This video makes you see what was really happening inside the tool and gave the idea of what to do. Just as a reference because it is not said in the video, to take that external cover out, you have to unscrew 3 things; 2 close to the power cord, and one hidden under a circle the dremel decal. After that step, and checking up the carbons, you have to check the black plastic box electric switch and then LUBRICATE the plastic hole that is moved under by the external switch. That was helpful and my dremel worked back again. Thank you michaeljp86
My 6300 went into a coma a couple of days ago. Your video helped resuscitate it. I just used a dab of hot glue to increase pressure on the switch. Seems to work fine now. THANKS.
My two year old quit. Did exactly what you did except used 5 small strips of duck tape and layered them over the post. Re-assembled and it works just fine. Thanks for making the video.
I haven't tried it yet, but I'm pretty confident this will fix my Multi-Max. I'm really glad I decided to check RU-vid for a fix before tossing my Multi-Max. The reason I feel confident about this fix is because after watching the video and how simple the fix is, I tried squeezing the handle of the Multi-Max about the same area where the tower-to-switch connection is, with the external power switch turned on, and it starts to run. Yeah! Thanks in advance MichaelJP86.
Thankyou, thankyou, thankyou, I went to move my tools the other day and noticed that my Dremel case was half full of water. I still haven't figured that out yet. After drying out my tool... I tried it and it didn't work. Thought for sure I was looking at dropping another $100 plus. It turned out that I had the same problem as you and that it was the switch. Put a little electrical tape on the tip and we're back in business. I have no clue what the unit getting wet had to do with my problem but it working fine now. Thanks again.
Perfect. Used a spot of 5 minute epoxy mixed with cornstarch as a putty on the retaining post, waited until it was stiff , and put the motor housing cover on with switch in the on position. Verified it worked and put switch in off position to allow final hardening. Thanks!
Thank You so much! I was about to trash my dremel for this exact problem in place of a Bosch! Your fix worked great!! Now I can hold off and keep using my Dremel!
Dude, spot on!! That was it--good eye on that tiny switch. I fixed it with two layers of duct tape on top of the switch. The entire tool becomes inoperative due to a tiny plastic tooth 1/4 size of a grain of rice?? Really Dreml??!! I sent them an email to this affect. Again, thanks so much.
Thanks for a simple solution! I just dismantled my MultiMax. It seems that the switch is a very common problem. Follow-up: After testing the switch as you showed, I determined that the speed control appears to be my problem.
That's it buddy. Thanks for posting this video. I pulled my switch, cleaned the whole inside with electric parts cleaner and it's good. Maybe using a bit of glue to hold the switch in place will help?
Thanks for sharing. You pinpointed the problem that will affect them all eventually as that tiny piece of plastic in the switch wears down. After repair it will eventually wear down further and then the switch will need to be replaced. I used a drop from my glue gun on the "pillar".
Thank You! Had to fix my switch also. It seems mine had just loosened up from where it was suppose to be, causing it to turn on amd off randomly. Your Video Helped. Thanks Again!!!! 👍
Nice job Mine just quit on me today. Same exact symptom. I shut it off and that was it. Won't turn on again. Looks like an easy fix. I'll open mine up tomorrow. Did it look possible to shim the switch up instead of gluing that piece on the pedestal? How long did your fix last? For the amount I've used mine over the last several years it really should not have failed. Shame on you Dremel.
Found my switch is bad. Switch was clicking but still not passing current. Jumping the wires confirmed this. I got my switch working again by blasting some electronics cleaner into the switch plunger area. Cycled it numerous times and it is now working again. I don't expect it to last though. I will try to source a new switch.
I attempted to fix before watching this video wish I did. Started with a frayed cord showing the copper wiring but still worked. Liquid taped the wires and electric taped it up didn’t work. Took it apart missed the bottom screw under sticker and tried prying it until. Cut the cord hoping to splice it back, but now I’m getting nothing. Tried overriding the switch with direct power so may be I burnt it out? Any help on troubleshooting the electric fail would be appreciated but starting to think I just need to buy a new one.... thanks
Not the case with mine. What a let down. mine also about two years old. Don't think I will trust dremel any more. Third dremel product bought, used properly and they still ended up as junk. Very disappointed.
OdinsCloud a simple switch needs such a complicated design? i wouldnt think so. but on the plus side i still use this tool today and never had any more trouble.
