@@tjb2007 I remember seeing them on Jimmy Kimmel. The drummer played the piano parts with his left hand while he was still playing the drums. Blew my mind
They're awesome humans, on top of that. I was lucky to meet and eat with them before a show in Houston about 10 years ago. Really down to earth and friendly dudes. We shared Chinese and then they walked me into the venue with them so I wouldn't have to wait in line :)
Pay no attention to the man in the corner. The GOD LEVEL drummer that not only drives the track, but plays a piano WHILE DRUMMING. And watch while he breaks a stick during the shoot, dumps it, and keeps time. Dino Campanella is next level mastery.
I saw Dredg open for the Deftones in 2002. Had no idea who they were (was there for Deftones). They blew my mind with a 40 minute set. Became an instant fan. Still listening in 2022. Such a beautiful band.
My friend from Seattle (I'm from Russia, now I live in Japan) tried to instill in me a love for Dredg back in the early 2000s. Unfortunately, my friend died early in a car accident, so he didn't find out that later I fell in love with the band anyway. And I'm so sorry that he didn't hear their next songs.
I listened to this song for the first time 12 years ago. Back in the day i didn't understood the lyrics, but the music felt like a nostalgia knife going directly into my soul. Now that im 33 years, i really think the lyrics fit into me. Dredg makes me think about my life. This first verse is like a mirror to me: Bring back those good old days Nothing feels right, nothing ever goes my way I threw my future away Now I'll walk alone, out here in the cold Wandering astray Where's my future? Thanks Dredg, for creating music that brings me back to those good old days every time i listen to it. Please, come to Mexico before my departure from the earth...
Omg, first time I had listened Dredg in 2009.I didn't understand even a word because i did not know English but I had a feeling that that was important music. Nowadays I listen to Dredg and I have a similar feeling of nostalgia you wrote😄 Maybe it's because both of us from the same generation, I am 31🤔😄
I'm 39 and understand the lyrics completely back then which made each song more meaningful. It still hits the same because in life you constantly make mistakes. Best wishes
Leitmotif saved me. It was a long time ago...the band was young...but i enailed you boys about hiw much if an inpact that albumn....and the story you wrote with it meant to me. You guys wrote me me back... I love you all
WTF ! I remember listening to this is as a deeply troubled teen in 2008 to spend the next 10 years with an eating disorder and major depression . Every line hits me to the core. I’m finally crawling out of the grave the conditions left me in now . It’s like this song echoed the last 15 years of my life. “I wasted all this time”. My god, I feel that in my bones. Who CANNOT RELATE?!!!
Hopefully some time in the future you will Look Back at your hard times and not consider them wasted. I know, dealing with mental health problems is hard work and makes you feel separated from anyone else who is living a "normal" life. But there are so many of us fighting with these topics every day. You're not alone. You're too good for giving up!
My best friend introduced me to dredg many years ago. He died of a drug overdose so this band holds a very special place in my heart, especially because of the basis of a lot of their lyrics. I just wish they would have found some more success because they sure as hell deserved it.
I can relate to you man! I'm the one that introduced this band to many friends. Me and Ed would chill in my car an listen to their music for hours. He died in 2016 from an overdose, and I miss the conversations we would have about the deeper meaning of their music. It's just so haunting. RIP buddy.
My best friend introduced me to this band in 2001. This album wasn't even out yet. My friend has an amazingly successful life and I'm the loser, days away from dying on the street from alcoholism. Go figure.
Bring back those good ol' days Nothing feels right Nothing ever goes my way I threw my future away Now I walk alone Out here in the cold Wandering astray Where's my future? I'm gonna need a home You'd expect the same, now wouldn't you, wouldn't you? Your journey back to birth its haunting you it's haunting you Your departure from the earth, its haunting you, it's haunting you Only those who accept will find that acceptance in return We have been trimmed down like hedges, and told just to sit, And wilt, and spit at each other from a distance With constant resistance from you Gonna need a home You'd expect the same now wouldn't you, wouldn't you? Your journey back to birth is haunting you, it's haunting you Your departure from the earth is haunting you, it's haunting you It's been ten years strong, thats much too long It's time to do something good for myself Time to do somethin' good for my health It's been ten years strong, thats much too long It's time to do something good for myself Time to do somethin' good for my health I've wasted all this time, I've wasted all this time Your journey back to birth is haunting you, it's haunting you You departure from the earth is haunting you, it's haunting you Your journey back to birth is haunting you, it's haunting you Your departure from the earth is haunting you, it's haunting you
I use to sing this with my friends on the way to and from the club in 2005 through to 2010. The circle of friends I had then had a family-like quality to it. I was 23 years old. I was always an outsider in highschool. It wasn't until I met these people did I truly belong. And those five years were a crazy ride. Real friendships dont last forever. The real friends dont expect you to stick around with them, and it'll feel like no time has passed at all the next time you see them. Crazy how time changes your perspective but not how you feel with those people in your mind. I'm so lucky to have this musical wormhole to those car rides with them. Full car home every time. Driving through Melbourne at 5 in the morning, dead streets, sun just about to pop. People always needed a lift home and I never drank so I'd have 6 people jammed together in the back. Sometimes one would have to go in the boot. It was this and Karnivool. Use to get everybody home safe and half of them would always pass out before I got them home. I'm rambling, but its canned nostalgia ffs. Hard not to. This album is golden.
What an amazing message in-store you have shared my friend! I feel the same about the song and I played it nonstop for many years going off martial arts classes to instruct my students and driving home with a full heart and tired muscles afterwards. But this song carried my soul on the journey to my destinations and home safely. I am listening to the song today and is a tradition for myself to listen to it every birthday since it had come out in 2004. And I take this song as a great reminder of what life is and what we must cherish it as is. I hope that you hold onto your memories with your friends if you had years ago because the time goes by way too quickly!
I don't usually comment at all but I have to. Found these guys at 3am on a public access channel performing. I went out and bought Catch Without Arms and still today listen to this entire album at least once a week. I cannot think of another band more underrated and under appreciated as this band. What a voice, what awesome drummer and bassist. When I bought the CD back in the day it was in the $1 bin at Amoeba in LA. Which leads to believe their label failed them miserably.
This has been my birthday week and this song has been ringing in my head and I haven't had a chance to play it due to work commitments and being mentally exhausted to enjoy and cherish the sounds to move my heart. This song I hold near to my heart from the message I have interpreted as being the awakening of the true self and seeing what life is about and what is most important to find connection. Sadly, life passes us so quickly and we lose the focus of the journey and to enjoy the innocence and celebration of the greatest gift we ever have, life. At times life is very difficult and challenging, but it is up to us to embrace change and to make this journey a blessed one and to ensure that we find happiness and attainment, even if we are alone. This new year of my life I will focus on my personal connection for growth on all arenas, omit negativity, and to find the blessings in each day to celebrate and enjoy to make my circle happy and balanced to influence others. Blessings to the band Dredg, and to whomever reads this first post of my new year of life to celebrate.
Oh my gosh, it's been so long. I remember falling in love with this song. But am I the only one who notices how Dino (the drummer) throws a drum stick whilst playing, then continues like a mother fucking badass @ 03:36~
if you see his interview, he says he smashes 6 to 12 sticks per session! So he has to keep spares nearby and grab new ones very quickly to remain consistent with the groove. Normally I don't like too much heavy drummers, and he's insanely heavy on the drums, but somehow his style IS dredg, and nothing different could fit.
Dino is one of my favorite drummers. That guy tears it up. I love at 3:38 when he throws his stick. He does that in concert all the time. He must go through like 20 sticks. More for us fans I guess! Dredg Rocks!
The best memories of my life were made to this album. I wrote to Drew on MySpace once & he posted me some Dredg merch & one of the little slide guitars to give to my boyfriend at the time who was the biggest Dredg fan. They are such a generous bunch of guys & such gifted writers/players. Xx
Всплыла в памяти мелодия этой песни. Искала эту песню 4 дня. Не могла вспомнить ни названия песни, ни названия группы. Даже не понимаю, как ее в итоге нашла, магия какая-то 💫✨✨✨✨✨✨✨
I gotta thank Spotify for turning me to these obscure, hidden, and severely underrated rock tracks. Like "Black Mourning" by Pure Reason Revolution, "In Dreams" by Esoterica, and this one.
Just an all around beautiful song...and a very talented band. I can't believe it's been this many years since this song and they haven't became HUGE yet!!! So much talent...what's wrong with the world?!?!!
26 year old here and I've just discovered this gem through my favorite tattoo artists - and I am really glad that I did. Instant appreciation of these guys and what they created - I fell in love first time listening to it - just jamming full album... what a way to end this year and start a new one.
I know right?!?!?! I am a guitarist, been playing 22 years. This is one of the best rock songs ever. I am very critical of song structure and especially how bass and drums play together. This song is flawless. An absolute clinic on how a exquisite rock song is pieced together for sure. Gavin Hayes is the quintessentially perfect rock singer I always wanted in my band. It breaks my heart that I never found him.
I'm turing 30 tomorrow. Something I've been doing a lot lately is projecting by trying to better understand the origins of characteristics exhibited by the people around me. Trying to figure myself out too. Definitely feel like I've wasted the last decade of my life.
Brushstroke Don't let it discourage you....we all reach that point when we're convinced we've had it wrong all along. But that's one of the many hidden gems in life....realizing that there is a better way, and putting forth that determination to do it right and to be the best version of ourselves the second time around.
Is no "second time around." Only successive stages we pass through once. Whether or not there's a "right" way to do it outside of committing harm to anyone, is best left to another discussion.
Something I've been trying to do lately is post deep, retrospective comments on old videos to get likes. Because what strangers think is really important to me.
@@McSaggerson same happening to a lot of people same experiences but different stories that's why we are humans I guess so similar and completely different at the same time
I am 32 - The last decade went by very fast, and it seems like each year is going back faster and faster. Psychologists say that has to do with the lack of "new discovery' that we experience as children. When we are young, the world is full of new and novel things to do all of the time. It slows time down... even though the saying "time flies when you are having fun" it seems in reality, it is the bland monotonous day to day life in adulthood that makes time go by faster and less memorable. It seems we need to strive for new experiences and new challenges.
Man these guys are amazing. Underrated is right. I used to listen to these guys all the time back in the day. Never watched the video until now. Never realized how amazing that drummer is...
I had to celebrate my fifteen year anniversary of my first listen to dredg (and Catch Without Arms) by going on a nice sunset walk yesterday and just delving into all of those old memories and emotions with their music. That album defined 2005-2006 for me. I actually overplayed it through the 2000s, so I only dust it off now for special occasions. Maybe once every year or two. Just a fantastically immaculate record. Ditto with Leitmotif and El Cielo.
Been listening to this song since before the album came out...i have to say it one of the best songs ive ever heard and im still listening. This really does need like 10 million views, so everyone lets help them out, lets spread the word.
I remember stumbling across this marvelous song on IMF back in 2005 after enduring a barrage of uninspiring music videos. This was the first dredg song I ever heard, and little did I know they would become my all time favorite band.
I've been searching for it long since I watched the movie "Stealth", in which this song was provided as one of its soundtracks, and the melody impressed me a lot more than the movie itself. I re-watched the movie to the last for seeing the name of this song appear in the list of songs used in the movie, but couldn't get which was which. I just kept the melody in mind and quit searching for it. After several years, when poking around in RU-vid looking for some 2000's rock, I met again this song by accident! Thank you for uploading!!
Takaoni 706 / It's soo awesome how you came to know this band from this movie. They are an awesome band. The album that this song is from is absolute platinum in the rock music stratosphere. This is my favorite rock song. This and Everlong.
Awesome, I worked at a movie theater at the time Stealth came out and this would play during the credits and that's hot I got hooked (never saw stealth lol) we also played it during movietunes as well in the lobby.
"I threw my future away, now, I walk alone Out here in the cold wanderin' astray Where's my future? Gonna need a home You'd expect the same Now, wouldn't you, wouldn't you?"...
I love the guitar rift and effects they use in this song. It's unfortunate I never heard of this song until a few days ago. I would've thought a song as good as this would've gotten more play time on the radio.
When I listen to this song I try thinking which part I like the best...... and I find it impossible. The lyrics cannot be described, I guess simply amazing is the best. The drumming is on another level, while at the same time playing piano! The guitar is both hard rock and alt rock. It makes me wanna rock out while also make me think about relaxing with a j. Lastly the bass is at first almost flea-esk then goes all hard rock toward the end. I like all music and have many favorite songs but this is in the top 10 for me.
dig this track, i love the tempo changes, the verse is very busy, the bridge is the quiet before the storm, and the chorus is half speed and hard, nicely put together
rbeforme it actually does, it changes to and from double time during the verse segments of the song. so if the chorus is a 73bpm the verse is actually 146bpm. meaning the same amount of time passes but the number of beats has doubled.
you are thinking about it wrong, 4 is still part of 8. i can count out every two beats and get 4. its actually quite common in music to speed up the song by doubling its tempo. its in 1000's of popular songs from every genre.
The tempo is the same through the whole track. They are just change from half time to full time, but thats the beauty of rhythm! Tempo changes are a different thing again
I just discovered this brand today as I was encouraging friends to leave me music on my Facebook wall. This was a great introduction, and I subscribed to the bands page before this song was halfway through. I trusted this friend's taste in music because he is a singer just like myself, so lyrics are truly important, and the music gives it balance.

Their best song, above all others. I just can't hold all the feelings. Oh, Gavin.
Been 10 years since I’ve heard this song. I remember my brother telling me to listen to this song. I can’t believe it’s been 10 years. Time goes by so fast. An amazing song from the most underrated bands ever
Saw them at the social in orlando .. maybe about 17 years ago? I followed them for years before that. The drummer cut ahead of the line to the bathroom at the time I was pissed but it was all good. Some of the best times of my life were revolved around listening to them. Mad love.
