Another enjoyable video. You always make my day when I get a notification. I'm still not a fan of how the C8 looks (and I've waiting for Corvette to go mid-engined my whole life!) but it IS an amazing car, and it sounds incredible. Thanks again for another fantastic video.

I liked your way of summarizing the takeaways in a form that '90s car fans' can appreciate. Interesting how the seating position on the new car is effectively moved forward on the C8 putting the driver in a more optimal overall location for complete vehicle connectivity. Looked like a fun day out there!!

Mid-engine and interior improvements definitely sound nice but my interest in the C8 dropped a bunch when I heard there would be no stick version available.
@RetroCarsForever
@RetroCarsForever 2 года назад
Totally get that. But as much as I love the act of stick shift driving, the car is so slick and so quick that I would feel like the clunky part that's slowing the car down. Besides, it's nice to use your left foot as a brace, the brakes are so good! The 8 speed dual clutch is pretty satisfying in its own right, even if it is less involving.
@ProudFilthyCasual
@ProudFilthyCasual 2 года назад
Well, here’s how I see it, at a certain point, having a stick and having to shift through that at a certain point has diminishing returns and makes you slower no matter how much we like it. F1 cars have paddle shifters for a reason, that is the peak of performance meeting racing, and they use paddles for good reason. When you are going a certain speed and cornering, having both hands on the wheel but still able to shift is pretty important.
@RetroCarsForever
@RetroCarsForever 2 года назад
@@ProudFilthyCasual Completely agreed. I'm a stickshifting die hard, but after this experience with the C8, I realize I actually prefer good dual clutch flappy-paddle trans for NEW cars that are THIS fast. Whereas I'm def NOT the limiting factor in a comparatively slow car like my C4, so I much prefer the stickshift and the driver involvement in that car.
@user-sq6nu3rv1m
@user-sq6nu3rv1m 2 года назад
@@RetroCarsForever True. A stick shift is definitely not the quickest option in today's world of superfast shifting automatics. I just prefer to have the enjoyment/interaction of a good stickshift for the other 98% time when I'm not trying to go completely flat-out fast as possible. :-)

@RetroCarsForever
@RetroCarsForever 2 года назад
Me too! Couldn't figure out a way to make that happen, at least on this occasion. I bet I'd be caning the hell out of the C4 for most of the lap, while you can see in the video how rarely I was truly able to floor it in the C8...It's just SO MUCH faster! On a much tighter course, like an SCCA style coned parking lot, I think the disparity would be much less considering how much bigger and heavier the C8 is.

Thanks, glad you enjoyed it! I hate to say what's "better" or "worse" because of how different they are, but here goes... The C8 is leagues faster, more capable, more confidence inspiring, and more comfortable. I did "7" laps in the same car last year. 102.16 (including pit exit), 58.16, 57.11, 57.86, 57.22, 57.89, ~56.9 (estimated pace into the last corner). My video is on my channel if you want to see the pace picked up a bit. My last lap was on course for something in the high 56s but they didn't let me finish the lap. If I went out again, I know I could settle it down into the low-mid 56s, I was way too erratic, and I needed him to let me focus. Really frustrating that you pay for 7 laps but your first lap includes the pit exit, and the last lap is cut short. So its 5 laps. Plus they jaw your ear off the whole time. Next time I would respectfully ask them to keep the advice to a minimum.

When we talked about my Las Vegas vs Indianapolis track experiences, your Vegas run was very similar to what I had there. The driving coaches encouraged you to push the limits. You would have been thrown off the Indianapolis track about thirty seconds into your first lap. It pisses me off remembering how good Las Vegas was considering I paid a pretty good amount for a Ferrari 488 and a Lamborghini Huracan at Indianapolis only to get there and find out they had a rule that you couldn't get within three feet of the edge of the track... and they enforced the hell out of that rule. I was told around the second turn of my first lap that if I got close to the edge again, I was banned from their company's events. It was like having your grandmother in the passenger seat assuming it was your first drive around the block.
@RetroCarsForever
