1983 when this joint dropped. I was a senior in high school. My crew and me were DJing a party at the Boys Club Gym and I was singing it. I looked up and she was looking at me smiling. Her name was Sabrina and she was beautiful. I started singing to her and she was all in. We dated my near the end of my senior year. She even had a poster of my senior picture on her bedroom wall. When music was music and had meaning. Every time I hear this song I think about her. RIP Sabrina 🙏
This track was a totally unexpected surprise back in 1983, and very much the shizznitttt. Back then none of us gave a rip that it blatantly emulated and simulated the Prince sound so well; all we knew was that it was a cold azz slow jam. Respect and RIP to the Purple One.
If you are under the age of 40, you just don't know what this song would do to a house or a block party. From that first drum beat, you would go searching for that special person to get that slow dance with.
The new generation definitely don't know nothing about this one right here this song definitely reminds me of When I was growing up in Chicago I was 13 years old and I'm 53 years old now this song brings back memories ❤
70s baby still jamming this in 2024. The Dreamboy Station on Pandora is 🔥. Takes you back to so many other jams from this era as well. I only played two songs on this album. This one and “I Promise I Love You.” 🎶 I said baby I’m sorry for doing those things that I did 🎶
It's our fault as fans that music has taken a turn for the worse. We don't require musicians to put that heart-felt emotion into their music anymore. And it all began when people started using this line right here: "I don't listen to the words. I just like the beat."
The artist that do still sing with heartfelt emotions, the producers are not looking for that type of music theses days. I have notice all the music has the same type of sound and off beat rhythms. All electric instruments and everyone sings the same. They don't know how to play instruments and cannot hold a note at all, just short gibberish lame lyrics.
Daphne Martin Exactly. No vocal range. Hell, you even have r&b singers using autotune. Back then, you would have gotten chased out of the studio had you suggested that! I miss GOOD music.
Let a Cleveland, Oh brother enlighten all who just don't have a clue... first, this classic R&B group preceded RFTW about 2yrs. Coming straight out of Flint, Mi, they of course chose the popular Prince esque sound of that time: Do Me Baby/International Lover fusion. Is anybody paying attention? This was a main staple on 93 fm WZAK's For Lovers Only/Quiet Storm late night playlist.
This is my shiiiiit! This song would have you with tears and snot rolling down your face barely able to breathe. Lol! They don't make music like this anymore.
You got me laughing.... I remember when this song came out and I would often hear it be played on the radio during the "Quiet Storm" hours... What a great classic this is.... December 30th, 2014..
I had a girlfriend in 83 that I knew when I was younger in my teens,I was on top of the World because I finally had her when I was a Man 25years old,She would have me play this song over & over,I ordered this Album from New York,it's posted in my living room,Now I am (DreamBoy)on my G-mail,I still have my 1970s Afro,& The Ladies Man
Wow i miss Kiara....they made that song with Shanice. That was after H.S. but the other groups were during my H.S. days. The first 2 45s i bought were Time Will Reveal(DeBarge) and Joanna(Kool & The Gang).
When I was 17 years old this would play on the quiet Storm back in the days sometimes I miss when I was that young I'd had so much fun and being Romantic was a labor of life love and some serious heartbreak 💔💔💔💔💔💔💔💔

Oh Snap...I'm back in 1982-83...at a house party slow grooving with some young chick. In my right hand is the 40.oz. of Colt-45 still in the brown paper bag wrapped tight at the neck...Laughing...Holla' at me if know what talkin' about...How 'bout you Motor City The Electrofying Mo-Jo...If your still up go turn porch light on, if your in tub of water, splash it getting ready for The M.F.A....[ Midnight Funk Association.]
This '80s classic song was the BOMB! This jam was a constant staple in house parties in the projects on Francis St in Pittsburgh, PA. :-) Too bad those days are long gone...
the music today does not have the same passion. I remember this song so well! This was truly seduction music. I am a woman and believe me back in the day if a man would have played this, your woman wouldn't have gone anywhere believe that! lol
When I first heard this song I went a bought a Emerson boom box just met the most gorgeous girl ever being a poor boy from Mississippi getting to work my first real paying job doing construction work and this song put it all together with that young lady WOW WOW now I'm trying to download but can't find it any suggestions where God 🙏
Its a trip how we this came out we all here in L.A. thought it was Prince at first when actually he sounded more like Steve Arrington on a ballad...lol Steve was the man too mid 80's!
