if you are getting negative responses it is due to some jealousy and low self esteem on their part.
Aim small miss small . Cool video brother I shoot 3 under but these tips are helpful . This winter I am going to spend time perfecting my form and work on consistency. All the best to you , I just found your channel !!
I teach archery. That is really similar the way I teach. We tried to shoot about a 100 to a 150 arrows A-day. It's a lot of fun and good practice Good job again
Great video man! It's always nice to see how other people shoot, it keeps it interesting and it shows that the science of archery is based on different perspectives.
I absolutely agree. We are all different and what works for me might not work for you. If you can grab a tid bit from this video that helps you. That's awesome. "Adapt what is useful, reject what is useless, and add what is specifically your own." Bruce Lee.👍
That's actually my second favorite quote. 👍“The archer is the true weapon; the bow is just a long piece of wood.” Sebastien de Castell. Is my favorite. Thanks for the comment.🏹👍
I like the laser analogy hehe... that makes sense to me in a weird way! Could you do a video specifically on your release? I am trying to figure out what is going on the moment I release. So much is happening at that point in the shot that my mind sort of blanks out from too much input and I don't have control over my release hand. I would love to hear your take on this part of the shot cycle.
You said that you bring the arrow to just under your dominant eye for close shots up to 15 yards. Where do you hold when it’s beyond that say 25 yards? The fletching touching your nose is great idea for everyone that has a long enough nose, unfortunately my nose is short 😂 but still an excellent suggestion. This is the first time watching any of your videos but It’s so good, I’m subscribing. Looking forward to watch your other videos. Dig your beard and mustache too.
Thank you kindly. I often use a technique called face walking. I have different anchor points on my face. By combining point of aim and face walking I can be somewhat accurate out two 60 yards. 👍
Learned a bunch..... Makes Sense Average deer shot in Missouri is Fifteen yds or less.... Though I have taken deer out to fourty yds but that was with sight and release aid.
Hey there Crockett! I tried reading all the comments on this video but didn’t see anyone ask this. I am curious if in your release does your string hit your nose? If so does it get raw after awhile or is yours just used to it after all your years of shooting? I ask because I have noticed that good archers who shoot super small objects hit their noses once string releases. Is that another key to being super accurate? Love your videos. Short sweet and to the point. Thank you
I enjoy watching you shoot traditional archery. I wish I still could shoot.😢Why don’t you do a hunting video taking a whitetail. Keep up the shooting my friend.
I don’t care what anyone else says but I think this video was inspired by my comment in one of your videos the other day about how it takes me 3 shots before I hit my target and it only takes you one shot. Just kidding but this is an awesome video and thank you for showing us. I string walk with my finger compounds and I don’t really have an issue with those divisions but my trad recurve isn’t great.
