Fucking insane. I can only imagine the amount of adrenaline he had flowing through him as the ball cracked off his bat and he looked up at the packed house going bonkers.
Texas A&M had a walk off grand slam against West Virginia a couple years ago that was 3-2 2 outs bottom of the ninth down by 3. Also A&M was down like 10-1 at one point
It really is. I hit a grandslam in our college state tourney, and after realizing what it meant, I got a little emotional. Good thing I held it together, because we were still down 9-7. The best part of it, was calling my girlfriend back home, and her asking me if I had hit a grandslam. She had heard it on the local news. Big time. LOL
Poor guy threw a 70mph hanging curveball. Yeah that’s getting smoked 10/10 times (edit) checked back randomly almost a year later and got a lot of love on my post. That grand slam is a highlight of Gilbert’s college career for sure!
If you ever experience that for yourself, it DOES bring a tear. I've done that twice in my life. Choking up is all a part of it, especially after the adrenaline dump.
This was the most insane sports moment I’ve ever been a part of. Beer was flying EVERYWHERE. After walking back to the truck at the AG lot, I rode home tearing up for the entire 20 minute drive.
I remember seeing this and being absolutely devastated because I was voting for Wright State, but looking back on it now, it was a great play by Tennessee
In hockey I lost a championship once in overtime an I'm the goalie it was a pretty big tournament, I snapped my stick with one swing one handed an a scout said you played really well but that wasn't good sportsmanship 🤣💀 2 loses one day for me
yeah you were killing up 5-8, and with a hit, & 2 walks with a pitcher who's struggling, the idea floats into your head and you pray for this not to happen. I cant imagine how the pitcher felt. Probably will have the yips for life now. But drew gilbert did exactly what anyone would do. I am jealous. And I know all his teammates wish they were the ones to hit it.. even though they were just glad to get the W.
A lot of people can relate to that bottom of the ninth Grand slam dream feeling.. But most of us did it in our backyard playing ball by ourselves... Congrats man nice rip
Ehh, depends on what kind of major league career we’re talking about.. a solid 10 years with full pension and benefits after retirement? Gotta take that every time.. anything less, I’m probably with you!
He caught it really well. Notice how his head doesn't move until after the ball has left his bat. Head still, hips come through, bat follows. Helped that it was a hanging curve on 0-1. Well done Tennessee on a 9-8 win in the opening round. Gilbert the hero at the 11th hour.
he caught it well because he was sitting on it. You got to expect, in a D1 game, with bases loaded, down 0-1 in the count.. the pitcher would be a fool to throw a fastball unless they are confident they'll blow it by you.. that or he read the scouting report on the pitcher and decided to sit on that specific pitch knowing he would get at least one of them. or the report said "ahead in count, this pitcher loves to go the the breaking ball" so he was just sitting on it.
Good night that pitch hung up there forever and a day. RIGHT over the middle of the plate too. For any youngsters reading this - hitting your spots is ALWAYS better than any amount of break you can put on a ball!
@@terrancewhite8474 Donnie Moore killed himself a couple of years after giving up the go ahead homerun to Dave Henderson with 2 outs in the 9th (up 3 games to 2). I guess it's a soulcrushing defeat. Gotta feel for those guys.
I once gave up three home runs to my next door neighbor in a little league game. In his fourth at bat I walked him on 4 pitches. With tears in my eyes, he taunted me from first base about being afraid to pitch to him. I know how the opposing pitchers feels.
That my friend is what’s meant by “u hang um and we bang um” or the more common shortened version simply hang um and bang up, that was a nuke!!! Go ahead young fella 👍🏾👍🏾
This is what makes Regionals so special and home field so important. the insane feeling when the crowd is going nuts at your home field, sold out, because its the fucking playoffs. The only feeling that probably comes close is a walk off at home in the playoffs in the MLB
Absolutely the best moment in Big Orange County in years. Maybe since the good-no good field goals against Florida in 1998. And we all know how that year ended!!!!!!!!!!!
Pitcher didn’t need to throw slow curve after blowing first pitch past him. Should have stayed with the heat. Oh well. Love watching lefty swings go deep! What a thrill!!!
The first pitch as also an 82mph curve ball - the second was 81mph just flat and hung in the middle of the plate - it did not dive like the first pitch
As a former D1 baseball player.. Even I can’t even imagine how fuckin awesome catching that ball must’ve felt knowing you just won the game the moment you made contact..
