higher quality too. Many of them will actually add at least plastic to their armor print t-shirts so you don't see the supposedly metal scales creasing every time a main character moves their arm....
Hm... how do all these cosplayers know what people wore in Tolkien's stories? He really hasn't given us so many clues. So.... that's a matter of interpretation.
There's a Monty Python joke in there somewhere. "What also floats in water?" Bread! Apples! Very small rocks! Cider! Gravy! Cherries! Churches! Lead! Lead! A duck.
No. That's not how it works. The Hobbit movies were far too Hollywoody, the stuff they added didn't feel organic and Jackson loves CGI far too much. They are not horrible - just nowhere as good as the LOTR.
To be fair Hobbit was quite bad, yet "magic" of LotR world still kinda was there more often than not. Rings of Power somehow so shamefully unconvincing and corny that it can pass for bad parody show. Like, those dialogues writing is porn parody level with joke part removed, if not worse
Its all for the attention, hoping they will end up in big youtuber videos. Most comments on YT are attention seeking, you cant even tell anymore who's honest and who's saying certain stuff because its hype atm.
@@Finis.Terrae mfw attention-seeking shitposters on YT comment sections have more creativity and soul in their writing than "professional" writers working for a high-profile show made by a multi-billion dollar company.

this is how retarded their understanding of Middle-Earth's history is - because Sauron was already evil, he was a lieutenant of Morgoth. If the people who wrote Rings of Power wrote the Titanic movie they would be blaming the actress Kate Winslet for the Titanic hitting the iceberg
I dunno, I have a buddy who thinks rings of power was great. He also doesn't mind female custodes and calls those that are pissed of with stuff like neckbeards. He is the typical cattle consumer type though. Maybe we shouldn't be buddies anymore

Sauron's disguise is the equivalent of people trying to trick their dogs into thinking they disappeared by holding up a sheet, then ducking around a corner when the sheet falls.
I used this name in a response to some RoP fan, and he corrected me that it's called "Rings of Power". Quite telling about the IQ of people who like the crap.
I find it so odd that so many of the writers/cast of the Rings of Power openly admit they didn't like Tolkein or his writing. Imagine a bunch of men directing the next Barbie movie, where they openly admit they hated barbies and never played with them. It would be such an odd thing to do. Yet here we are, with Amazon giving us more "content" that nobody wants, written and acted by people who don't like the source material, who don't understand the source material, and where they have a disdain of the man who created it all. Surely we are living in an episode of the Twilight Zone now. How could billion dollar companies be so braindead about all of this.
Diversity Equity and Inclusion. Anything made by white men about white men was only good because of white male privilege, not creativity, talent, or ability. (Let's pretend only white men made stories about white men exist like these people are for a second) So, to right that wrong, all those stories must be redone with the tenets of the new do or dei religion. Makes sense now? They're batsht.

The tragedy of the show's creators is that they have obviously seen good TV but have absolutely no idea what made it good. So they put together all kinds of random stuff hoping it would work.
How does Bezos, on a testosterone high, not flip tables over in every RoP meeting? Hopefully, he is a rail of pure Peruvian and a cycle of trenbolone away from giving this show to The Boys showrunners.
It’s the Ed Wood effect. He’s seen great movies. He just couldn’t make them. I’m a sports fan. I love baseball and know how it’s played. It doesn’t make me an all star shortstop.
@@mrrodriguezHLPAt the end of the day, Amazon is still a mail order company. A high tech, multibillion dollar Sears & Roebuck. Unlike Disney or Paramount, they can take the hit. It’s just couch chance to Bezos.
The more you think about Tucker Carlson's quote, "The marriage of ineptitude and high self esteem is the hallmark of our times" the more you realize how much it applies to everything new now. _Especially_ the team responsible for RoP.
And to be quoting Tucker Carlson as any measure of even the slightest whiff of good sense is an indicator of just how far down at the bottom of the barrel we are scraping.
The insane part is fallout, minus the lore destruction, was a really good show with a really well written main female lead and an actress who nailed it. How do they do that and then mess up so badly here???
Little platoon made note of one of my favorite things about rings of power season one. There’s a clip where guyladrial is being bullied as a child and the kids astutely say to her and her “paper” boat that it’s not going to float. She says: “it’s not going to float it’s going to sail.” Little platoon noticing that the boat has no sails: idk how it’s going to do that because it doesn’t have any sails. It quite literally can only float.
The sad part about the whole "alloy" thing is that there was an easy fix for it: Have Celebrimbor suggesting alloying first and then show him trying different metals in different combinations. And make him nervous and frustrated about millions of possible variants to comb through and not enough mithril to brute-force his way. And then get Sauron (who is canonically only two steps away from the god himself and thus is orders of magnitude smarter than Celebrimbor) wander into the forge, "accidentally" arrange correct metals in correct proportions on the table and then "clumsily" drop those into a crucible. Sauron gets kicked out by Celebrimbor, but leaves enough clues for him to proceed as if on his own.
The fact that they made Celebrimbor, the son of Curifin, who was himself the son of Féanor, the greatest Smith in noldorin history, become a bumbling middling smith should be a crime in itself. If only someone in the show read the books 🤦🏻♀️🤦🏻♀️
I think it would be more interesting if Sauron is pouring part of his being into these rings so they can halt the decay or aging of the world, in order to trick the elves into bonding their power to them. That could save why mithril is just a metal in the LOTR continuity, with the shirt-armature for Frodo.
More a general Hollywood comment, rather than something specific to RoP. I watch 12 Angry Men last night and realized just how uninspired modern Hollywood is when it comes to dialogue. This was a great movie that was just 12 guys in a room talking. It was full of drama, suspense, emotion, etc. It's notable that most of the actors in the movie were people you saw in TV and movies all the time from the 50's to the 80's. I think of movies I grew up with from the 70's to the 90's and there's so much great dialogue I can quote. There's very little from the past two decades that's memorable. For all the Marvel success, how much has entered the popular consciousness? Where are lines like "I'm gonna make him an offer he can't refuse.", "We're gonna need a bigger boat.", or "I am your father." Hell, I remember more for low budget horror/scifi/comedy "Night of the Creeps" than anything from this century.
Agreed. 12 angry men is great. Some other Movies similar in intensity and quality that are essentially just people talking, in one room worth checking out: Man From Earth. Whos afraid of Virginia Wolfe? God on Trial.
MCU has some. You might just be outside the demographic that uses them. Stuff like that are communicated using gifs, memes, or stickers for the most part. The medium changed.
Outside of memes like "I understood that reference" the Nolan's Batman trilogy has memorable phrases, I guess more movies do but honestly I don't pay much attention, among those that you mentioned the "I'm your father" sounds sub-par.
A last alliance of men and trolls marched against the armies of Amazon, and on the very slopes of Mount Prime, they fought for the freedom of Middle-Earth.
My favorite part of the new trailer was when Sauron said, "It's-a me, Sauron." then pulled the Rancor out of his wig and led the forces of Narnia to have a dance-off against Venom for control of Eternia. This will truly be a TV show of all time.
Amazon assistant: Even if it is breached, it would take a number beyond reckoning, thousands to film the show. Amazon boss: Tens of thousands! Assistant: But my Lord there is no such force. *Shows the 10,000 wigs in the Amazon storage vault Assistant: 🤯😢
I'm not a huge Tolkien fan. I got to watch all of my friends who were have an absolute blast going to see the films in the theaters. I was kind of jealous. After everything that's happened with this show, I'm no longer jealous. Quite the opposite. It has to be the worst time to be a Tolkien fan. In 2024, thanks to corporations, we've all cried over the corpse of some IP we adored as kids. My wife gets frustrated by the fact I typically shy away from any new movies or TV shows. 🤷
This is the continuation of the Dave Filoni school of Dire-log, instead of dialog. Who knows maybe they've added Filoni's 20 second gap before reply.🤣🤣
"There is some contention as to the focus of the story: some at Annecy film festival claimed that Helm's daughter, Héra, is the heroine of the film." Well, there goes that. She is of so little consequence to the actual story that she is unnamed.
@@davidj8580 Hmm, I often never mind about such things in anime as it allows you to believe the unbelievable and have fun with it but it does sounds like a tick box move.
Rings of Power is the final product of decades of participation medals. Decidedly unexceptional people handed credits, like so much candy on Halloween, rolling up on Amazon Studios with a reem of vocational studies certificates in hand to justify why they're the Right Person For The Job of leading this project. And the criteria for selecting the winner was which one had the most gold stars affixed, like magpies salivating at the baubles festooned across the chests of N Korean generals. I'm almost disgusted to the point of canceling my membership and paying for the shipping on my 6-pack Fruit of The Loom boxer-briefs. Grrrrrr!
When I was reading the Silmarillion many years ago, I was imagining all these tall, noble warriors like Gil-Gallad and Elendil and Elrond and the others, some uplifting music that made me want to jump on a horse and charge the bad guys and Sauron as a slimy trickster oozing and shmoozing his way around so that everyone loved him be we knew he was a creep. Then Amazon turned into a YA novel....
the thing that pissed me off the most is how old as hell celebrimbor looks like, dude is literally younger than galadriel in lore(to be fair i am pissed off about every character in this show)
Tolkien was by far masterful when it comes to the high sounding dialogue! Let's take the example of the conversation of Finrod and Andreth: "All ye Elves deem that we die swiftly by our true kind. That we are brittle and brief, and ye are strong and lasting. We may be "Children of Eru," as ye say in your lore; but we are children to you also: to be loved a little maybe, and yet creatures of less worth, upon whom ye may look down from the height of your power and your knowledge, with a smile, or with pity, or with a shaking of heads.' 'Alas, you speak near the truth,' said Finrod. 'At least of many of my people; but not of all, and certainly not of me. But consider this well, Andreth, when we name you "Children of Eru" we do not speak lightly; for that name we do not utter ever in jest or without full intent. When we speak so, we speak out of knowledge, not out of mere Elvish lore; and we proclaim that ye are our kin, in a kinship far closer (both of hröa and fëa) than that which binds together all other creatures of Arda, and ourselves to them. 'Other creatures also in Middle-earth we love in their measure and kind: the beasts and birds who are our friends, the trees, and even the fair flowers that pass more swiftly than Men. Their passing we regret; but believe it to be a part of their nature, as much as are their shapes or their hues. 'But for you, who are our nearer kin, our regret is far greater. Yet, if we consider the briefness of life in all Middle-earth, must we not believe that your brevity is also part of your nature? Do not your own people believe this too? And yet from your words and their bitterness I guess that you think that we err.' 'I think that you err, and all who think likewise,' said Andreth; 'and that that error itself comes of the Shadow. But to speak of Men. Some will say this and some that; but most, thinking little, will ever hold that what is in their brief span in the world has ever been so, and shall so ever remain," ... "Then Finrod was silent; but after a while he said: 'These words are strange and terrible. And you speak with the bitterness of one whose pride has been humiliated, and seeks therefore to wound those to whom she speaks. If all the Wise among Men speak so, then well I can believe that ye have suffered some great hurt. But not by my people, Andreth, nor by any of the Quendi. If we are as we are, and ye are as we find you, that is not by any deed of ours, nor of our desire; and your sorrow does not rejoice us nor feed our pride. One only would say otherwise: that Enemy whom you do not name. 'Beware of the chaff with your corn, Andreth! For it may be deadly: lies of the Enemy that out of envy will breed hate. Not all the voices that come out of the darkness speak truth to those minds that listen for strange news. Yeah there is a lot of great almost philsophical sounding dialogue of Tolkien's authorship! But these morons at amazon don't have the rights to use any of it! This also brings in mind the conversation of Amandil and Elendil in the Akallabeth: "And Amandil ... was dismayed and filled with a great dread, for he knew that Men could not vanquish the Valar in war, and that ruin must come upon the world, if this war were not stayed. Therefore he called his son, Elendil, and he said to him: 'The days are dark, and there is no hope for Men, for the Faithful are few. Therefore I am minded to try that counsel which our forefather Eärendil took of old, to sail into the West..., and to speak to the Valar, even to Manwë himself, if may be, and beseech his aid ere all is lost.' 'Would you then betray the King?' said Elendil. 'For you know well the charge that they make against us, that we are traitors and spies, and that until this day it has been false.' 'If I thought that Manwë needed such a messenger,' said Amandil, 'I would betray the King. For there is but one loyalty from which no man can be absolved in heart for any cause. But it is for mercy upon Men and their deliverance from Sauron the Deceiver that I would plead, since some at least have remained faithful. And as for the Ban, I will suffer in myself the penalty, lest all my people should become guilty.'" The Silmarillion, Akallabêth This is the example of Tolkien's dialogue!
It's a reminder of the depths Tolkien went in thought, that Andreth states a view that the idea that 'humans dying quickly comes from Evil.' It's also something that would never be set aside to continue the discussion with 'modern' writers at the helm. The moment a character disagrees with another in the slightest, they have to have it out. (which I imagine is a feature of any conversation the writers are in, and makes them impossible to have discussions with.)
"Its going to be darker this year." "The show is going to explore more disturbing adult themes?" "No, they cut our budget so we don't have as much lighting."
There is one thing about this boats-and-stones-metaphor: when Gollum plummeted into the volcano, he was looking up, yet he sunk into the lava (which, by the way, is physically impossible because of the higher specific weight of molten stone): why? Was the lava even looking upper?
Read Ursula K. LeGuin's essay on fantasy dialogue and prose, "From Elfland to Poughkeepsie". It's an amazing study of why fantasy dialogue (and prose) is different from modern dialogue (and prose), and whenever a writer who doesn't understand this attempts to write fantasy, it rings hollow. This is why so many writers give up and simply use modern diction and idioms, which often sound hopelessly dull (and can be transplanted right back into a police procedure novel, or an episode of Law and Order.) The writers of this show clearly did not do the assignment. This is how I know they're not real writers; they're just "winging it" and hoping no one notices. It's laughable.
Lord of the Rings: peak cinema The Hobbit: BOOOOO these suck!!! Rings of Power: You know, maybe the Hobbit wasn’t so bad (I know I enjoyed those movies despite their flaws)
A pity, to see skilled and talented actors wasted on poor scripts with bad direction. Same for the 'Fallout' show from what little I've seen in clips of it.
And the saddest thing about this is that women directing is not a bad thing, but their reputation is going down because bad directors are in charge. That has nothing to do with the gender but only with the competence/talent of the director or producer. In fact there are very competent and very good screen writers/directors/producers and actors of women out there.
