Hi @soliddriver re the first point. You mentioned that fuel is your biggest expense. If I may update that point ? First, I totally agree that driving aimlessly is a TOTAL waste of time and resources because, well, when I was a noob, that's exactly what I was doing. . . . BUT. . . Depending on the "AGE" of your car,, and as your car gets older [I have a 2012 Mazda 3 sedan = 8 years old and approx 254000 kms], MAINTENANCE begins to take the #1 spot of this list, and here's an example of this; In the past year since my first ride back in May 2019, I spent almost $8000 in maintenance, as opposed to my total fuel used being about $6000. I keep track of all expenses so I know. I'm not a careless driver, and I take care of my car. As in when something breaks or wears out [in 3 months my front end costed me about $1700, I don't mess around, I get it fixed. I just know that as my car has aged, as any rideshare driver will attest to, as the car gets older, if you want it to last as long as possible, maintenance is KEY

How do you feel about using the volume on the driver app navigation, as I have to use it. I've only been doing Uber for a few months now and just recently moved back to Monterey, so a lot has changed. I know it can be annoying when you are having a conversation with a passenger, but do all ride share drivers turn it off? I've tried using a bluetooth ear bud in just one ear and that was even more embarrassing, plus I suffer from tinitus too. (constant ringing in my ears). Great information too on your videos. A lot of it is just plain old common sense!

I haven't heard a lot of driver discussion on whether or not they have their GPS volume on so I can't really say how common it is one way or the other. Personally, I find it annoying. Especially if people are trying to have a conversation. I also feel that a driver that knows their market shouldn't really need vocal instructions if your phone is positioned a glance away. I use Google Maps with the Alerts Only setting with a Bluetooth headset so that it only speaks when necessary (traffic accident, better route etc) and I'm the only one that hears it. I'm not sure why you would find a headset embarrassing? I think it's vital to have when riders call. I keep mine in my left ear so passengers don't even see it. Feel free to reply if you have any other questions or comments :)

Yeah, I have thought about doing that but then when the GPS starts talking to you in your ear and you're having a conversation with people, that too can be annoying for me. I've only been doing Uber for a few months, and I don't drive every day, I'd rather get out of it to be perfectly honest, especially after doing my accounts yesterday, OK, I have a ton of stuff to write off, but at the end of the day, is driving for Uber really worth it, especially with having the proper ride share insurance too. It's starting to get to me. I have a lot of other job's that keep me from driving for Uber and Lyft, I just really do it to pass time and bring in a few extra dollars to spend and also for the write off's.

I believe it will become more lucrative again once all the students are back in school. There are a Lot of drivers out there right now.

UberGirlPaula, i drive in l.a cali. For the first few months i had my gps on loud. So it could remind me to not miss my turns while having conversations or getting distracted. After a while i turned it off, bc i felt more comfortable without it. It takes time. And yes a driver sitting in front of ur house for long periods of time after dropping u off is creepy as hell!!!

Tip #1 how tacky to have a tip cup..if I saw that.I really wouldn't tip

I agree, as do many others. I don't have an actual cup or box for that reason. Just some bills in the car's cup holder. I too think that signs, candy and all that stuff is tacky and less than classy.

Should stay long enough that if they forgot something they can get right back to the car to grab it.... Unless its heavy traffic I give it about 30 seconds

I sit in front of a house only long enough to finish out all the crap on the app about 20 secs
@SolidDriver

That sounds about right. If you need a minute to wrap up that's all good. This is moreso directed towards drivers that sit there for ages waiting for the next ping.

I always get away from the persons house as soon as possible just not to creep them out especially if it's a woman so she does no think I'm stalking her or something, the only time I'll take my time is if it's an apartment building cause that's not so personalized even then I don't linger.
