A happy ending to a turbulent past few years where a beautiful and precious village pub had faced a very uncertain future. Now owned by the local community.

Wow what a beautiful pub that is and unbelievable to hear how someone spent a very long life working within in its storied walls. Truly amazing.

Nothing like beer served direct from the cask. Great pub.

I went in there a couple of times in the late 80s and saw Mabel. Delighted that it is now in community ownership.

An outstanding gem of a “real pub”. Beer served direct from the cask through a hatch cannot be bettered. Reminds me so much of a few pubs, sadly long gone. 👍😀🍺

A positive story here. These community run pubs are proving to be a real lifeline in villages - I hope it thrives. Mabel was a star, wasn’t she? Think of how the world outside changed during her incredible tenure. Really like the retention of the serving hatches - marvellous. And the beer looked as good as your description too!

I first visited in 1974 when it hadn’t been redecorated for many years. I remember ‘Stop the bloody whaling’ on the wall.

I remember visiting even later, when it it was still un-redecorated .and this was a point of pride. We were walking the two moors way and sloped in one lunchtime. What a gem!

I like it’s location; so close to the Old Church that it’s just a few steps away after exiting Sunday Mass and closer than your parked car down the lane! Any way to keep parishioner numbers from dwindling! (And more apt to go to Confession at 4 pm on Saturdays as it is about 5 pm when one is done !)

Fantastic video, thanks for bringing this story to attention. I briefly lived in Drewsteignton and grew up very close by, I've many fond memories of proper Devon pubs and with the support of the local community and Simon at the helm I'm sure they'll do very well! Can't wait to pop in for an ale when I next go home :)

Right up my street as a bloke spent many years trying to promote n save pubs..the community can be very proud of what they've achieved here. That Otter Bitter looked in great nick...Well done John👏👏🍺👍

Hi John, what a great find and a great story to tell. Its just the sort of pub you want to stumble on after coming off the moors. I think they will need to be rethatching that roof soon That pint of Otter looked absolutely perfect. Just wondering if you've ever come across the name of Chamberlain and Jones (7 Regent Street) in the world of Tweed? Great video, all the best!!

I thought this was going to be about the Drewe Arms in Broadhembury. That's worth a visit if you're still in that vicinity (it's about 40 miles away), the village is beatiful, the pub is great and named for the sameDrewe family. In fact, I think the Broadhembury pub is owned by the Drewe family.

I live in New Zealand and have visited England over 20 times and hell did I adore your Pubs. I really like your vlogs on pubs. After working in the Long Arm And Short Arm pub in Welen Garden city I came home and built an English pub and Brewery at my property. Cheers to English Ale.

Ugh…Dartmoor. Hate the place. As a young US Marine stationed in London in the 90’s, my company used to go to Dartmoor to conduct multi-day patrolling and land navigation training on some MOD land on Dartmoor. You don’t know fun until you know what it means to be walking on dry land and then finding yourself waste deep in a bog with 40kg of kit on. Pub looks nice, though!
