Well well well... Scream as part of the Dystopia Series is meant to be a commentary against online hatred, malicious comments, cyber bullying etc. As shown in the beginning, one day people forgot how to say good things.. hence, in Scream, the imagery of an medieval traditional witch hunt (lyrics such as hands bound, stones thrown, burn under the fire etc, and choreography of surrounding someone pointing at a single person) is used to symbolized such online "witch hunt" which take place today where faceless anonymous people (theme of a mask used throughout the series) just post malicious comments and rumors just to hurt people and perhaps watch the world burn.
6:30 story of the girl with the mask: one of their members, Handong, was in China participating in a competition show, and also couldn’t return due to the pandemic. So during her absence they had another dancer fill in her spot in the choreography to represent Handong was still very much part of the group.
And she was so well aware of the power she held with that jacket... for instance, in the relay dance, she always made sure to go back to the end of the line off camera... she knew we wouldn't survive prolonged exposure!
The Dystopia trilogy is what really made me fall in love with Dreamcatcher. Styling, visuals, choreography, vocals, and that rock-inspired sound were already enough for me but then the lyrics and meaning behind each song just elevated them to another level for me.
Scream is part 1 of the Dystopia trilogy, which is about cyber-bullying, hateful comments and people losing themselves in the (fake) online world. It is mostly showing the victim's perspective of (cyber)bullying, comparing it to a medieval witch hunt. The tree is the tree of language, and it grows black fruit for every hurtful thing people say. Note also the hand gesture, it is the devil's horns introduced by Ronnie James Dio as a symbol for metal, but it originally was a gesture in the middle ages to ward off the evil eye, tying into the witch hunt theme.
glad you didn't mute your audio during the dance performance :D - don't worry about the rain or any bg noise, we can hear you fine :) the masked dancer was a placeholder for handong, their chinese member who was in china doing a tv show during the comeback. her return to korea was further delayed due to covid travel restrictions so she's also missing in the boca mv. she's been back since odd eye era. one thing to keep in mind when you are trying to figure out the meaning of a dc song is that they often use pop-culture references to help convey their themes. if you notice something, it's there on purpose to help you relate to the lyrics which are often abstract. for example the tree is used here to represent the internet with writings on its inner walls and roots which are portals. if you watch game of thrones, fans often compared the weirwood trees as basically the internet. so in this sense, they are not talking about hate in general but more specifically online hate.
Not sure if anyone commented avout it, but there's 1 girl with a mask because shes representing Handong, the member that was in China at the time they promoted this song. Thanks for reacting to Dreamcatcher!
Hey, just got here and I'm loving your DC reactions. And about the rain, we can hear it but that was just perfect background noise for Dreamcatcher....
This is the song I show to people that haven't heard of kpop or they have and didn't like it. Every thing from the song to mv to choreo is just amazing. Thanks for the reaction I really enjoyed it 👍 Btw keep in mind that "Boca" means mouth in Spanish and Portuguese I think in the next reaction your question would change to "who's the girl with pink hair"😂
3:49 it’s Siyeon, the blonde girl in Odd Eye if you remember. 9:25 that’s Yoohyeon, ✨my bias✨, she’s freaking gorgeous. 💜😭 Dreamcatcher dance videos are separate MVs basically ✨👌💜 Prepare yourself to watch Deja Vu after BOCA, because it’s THE masterpiece. Love your reactions. 💜
