absolutely no way for ganguly or sehwag ..All time India xi ll play against all time opponent XI not likes of kenya/zimb/namibia or those of md sami/umar gul/rana naveed for sehwag to smash all over...It will be against likes of Wasim/Waqar/Starc/Malinga/Mcgrath/Ambrose.. The man with the beard makes a ridiculous argument that Sehwag with higher S/R should be picked ahead of Ganguly. Ganguly has 31 ODI MOM awards, 6th highest ever & 3rd after Kohli & Tendulkar as Indian. This means that whatever the S/R, the runs that he made ensured that India won, unlike Sehwag. Thus Ganguly is a much more impact player than Sehwag in ODIs. Also, I cannot remember any significant Sehwag knocks in crunch games in ODIs apart from 2002 Champions Trophy SF, while there are many for Ganguly- 1. 123- Chasing 316 in Dhaka against Pak in Independence Cup Final 2. 140 & 120- SF & Final Champions Trophy 2000 3. 100 in the SF 2002 Champions Trophy 4. 60 off 43 balls in Natwest Final 2002 5. The 'Soft runs' against Kenya was in group match where India were struggling & SF Yes, Ganguly's scores against Aussies is less, but he averaged more than 50 against SA who boasted of as good an attack at that time with Donald, Kallis, Pollock, Ntini, Klusener & Nel among others. Only somebody clueless about cricket will pick Sehwag over Ganguly in an ODI X1.
Well said. Also Sehwag does not average above 40 against Aus as claimed by RK around the 18 min mark. Sehwag s average against Australia in ODIs is actually lesser than Ganguly’s. He should check Cricinfo statsguru
I totally agree. Total nonsense spoken by KK about Ganguly making soft runs. Seriously? It's not like everyone was just scoring runs in those games. Kenya was a good team in that world cup and we were 25/3 in that game. He scored a century by absorbing the pressure and won us the match.

Ganguly at the time when he played, the odi score was usually considered as good around 250. And this funny looking curly one is talking about run rates.
Sambit or Sanjay should have been in the panel instead of KK, for the simple reason that they actually know about the teams of the 90s , to atleast show some regard for guys in the late 80s and 90s like Ajay Jadeja. Sehwag was a much better batsman in Tests than in Odis. He was an underachiever in Odis and the records speak for themselves. Rohit and Sachin opening with Kohli coming at 3. And ganguly at 4

Pandya had a control percentage of 100% in that innings. Never has an innings of that strike rate had a control percentage of 100 over that long a period. It has a very real case of being the best CT innings at the very least.

Question to couple of younger panelists there... could you please define what is soft runs... If ganguly wouldn't have scored 100 after losing three early wickets against Kenya in world cup 2003 super six match were any "so called cricket experts" available in Newlands on that day to save India, or will you call 2001 triangular series in South Africa was soft series where SA bowlers feared Ganguly more than Tendulkar. You mentioned about Ganguly averaged around 25 against Australia. Ok fine. Will you consider the same argument while picking your test side for number 3 slot because against Australia Dravid avareges a moderate 38 and against one of the best first bowling attack of that era - SA he averaged merely 33 which according to your argument "soft average". If Cricket analysis was all about judging average and strike rates then I have very little to say here. My friend you go and look at Ganguly's records against SA (average 50+ for those who were discussing soft runs) , Srilanka, many power packed performances against Pakistan and brilliant performances in crunch knockout matches of almost all ICC tournaments barring 2003 WC final. And for your kind information Zimbabwe was more competitive ODI team in late 90's and early 2000's than today's Srilanka, WI and to some extent Pakistan. So please get your facts right before questioning a player's quality without whom any all time ODI Indian team is a joke. There were honourable mentions to many pacers and I think Bhuvi, if not considered in the 12 as much as Shami, ought to be given the mention he has had a great impact especially considering this the ODI format.
Everyone has their own opinions but this actually the best odi xi imo sachin & sehewag are important to open becoz sachin will be anchor and sehewag scores quick then rohit walks in to put partnership, kohli can score quickly in middle to late overs and yuvi can score quick from ball one, MS and Kapil are best finishers and the bowlers are fine
Sachin in the 90's was basically Sehwag, except probably more consistent. I don't think you need to define opener roles so specifically. Hayden and Gilchrist were both explosive openers and that worked out brilliantly. Sachin and Rohit can play both anchors and explosive opener roles.

You cannot leave out Rahul Dravid of an all time India Xl. Arguments by the panel are reasonable but still don’t justify leaving out of Rahul Dravid, period ! I dare say you can leave out either Rohit or Virendra, as they served best as openers and only one can open with Sachin. Therefore, making a case for Rahul Dravid at 4. Seriously again, can’t fathom leaving out Rahul Dravid. If talking about numbers we can have an in-depth look at his stats in ODI when it mattered.
I seriously cannot belive them. They always confuse with how they are selecting. I know it's tough to leave one of Rohit and Sehwag out but please understand combinations are also very very important. If Kohli is batting at 4, you are losing that guy who literally takes you home in every match chasing. As great as Rohit and Ganguly are as match winning openers, they haven't had the impact at 3 which kohli has had.

These people built a greatest India odi team without the man who made Indian team great. Ganguly took the team from 8th position to 2nd position in tests in just 5 years , Ganguly thought Indians how to win overseas. Under Ganguly all the match fixing shadow got cleared and he built a new formidable team.
Ganguly for the period of over ten years he played scored as many runs as Sachin. He is the fastest to 7k,8k,9k, beating Sachin Tendulkar and 2nd to 10k and 3rd to 11k runs at his time. That curly is not at all fit to have this conversation. Tell him to look at his offside shots, he is god.

Srinath always gets a raw deal. No one has bowled his heart as Srinath did. He remains India's highest wicket taker in ODI. Remember he bowled in 90s along with Kumble, when India had only two bowlers. Rest were just support system. To put Zaheer and others before him is preposterous. For Ganguly, he scored some monumental runs against Pakistan. No one treated Murli, at his prime, with disdain as Ganguly did. With Sachin, Ganguly made the best ODI opening combination in an era were teams had some of all time greats.
Sehwag, though capable enough, never played ODI and T20 innings as good as Saurav. He had no hundreds against Australia and South Africa, often failing in the said formats and there's hardly any need to talk about what Saurav did in his prime. His aerial hitting against the likes (not mentioning spin!) of Pollock, Wasim, Aqib Javed, Ntini, Vaas, Kallis and Klusner heralded the era we are witnessing now. Sehwag was phenomenal in Tests, and would probably open with Gavaskar, and Ganguly on the contrary would never make it to the Test 11. This screams the fact that people comparing Babar with Kohli are not different from these pundits influencing the picks here.

If Ganguly hadn't made 100 against kenya,India would have even lost against Kenya and inturn failing to make it into finals. Sachin,Sehwag all went into pavilion scoring 10s and 20s
Instead of puting rohit at a position where he never played , you guys could have put sachin at 4 and have rohit /sehwag to open together. Sachin has a great record at 4 compared to puting rohit at 3.
