Yes, I understand that you would have said something to pastor and then if he didn't receive it, you would have not spoken at the conference.However , I like the way this happened because the people Had This shoved. in their face publicly, and perhaps many of them thought it was okay because of where they were. the truth needed to be spoken publicly. The rebuke that Mark Driscoll did was good. But having listened to both these men previously (John and Mark). I believe them both unqualified to preach.
The fact of whether Mark handled it perfectly or not, should not even be a discussion. When you allow things in your church that are that far out of bounds you deserve to be called out publicly. The church desperately needs to wake up and have a reverent Godly fear again
Have you seen the whole clip? Lindell went on to say that he is the one that as a man of God willing to call a fellow man of God out for doing wrong. Refused to take correction and quickly tried to seem like he was the bold one calling sin out. I’m shocked and grieved by the state of the American church.
And also Mark said he was praying all night.. we dont know what God could have spoken to him to do with this situation. God could have told him to go and speak against what he witnessed and to do to in that way. There are so many things happening in churches behind closed doors and God will lead people to bring it to light like in this situation. Especially if the pastor in the church is falling. He was speaking to the Jezebel spirit that would allow such a sinful exhibition to begin a men’s Christian conference. Lindell quenched the Spirit, actually Lindell rebuked the Spirit in a self righteous exhibition reminiscent of the Garden. Pastors are NOT little Popes. Jesus Christ is the head of his Church. Too many pastors usurp His Authority and it is happening more and more, sadly. I’m praying for all concerned in this debacle.

There was no glorification of Christ at this conference. Mark didn't know there was going to be a sword stripper on the stage. Mark did the right thing, it was no different than Jack Hibbs calling out Congress at the opening prayer. We need strong men and speaking out when God prompts you is a spiritual gift and our duty.
Boycott "Pastor" John Lindell and the James River church in Springfield Missouri ! I said "Pastor" cause that is stretching it if this man and his church are cool with this Blasphemy !
I do not agree that silence should be an option in this case. Someone HAD to speak up publicly and protect the audience. This is a Christian organized event so we have to assume that most of the people in there are Christians. Instead of chasing Driscoll off the stage, Lindell should get up there first and apologise for that disgraceful act. Since he did not, we have to assume that he approved it.

Are you telling me the event team never discussed the opening show with their pastor before the day? A spell was casr on everyone, and they needed to repent. That opening scene was more spiritual than physical. Pastor Mark was right to do open rebuke.

Mark Driscoll is the real man of God here. He is correct to call out the blasphemy of the opening act, and to admonish the audience that it was of the spirit of Jezebel.
I fully agree with what Mark Driscoll did. Pastor John needs to repent or be removed along with any of the leadership who was aware of the planning for this performance. Pastor John and his staff should have immediately had the performance stopped if they, for some reason, didn't know what it was going to be beforehand.

Mark was correct in what he did. The James River Church is run by a husband wife team and their 2 sons. The two sons were in charge of the Men’s conference where this happened. As a Christian I would not have anything to do with this church.

Our God is an amazing God! Praise Him for using Pastor Driscoll to bring light to what clearly most of the congregation thought was a simple entertainment. This just goes to show how much evil we tolerate as the body of Christ. Jesus certainly would not have been okay with this had he been in that conference. I thank God for letting us use this moment to reflect on our walk with Him.
I visited a church at Christmas where a very fit lady in a tight gold onsie pant suit climbed a pole and performed a pole “dance” with Christmas music playing in the background. It lasted about 10 minutes. It was the absolute most uncomfortable “church” experience I’ve ever experienced. I thought of all the guys who struggled with pornography watching that. I felt for all the women, including myself, who worried about their own body image as they sat next to their husband watching the woman with the perfect figure climbing the pole in front of them. I wondered about men who had asked God for forgiveness for going to such places and then came to church just to have it demonstrated so provocatively before them. God help us. I never went back to that church. Mark Driscoll did the right thing. It wasn’t just an issue between one brother of Christ and another brother. The whole group of men witnessed this. The whole group of men needed to be confronted. God bless men of God, like Pastor Driscoll who will stand up for truth. Watching Pastor Driscoll call this out gave me the confirmation that the uncomfortableness I was feeling during my experience was spot on.
Pastor Mark was right! This is not a sin of one man, in private. This was a sin of a group. He directed to that group! Pastor Mark was BOLD and Courageous for the LORD. I applaud him for what he did!

I don’t understand why the guy on the pole had anything to do with a men’s conference. Gathering as believers in a men’s conference is for growth and refreshment of the spirit in the Lord, not for entertainment.
I saw a video of other parts of the show. Was there any place for boxing or monster trucks? It makes me wonder what the point of the conference really was. Even some of the preaching didn't seem very deep to me which is why I can't really think of one example of something one of the speakers said.
I agree I would have dismissed myself after a private conversation with John if John didn’t see anything wrong with the opening act! I would not have preached at all!
I think Mark started off correctly by calling out the wrong and evil that he saw at that conference, but then afterward it seems he walked it back, and got back on stage and was all too buddy buddy with Lindell. Not cool.
Mark was 100% right in this. If lindale would have known what he was going to do he would not have let him gone up on stage and said what he said. Mark had a hard decision to make and he made the right one and I'm telling you it was tough the gates of hell was open and brought against him. And everybody reacts different and if you would have done different than what Mark did more power to you as long as you would have dressed it if you would have turned a blind eye and just walked away then you would be held accountable for not confronting this in front of believers and there could have been very young believers and walked away and thought this was acceptable. This church with this pastor needs to close down or at least the pastor needs to be kicked out.
no Matt 18 here… wondering tho, did this rebuke by Driscoll need to be heard by those in the crowd in this way? If Driscoll would have approached Lindell earlier behind the scenes, and if from that, no apology to the crowd or rebuke resulted, Driscoll would have missed the chance. It all seems a bit out of order but at least these teens who came with their dads, and those vulnerable men who are young in faith or who struggle with the world did witness a decisive correction. Any apologies or rebukes that would have been made in the days following the conference may not have reached those who needed to hear it most.. just thoughts..

We don’t need entertainment in the church. We need the Holy Spirit. I don’t think this was pleasing to God. This did not invite the Holy Spirit just the opposite.
I can see where Mark is coming from. But it's just an argument from aesthetics. A Man can show off his skill without wearing a shirt. It's Godly for man to have skill. Maybe it's inappropriate to show that off at church. But I'm not sure if that counts as a "Jezebel Spirit".
There was enough sexualization of it that at the least it comes off as overly sexual, at the worst it's demonic looking all mixed together. In the past they typically go for goofy/silly type theatrics this one was way out of character for them and they should be repentant.

I was there and your assessment is very good and fair. Thank you for being balanced. Mark did not get to teach his last session. He and John say at a high top table and discussed the mending of their relationship. Imo we missed the very best part of the teaching, where Mark was going to address us in how to have the spirit of Elijah.
@@withgodchannel that’s correct. As far as I could tell, all speakers, Driscol, Jabin Chavez and Tim Timberlake and Lindell were in the audience on Friday. On Saturday morning Driscol was the first session. He started with discussing the Ahab and Jezebel spirit and was going to have a brief break and then return to discuss the spirit of Elijah. His goal was to call men out of a life of tolerance to a life like Elijah in a culture that’s lost its way. He was at the end of that first session when he called out the opening act and John reacted. We never got to hear the rest of it. When they both returned to the stage and discussed the break in the relationship and were trying to restore it, the issue of the opening act was never mentioned or discussed. Which was disheartening. You could tell Mark was very muzzled at this point but still gracious. My personal opinion is that John was embarrassed and was protecting his brand. Which is so sad to me. I attend his church. On Sunday morning I was expecting some sort of response from John but nothing was said. I’m assuming that’s because John had scheduled Tim Timberlake to preach and there was no need to open that can of worms with a guest in the house (even though Timberlake was at the conference). I do imagine it will be addressed at some point. I’ve sat with Pastor John one on one early on in my own ministry. He’s a good guy. It is a very unfortunate situation.

I thought about that too like why wouldn’t mark Driscoll speak to John Lindell about it first, but maybe he wanted the opportunity to speak to the crowd about the “entertainment” and he thought if he said something to John Lindell about it first he might not get that opportunity.
I can see what you’re saying but you can hear mark say mid sermon “ok, we’re gonna say this”. Which to me seemed like the Holy Spirit was tugging on his heart to address the situation which he probably wanted to avoid since it’d be calling his friends mistake out. You can’t avoid the tugging of the Holy Spirit though.
Lindell himself said they spoke for 30 minutes in private. I believe Mark DID tell Lindell the truth. Lindell just thought Mark wouldn't have the guts to do it.
I think Mark made a huge point when he gracefully walked off the stage instead of continuing what he was saying. His Ahab showed when Lindell and mark were up there together during the other part because mark was allowing him to misuse scripture and not saying anything and basically letting him abuse scripture

I wonder how the conference ended? John Lindell was in charge of the meeting. He had the spiritual authority. It sounds like the congregation was in agreement with Mark. Very interesting.
Those churches that are associated with Bethel church are nothing more than carnality and worldliness which was demonstrated in this men's church service. The world is dying and going to hell and the church in America is more concerned about worldly entertainment and worldly pleasure. Shame on you all!!
You missed the footage where Mark comes back on stage and kisses the ring of John "the toe grower" (research that one!). He apologizes and takes everything back. WEAK! Before you all praise Mark, you need to see that footage. He completely undoes his bold stand for his conviction!
