Thank you bikeman this was one of the easiest things i have done it saved me lots of headaches thanks a million im tired of looking for presta valve tubes in 26 inch since everywhere where i live is only selling 27s 28s and 29ers no 26 ers but i got a bunch of schrader tubes left over from other builds this is perfect

Another great how to Bikeman. The anti-presta crowd can also screw a $1 presta to schrader adapter onto both valves, then be able to air up everywhere. Or just screw it on and off as needed. One thing to bear in mind is you cannot use a pressure gauge with the adapter-you need a presta gauge.

8.3mm metric drill bits work too - drilled and fitted two today and was a perfect (snug) fit.

Presta valves are dandy and all but getting slime into them is next to impossible unless you have a removable stem and all the presta tubes I've purchased over the years from various brands never had one of those. Very rarely do I get flats with slime filled tubes so sliming is a major priority. For that I convert all my rims to schrader. I know they sell pre slimed presta tubes but they tend to be way overpriced, hard to find and for some reason much less effective than filling a tube with slime yourself. Schrader is the way to go for ease, simplicity and cost saving.

My rim has got a little shoulder going almost right up to the edge of the Presta hole. I don't think I'll risk it, although the rim is a MTB rim and probably wide enough, it's a weird design.

Thanks that was a pretty pro video good tips picked up a solid WTB dual duty mtb bike rim 26inch presta want compatibility for touring 26tubes readily available even at walmart so will go find a suitable drill bit an go at it mtb rims have plenty room like the reaming advice dont want nicks on valve that would be bad

(I had to drive to from Bloomington to Indianapolis to pick it up, just over an hour each way. No worries. But there was a HUGE traffic jam that slowed traffic to a crawl on Highway 465. When I finally passed the crash site, I saw that 2 very fat women, both driving white sedans, had crashed into each other. The 2 fat women could have been twins, and their cars looked like twins as well.) I'm debating about switching over to Schrader valves. My rear tire went flat when I was riding at night on a city street. Surprise, in the dark, I did not see all the little stones lying on the bicycle lane. 😭

Going the other way is easier just use a little rubber washer thing.

I just keep presta/schrader adapter on my road wheel. Works pretty well!

Are there air pumps that do both? Especially portable ones.
