My friend, this video is a treasure! As a life long Kentite, it's amazing to ride through my childhood again. I only wish you could see the town now! Some things are EXACTLY the same... and some things are EXACTLY completely different!

Thanks for sharing this. I graduated from Kent in 1979 so this brought back good memories about how Kent used to look. I liked the way it was back then so much better. Progress? Great forethought to document Kent during this time.

Über cool! Robert Smithson's earth sculpture .. that sadly KSU got rid of... And at around 5:04 you can see one of my roommates truck. His truck was like an aqua color and a piece of crap. He said I could use it to move my stuff home when I left Kent before going off to grad school...but I loaded it up and I saw it was leaking gas! He said oh yeah he was driving it like that for weeks... I didn't want to blow up so rented a uhaul. Anyway so bizarre to see this in the video..

Bill Lang? Charlie Brill was a great guy and professor. He gave me ,many tips in shooting photography and film development. That last building you called the shed in the video was the remnants of the burned barn, 1969. Many of the roads you traveled on are no longer there or have been changed. The purr of your VW engine brings back good memories.

Thanks Terry. Did we know each other at KSU? I graduated in '71. Did you know Cory Lash? He is the Narrator. There is also a 1987 drive thru Kent also. (ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-n9d-ZjRnHk0.html) I'm on Facebook too if you want to stop by. WIlliam A. Ling

I don't believe we knew each other. When Charlie mentioned your names I thought they sounded familiar but I may be mistaken. I have a problem with names sometimes but good recollection of faces. I began at KSU Spring Quarter 1969. I didn't finish school. When the campus closed down I needed to find a job because my GI Bill helped supplement my income. Being a member of the Veteran's Association some of us found employment as Security with the Campus Police Department. I watched your video from 1987 a few years ago and left a comment. This town and the people have changed many times over.

Well, we were there at the same time. I was a Journalism major, so I was around Taylor Hall a lot. About the only people I have had any continuing touch with have been Paul Tople and Mike WIlliams. Thanks for your comments Terry. I hope life has been good to you.
@MoTown44240

I commuted from my parents home in Warren to campus for Spring quarter 1969 majoring in Secondary Education. At 22 y.o. my parents curfew was not agreeable to me. They only provided me room and board while I worked part time to supplement my GI Bill. Moved to Kent that summer. Most of my time around Taylor Hall was spent on Blanket Hill smooching the coeds. I started school 1975 part time and that's when I met Charlie Brill. After working six months for the KSU PD as Security I applied for a job. I was sent to OSHP Academy. I retired from KSU PD in 1993. Life has been good and not so good. Mostly good though. Wish a lot of my old friends were still around but fortunately I have more. Hope life has been good to you also.

Charles Brill not only my B/W photo professor but a good friend. Bill Lane, Laign seems like I know you. Would've been a hoot to see Jerry's Diner. N. Water St. has changed establishments often but the scenery is much the same as it was when I dropped into this town in 1969. Loop Circle? Its been Hilltop Drive since I can remember. Great video though.

In reality there were incredibly high interest rates in 1980. Hardly a position of strength. The early 1980s recession in the United States began in July 1981 and ended in November 1982. One cause was the Federal Reserve's contractionary monetary policy, which sought to rein in the high inflation. In the wake of the 1973 oil crisis and the 1979 energy crisis, stagflation began to afflict the economy

Wow, how cool to see video from the actual year I was a student there. I lived in Koonce Hall at Tri-Towers on the 10th floor. Wish I would have followed through and graduated from KSU, but for the year that I was there - it was the best experience. Enjoyed my time at the Rat, Filthy McNasty's, and other bars. If I wasn't in a dark bar, you'd find me in the darkroom at Taylor Hall developing film and making prints. It was good to see Charlie Brill - just as I remembered him. Thanks for uploading this video ... you brought back a lot of good memories.

Nice to see Kent again, but it sure hasn't changed much since I was there, especially the main drag. What I remember most about it was, Kent back in the day was a biker bar rowdy ass town. lol Not sure about today as its been since the 70's when I was last there, but for a town its size, it had allot of action. lol

Ohio's heyday was during the Gilded Age. In the late 1800s it was a very populous and powerful state full of manufacturing. And Presidents used to come from Ohio. The entire state has been dying a slow death for decades.
