Something a little different with a drive through the top end of Walsall town centre, contains a mixture of retail park, old shops and buses. A snapshot of ordinary life on Thursday 22nd October 2009.
WOW left Walsall, Aldridge actually in 1987 - now a US citizen in Nashville USA - I did not recognize ANY part of Walsall as I remember it - it certainly has changed
HodgdonH110 Hello Nashville 😀 Walsall certainly has changed since you last saw the place. Chances are you wouldn't recognise the place these days. Not all changes are for the good either. Thanks for watching.
Good old walsall . Born manor hospital 76 . Grew up and had the most excellent adventure of my life growing up .. went to Joseph leckie the best days ever
Gone from that retail park: JJB, Birthday, Mothercare, Outfit, HMV, Maplin, Brantano, PizzaHut & Blockbuster 😳 Then I realised TJ Hughes moved from behind the retail park to the saddlers centre and they’ve gone from there now too 😳😂😂
The last time I went through Walsall town centre there were trolleybuses! Blue I think. That would have been late 60's in the back of my dads car on our way to Bloxwich. God I feel old.
Hi Wayne, only just uploaded so its still being processed by YT. Was filmed with my usual camcorder and in HQ. Will be ok once its finished being processed.
well you can tell its walsall as soon as you have to bounce over non stop speed bumps just to get anywhere!! I miss being able to loop round the ABC cinema and tazz back up wolvo road it was a nice little racetrack except for the diesel spills off the bus station lol! Remember batting round there showing off to the crowd waiting for "Silver Dream Racer" LOL!
That makes two of us.. ha ha. I too remember blue trolly buses. Our mom used to get her hair done in Leamore near the Rosum. We caught the trolly bus and got off outside the hair dressers. I can still see the conductor changing the poles over or whatever it was they did...
@cena409 These massive supermarkets are taking over slow but sure. I spent 5 years at that college, I look now and can't believe how its all changed so much.
@annon707 I can see you must know Walsall by your videos, & its not so pointless as you may think. It may appear that I was driving randomly around the town, in fact I was on a job and know Walsall very well, I spent 5 years at college there, hence my reason for filming an ordinary day in town as it happened in real time. Since this film was made, look at the view from 2:42 now no longer there, completely changed - 4:00 onwards buses can drive the other way today, again all changed. A Snapshot
Yes remember it well. LOL. We've seen a few changes take place around here over the years, no where near as much fun to drive through these days... :-((
@BellumSacrumBellum28 I use a HD Panasonic camcorder, best thing I ever bought... I love it !! :-) You should do that, its all a big learning curve and a bit of fun. I'd be interested in seeing where you live and whats its like. Thats all part of the fun. Thanks
Bevoin1970 I couldn't even make out where Park st was. Lived in an awful flat over a hearing aid office, I remember the blue buses And the railway station...long time ago, thanks for reply.
Willow Edwards Ah yes the blue buses, I remember those as a kid too. The station is still there but not there. The old station was knocked down and M&S is the frontage now, however the station is still there, just hidden in what's now called the "Saddlers Centre" The town centre has sadly declined in my view since the days you mention. Progress eh?
Bevoin1970 yea, progress , that's what it's called, reckon the 70s were the beginning of the end For the U.K. Visited last July and was so shocked at the city's I remembered. No character anymore.
Now you can see why european trucks don't have tractor units and trailers as long as you Guys do in America.. ha ha. We have some seriously tight streets and roads over here. The only guaranteed straightish roads would be the motorways and they have slow curves.. ha ha
