Handong's jersey is actually 2 jerseys cut up and stitched together. They could either be football or hockey jerseys, or maybe one of each, I forget. On first listen, I was like "Huh?". As you mentioned, this is not a typical Dreamcatcher title track. I left it alone for about a day, listened again and thought that, even though it's different, it still had that Dreamcatcher core to it. Then I started reading comments to see what other people thought and learned the meaning behind the song. I listened again and it all clicked. It quickly grew on me after that. I still don't think it's one of their best title tracks, but it's a good song nonetheless. There's more that i could say but it seems others have beat me to the punch, again.

Here's a comment I made for another reactor a while back.... It's the surface level take that people are getting wrong and then they dip out without digging deeper... there's a lot going on in the MV and the lyrics. The moment people decide that it's just a flex song should have been the biggest hint if you missed other hints in the video or even the person falling over should have been a wait... what? moment. As you said this is not the type of lyrics that DC does, so people should have thought harder at that point on what exactly is the reason for the lyrics. DC makes social commentary in many of their songs. The album is them portraying VillainS when confidence gets pushed too far into Narcissism. It's a satire on some other groups brag songs (and a big reason why they lean into their version of those types of songs) getting their fans to want to be like them and spend money on things they can't afford in the attempts to do so. The person in the office is a fan (who was part of a whole alternate realty game on Twitter and elsewhere leading up to the release. People following that had an advantage in understanding that something much darker was going on here. Note all the Crowns in the MV as part of that. The crown is something people were following and trying to attain. This is used to recruit their "followers" which doesn't end well). The same fan is seen at the end of the video being knocked out / sacrificed / we don't fully know but she was lured in by them and the crown. An early line, "Gonna catch your attention then wait till you know" can be taken as a message to us. You'll get caught by the MV, but the more you watch and discuss with others, you'll begin to know what the song is really about and they'll wait for you to know. We're not seeing a DC MV. We're seeing an MV where they're playing parts as a typical Kpop group creating an MV. We see design, editing, visual effects, Handong fighting Yoohyeon, but cut and they're back to their real selves. Indicating that what you see in a finished product isn't necessarily reality. Looking closer at Handong in the beginning, her closeups being caught by the camera, look great but then it pulls out to show brusises all over her legs. JiU is in a box like she a doll / product. She calles herself Venus and Nephthys. Venus fits with it being a goddess of Beauty, but Nephthys is assocaited with Death and Decay. Dami "cursing and has the line "Don't you feel like a monster?" definitely indicates there's something darker going on here. The lyrics are purposefully like many pop songs where they just brag about how awesome they are, so priceless, so gorgeous, so flawless, so spotless... they're beyond your reach, showing off what fashion they have, products they own and won't you try and join them buy buying similar products. By they end you've been entranced and you're done for. DC is wearing their version of the more popularized music styles like they're showing off an Outfit of the Day. Putting out the same message with a traditional DC sound, just wouldn't have been nearly as effective becuase DC songs don't put out brag songs. The instrumentation itself even has dark foreboding progressions and as the lyrics clue us in as it goes on it becomes hypnotizing in the last parts. Some people, immediately dismissed as not a rock song and not a horror concept. As you mentioned it's still a rock vibe just with different instruments. This is still a horror concept, but more of a modern horror like something you'd see on an episode of Black Mirror dealing with horror concepts in a high tech world. So, if one just listed to the MV once, took it at face value and then didn't pay any more attention to it, then one completely missed out. "Gonna catch your attention then wait till you know"

At first glance you could think this is about them being proud and happy with themselves, about confidence. I don't think that is it though. The album is called VersuS VillainS, which makes me think it is not this simple. So I believe this song is meant as a criticism of narcissism, vanity, materialism and also (maybe) the fast fashion industry. "OOTD" stands for "Outfit of the Day" after all, maybe it's about useless instagram fashion-influencers posting videos of their outfit of the day, which also promotes fast fashion. The fact that fashion is moving ever faster makes it the most destructive industry to the planet only outdone by the fossil fuel industry. The Aral lake has all but disappeared because of the cotton industry for example. It would fit to the Villain image, and you can see in the MV that they are acting. It is shown in the scene where Yoohyeon and Handong are fighting, but then the camera is off and Handong helps Yoohyeon up. The main reason why I don't think it is about confidence or their own success is the line "Driving on the highway, drunken everyday, do you feel like a monster?" and the album title. That just doesn't fit. And there was the ymenehcra (arch enemy backwards) account posting about touching a crown is dangerous and other cryptic messages before the comeback. It could also be a big and well-hidden F*U to the Kpop industry, like the Nightmare arc probably was. The narcissism and materialism is definitely criticized here, and Dreamcatcher have been criticized a lot themselves because of their rock/metal concept, while other groups have been celebrated for using a guitar riff once in a song. And Handong standing in front of the camera with bruises all over her legs seems to be a comment on the merciless industry as well. The music is highly interesting as well. The Rock is dirty and distorted. The song structure is not what you'd expect at all, for me it is funk rock meets K-Pop. Not their usual spiel, but a very good progression. It takes a couple of listens to really appreciate it.

dreamcatcher \:D/ the song is satire targeting superficial aspects of society or even more specifically entertainment itself. if you are familiar with korean culture, it is very centered on appearance - fashion, makeup, even cosmetic surgery. it can be so extreme to a point people judge others solely based on appearance. there are other songs on the album that make it seem like the theme is 'beauty is dangerous' which is actually a line from another song. there's a lot of imagery how everything is manufactured. even the lyrics are contradictory - they are saying flawless but in one barbie scene handong is totally made up gorgeous from the waist up but has bruises all over her legs. as for the song, it's also the most 'mainstream kpop' looking and sounding so perhaps they are even taking a shot at the kpop industry itself. there was actually a lot of backlash among hardcore fans when ootd came out. some as you mentioned said it didn't sound like dreamcatcher. I also thought it was their worse title track but not because it sounded different but because it was the first song where their vocals throughout the entire song were altered in one way or another. that's something some groups in kpop do a lot but never for dreamcatcher and imo it just sounds awful. the company might have actually heard fans because for the follow up to ootd, they actually didn't use the same producers - producers known for their work with ateez. again since it's satire, everything could be intentional. 'justice' will be the final part of the two part series.

Very interesting and I think it is pretty cool of them if they are taking a shot at the industry. Thank You!

i didn’t like this song very much when it came out only because of the “ootd, this my fashion, shut up no more questions ” … but now it’s one of my favorite kpop songs just because of what a masterpiece the song really is and everyday i wake up angry they don’t release instrumentals anymore ha en god natt :)

OOTD was very divisive when it dropped. The while EP was really experimental, even for DC, who's always done a bunch of experimentation in their albums. Aside from the storyline reasons for the song and sound i think this was also so they could say "hey, we can do flex songs just like everyine else." I was pretty mixed on the song when it dropped but it grew on me pretty quickly, especially when i started to wrap my head aroung the lore and concept. Also the none MV version is better since it doesnt have the 4th wall break going into Damis verse. You've gotten a bunch of explainers already on the lore so i wont address that.

Yeah I like the concept, I’m gonna listen some more and maybe I’ll start to like it. I believe DC can do flex songs but I love how they did it their way. Thanks for sharing.

@@KuLaLisa actually, while we're on the topic of BP. Yoohyeon did a cover of Rose's on the ground and Jiu did Jennie's solo (minus the rap) at their midnight circus online Halloween concert. The YT channel "alges da" has the full concert broken out by song.
