Helen , I think it would be really lovely to see the outfits that you wore for your children s weddings , That’s how much we all feel we are your friends ❤
Last wedding I went to was hubby's brother, a much delayed post-lockdown wedding. I don't like buying the kind of dresses that can only be worn for an occasion, as I don't ever wear them and it feels like a waste of money. So I chose a navy embroidered Monsoon maxi dress that was pretty enough to dress up with a hat and wedges, but then could be worn again more casually - it even looks good with trainers and a denim jacket! My top tip - make sure your feet are comfy or the day will be hell! I never normally wear heels, so the wedges came off as soon as the meal was over, to be replaced with navy Birkenstocks. ❤
My favourites were the first pink one, and the green and pink floral. In June 2022 I went to my niece's wedding wearing a feminine floaty calf length dress in shades of blue/white/dove grey with a little fitted ice blue hip length 3/4 sleeve jacket I found in Dr. Barnardos for an amazing £10. It was like new, probably once worn by someone else for an occasion. It fitted and suited me perfectly, so I congratulated myself on finding it and not spending a fortune 😁
Helen, you're so right about checking the sale rack. My son's wedding was the most high - end, fancy, held on New Years Eve in the city wedding of my three children and it was sale rack big discount! I loved it! Also, I love the beautiful hats you British ladies wear......so chic! You don't see that much in the States.......unless you're at the Kentucky Derby! Great video. You looked fantastic in all the dresses! ❤😊Kathy from Pennsylvania USA
A gorgeous selection of dresses.my daughter is engaged no date set yet.I was grateful for all your hints and tips.every woman needs a bestie like you Helen.
Thanks for all ur hard work,Helen and all the nuggets of experience.Adored the black spotted dress.the green and pink floral was fab on..loved the shoes u got in John Lewis.Your friends and family are so lucky to have you..I'm sure Rob is very proud to have you on his arm
❤I ALWAYS appreciate videos on this topic--the vast majority of us have little to no experience with special occasions, the frequency of which occur so rarely that you even question if what was fashionable before is still being done! Your little tips about posing for pictures and for making sure your outfit works when you are seated are useful from a practical stand point. And, by sharing your tip about the airbrush spray tan for your legs, you are also conveying that it is acceptable to forego stockings or pantyhose, so, that’s doubly useful! Thank you so much!❤
@@Helenmaryjo I live in Southern California and don’t own pantyhose or tights but it’s always a challenge trying to figure out what other regions of the country are doing! I attended a formal wedding in New York City a couple of years ago and got soooo many different opinions--there was no concensus on what was acceptable or expected!
I can't tell you how pleased I am that you've done this video Helen. I will be mother of the groom this year. I have to admit, I'm feeling rather anxious due to my disability & recently losing my hair. I love the Phase Eight dress. You look beautiful in them all. Thank you for sharing your experiences & top tips. I really do appreciate your videos. Thank you ❤x
Thank you, I'm glad you enjoyed it. Please don't feel anxious, the main thing is that you are there and a big smile covers a multitude. It can't be easy but your son will love and appreciate you. Wear something pretty and I'm sure you'll look a million dollars xx
You’re so right Helen, relax and enjoy the day, that’s absolutely the best I advise. I stressed out completely when my daughter got married and really regret it. There was no need, like you said, it’s about looking after your guests and ensuring that they are looked after. You looked really classy in the black spotted dress and fascinator, you really carry off the dress outfits with your gorgeous grey hair. You give me hair envy ! X
Thank you for sharing Helen. I am Mother of the Groom in July & was DREADING looking for an outfit as I’m 5 ft 1” & a wee bit round, so a lot of the usual type of these outfits do nothing for me. However, I’m wearing a beautiful Needle & Thread dress, fab big hatinator, Emmy London kitten heels & tiny Strathberry top handle bag - I’m now so excited to get it all on! Will be taking onboard your standing & sitting tips!
You looked fabulous in every one of those dresses. I love listening to you talk, so matter of fact and reassuring. I too would like to see your dresses you wore for your children’s weddings. You always look so stylish even in your tracksuit when you changed at the end of the video. Always look forward to your next one. Thank you for keeping us entertained xx
Hi Helen I am from Liverpool and I am 59 in a couple weeks 🥴 I just like to say the ladies / girls of Liverpool absolutely love to dress up for ANY OCCASION 😂 as you may know we have Aintree races here and WOW that really is an occasion to dress up but like I say every weekend in Town there are stunningly dressed ladies ( and men ) love you channel also 👍❤️
Thankyou Helen what a lot of effort you put into this video, and you accessorised perfectly ! Much appreciated, loved the pink floral dress the best. 😊
All lovely Helen and very beautiful on you. Love the hats. You went to so much work on putting everything together. Yes would love to see the dresses from the kids weddings!! Thanks Helen 💕
Great video Helen, all the dresses are just lovely and you looked really good in all of them. Great tip about striking a pose , I will remember that one 😊 .
Thank you Helen, you are so generous with your time and all the hints and tips. You looked amazing in all the outfits 🩷The advice about the standing pose was so useful, we can all use that for anybody occasion! Thank you x
You were spot on about wearing a slip/petticoat under a dress. The outer dress slides and hides. Women look so lumpy without a slip, especially when you have a tummy. It really is a magic layer.
Helen, I loved the black polka dot and the faux leather! They all were beautiful and I liked them. I am 75 this year and don’t show my wobbly arms any more. We live in Northern California and Oregon and I have spent quite a lot of time in the UK over the last 20 years, mostly in Scotland. I wish I had seen this vid last month, as our daughter was honored for her accomplishments in her field of work and it was a big fancy do! I thought I’d have a breakdown trying to find an outfit! It turned out alright but…..oh the journey!! Your helpful tips would have saved me !!
Loved all the dresses except the ‘snug fitting’ one and my favourite was the Ghost one. I would be happy to wear that on a cruise one evening. My mum taught me to pose - I can still hear her words - Step one foot forward, lean back a little slightly turning to the side, show just one arm and smile. I practised for hours, somewhat self consciously, but as you say - it pays off. She also said - make the best of what you have been well blessed with! Lovely video. I had three sons so wasn’t too involved with weddings but thoroughly enjoyed myself!xx Liz
Hi Helen, I loved the Pink and Green dress lovely for a summer wedding. I well remember my daughters wedding it was in July and it was very hot, the wedding was absolutely fabulous everything went off smoothly she had her reception at The Bull Hotel in Gerrads Cross the hotel went out of their way to make the day a complete success, we stayed the night at the hotel and took the bride and groom to Heathrow Airport because they were spending their honeymoon in Malta. We often look back at the video of the wedding I was very slim then a size 14 and my outfit was in pale Green with pearl beige shoes and clutch bag and my hat was also in a pearly beige. What memories.❤️❤️❤️
HB top tip at just the right time. I’m doing an emergency bag for me! I’m going to be caught posing in the next few weeks. Loved the pink dress fabulous with your hair.xx
You looked lovely in all the dresses Helen, you certainly have the knack of choosing dresses to fit the occasion and ones that really suit you. Also thank you for the hints and tips, I will try and remember how I’m supposed to stand to look better.
Loved all the dresses. 👍👍Really beautiful 👌😘you looked amazing in them all !! My favourite by far was the floral one with pleated skirt , it was gorgeous 💕. Fabulous tips too Helen , extremely helpful !!
That’s good advice for life in general. Be determined to enjoy it. I like that. We get so involved in the stressful aspects that we forget that enjoying life is the most important thing. If we don’t enjoy it, everything else is pretty pointless.
Helen you carry off dresses so well. I couldn’t fault any of them on you. Wish I'd known the standing tip in 2019. I was MoB and when I look at the photos now I know that tip would’ve made all the difference. After lots of searching I finally ended up going with a sort of lavender colour lace dress and short jacket which I was really pleased with. I thought it went well with the now white hair! One tip for other ladies. I wore a very nice fascinator. Quite a small one because I'm barely 5 ft and would be lost under a big one BUT I also wore a corsage. Big mistake. One or the other! Looking back now it makes me look like I was fresh in from the South Sea Islands!! 😂
Helen - off topic.....thanks for the ELF eyeshadow tip. I bought two different ones and it's a FAB little palette. Even my daughter - a self proclaimed make up expert was impressed....;) adore that pink flowery dress, so so pretty
Hi Helen, look forward to all of your video's, but this one was extra special. You put a lot of work into it, you looked lovely in all of the outfits, I loved the the first pink one. It looked comfortable and elegant, but all the outfits had a lot going for them. Thankyou for the tips. Xxxx
Hi Helen. English weddings are often more formal than Greek ones especially with the wearing of fascinators and hats. You looked very lovely in all the outfits and gave some helpful advice. 💗
Hi Helen, all the dresses were lovely, thanks for showing them. I loved the dress which had the black top and black pink skirt, especially the pockets. All the best xx
I loved the first pink dress - very nice. Our daughter gets married in Greece in June 24. I haven’t got my dress yet, I don’t want to look like mother of the bride!! Hoping to come to London to look! Xxx
I can’t thank you enough for the recommendation for Calla Shoes. I have bought pairs of court shoes and they are a game changer. You really suit cross over tops
Wow Helen this was such a good video. I want to get dressed up and go to a wedding now😆 The hints and tips were so useful.I liked and would wear every single outfit you presented to us. Thank you for sharing this with us all.😊
This is a lovely video. You look so glamorous in all the outfits but my fav was the 1st pink dress from Chessca, also the pleated pleather skirt. Lots of great tips x
Hi Helen wonderful video I liked all the outfits and how you dressed them up. The T & T comment made me laugh I use to dance and our dance teacher often use to say that 😂🤣 Some many useful tips from you thank you 🥰 really enjoyed it x
Good evening Helen, thank you for being real. What a relaxing comfortable watch. The first dress is my favourite. I have learned so much. Will search for airbrush tan here in Cape Town, a must have. 😊
3 and 3 were my personal favourites maybe because they’re a bit of me. I loved the high low hem in the black and jacquard dress and of course the pockets are a great addition and the phase eight leather skirt dress I would love for a winter or late autumn early spring dress. You suited all the dresses barring the last one which I think is a difficult shape to wear for anyone ❤❤
Thank you for that Helen. My daughter is getting married in April so that was really useful. I have my dress but still looking for a hatinator. Such a good tip to practice your pose x
So Helen a very good video. There is something for all "bridzillas", that get crazy for a faulty something. All the dresses were so beautiful. Especially the flowery one. I have had 4 weddings with our children, now 2 divorced, so perhaps a new wedding in the future. Thank you for letting us dream for a while. ❤
Fantastic informative vlog, you looked fabulous in the outfits and great advise given on how to wear them with accessories and how to stand when getting photos taken. Like another lady said, I would love to see you in the outfits you have worn for your families wedding, the sounded fabulous xx
Hi Helen. My favourite outfit on you was the first cerise pink . Beautiful! The best tip for me was the T&T posing !!! My Granddaughter got married last September. Pity I didn't watch this before that wonderful occasion!! Will remember it for the future . Thanks again. Great video . The other tip you have given in the past is putting a spare pair of comfy shoes in a gift bag . So as not to spoil the look of the outfit.
Lovely outfits Helen, thanks for going the ‘extra mile’ with the accessories. Makes such a difference! We can plan down to the nth degree for a wedding but can’t plan for the independent florist shop to receive an unexpected team visit from the VAT tax inspectors on the wedding morning and reduced her to a quivering wreck. I had to go and help make up the wedding bouquets 2 hours before the church service😮 Also doesn’t help when an unknown boyfriend of a close family member turns up unexpectedly & expects to have a place at the fine-tuned seated reception. Thirdly, can’t plan for the photographer’s husband to suddenly have a fatal heart attack the evening before the wedding. Photographer can’t find anyone suitable to stand in at the last minute so bravely decides to carry on herself. We found her sobbing on the church steps. All happened at my ‘very well planned’ daughter’s wedding!!
Oh my goodness!!!! What a nightmare, just shows, best made plans and all that. I can't imagine how stressful that would be. We've had a few 'incidents' at weddings too, but I think you beat mine! xx
Thank you Helen, lovely dresses. I particularly like the black ghost (probably wouldn’t wear at a wedding but gorgeous) and the faux black skirt and white blouse, the fabric looks luxurious. My daughter is getting married in May and so your tips and tricks are much appreciated 😍. A great video!
Thank you so much for doing this video! I’ve got two family weddings to go to this year, not as mother of the principles, but nevertheless, I need to look good! Fantastic timing for me!! ❤️
Hi Helen I’ve had a really stressful week n came up to clear my bed of laundry n do a tidy ,dreading it a bit ? N when I turn on the iPad n saw what you were doing I was soo thrilled ,got it done n turned you on .Really enjoyed it I love fashion anyway n as I said before I’m the same size as yourself but 5 ft .Great tips as always thank you for this it’s cheered me up ,looking forward to your next one .take care Helen XX Collette
Just love your vlogs . Love your sense of humour. Beautiful dresses great ideas. Thank you Going on a cruise so looking for some nice ones Some great ideas. ❤
Lovely collection of dresses Helen. Your accessories went well with them all. I was one of the ladies that was quite stressed out at both my daughter's and sons wedding and looking back now ( like you said) we conjure up in our minds how everything should be, but at the end of the day the guests are there to just enjoy themselves not to be looking at every detail that we conjure up in our minds how things should look. RELAX....ENJOY. xx TTFN
The black and white dress with the black and white hat is gorgeous just perfect. I think the floral pink dress is lovely too. Such a nice video thank you.xx Such good advice as well.
A lovely try on beautiful outfits, and some great tips, I remember going to a wedding and had new shoes and didn’t wear them before and my feet were killing me all day, it spoilt my day x
That was such a great video, Helen. Thank you so much for putting that all together with your wonderful tips! My favorite was the one with the faux leather pleated skirt. Very versatile for other occasions as well. Blessings from California XXX Maryfrances
What a great video, really loved seeing all those lovely outfits,my absolute favourite was the black dress with the patterned skirt, you looked stunning in that, thanks so much,T and T Helen 😂😂😂😂
What a great and useful video Helen thank you. I loved the black and white spotted dress but you looked great in everything. I would love to see any photos of the outfits you wore at your childrens weddings.
