@@Raymond-rr5iv not in this scenario . I wasted a minute and 38 seconds of my life and learned absolutly nothing new from the rest of the video. So not seeing the car jump wasn't beneficial in any way.
@@paulmcgo1089 It was 5 cents when I was a teen. And I could also buy dinner for four in a fine restaurant for $2.00. After we ate, we'd all walk home, 8 miles one way, through the snow. Singing the whole way.
100%! That sun in his eye story is BS. I'm sure that bridge has live cameras to help with problems like the sun being bright and when it's nighttime. It also records proof for the state's DOT/coast guard who oversees the bridge operations to help provide real-time facts of whos at fault for insurance claims, other legalities, etc during their investigation. I'm a bridge technician in a small rural town on the eastern shore of MD with no toll, smaller bridge. We have gates like a railroad crossing on both sides, traffic lights on both sides, 5 cameras showing every angle of the draw bridge so we can see the cars and where the boats are at and to make sure another boat we didn't see tries to race under the bridge while you are bringing it back down. We also have a concrete barrier on wheels that goes across the whole road on the side that has the opening when the bridge is up. That guy was not paying attention mixed with laziness he didn't double-check by walking over to all sides to make sure there were no cars or people on the bridge. I have cars running the traffic lights all the time while in the process of bringing the gates down when I have to stop and let a person in a hurry make it across the bridge because they can't wait 5 mins.. it's a job you have to be aware of everything going on. The state's bridge commission didn't want to say anything because they know they are about to pay out after seeing the camera footage.

Let's be fair: every man has anticipated this exact situation and secretly prepares for it every time they cross a drawbridge. When in doubt, throttle out.
Sun glare is just a bad excuse for incompetence. If there's glare where you're looking, then you make damn sure you move or have the correct eyewear to have a clear view before raising the bridge.
@@therealcarbine15 Reason we must defund the government. They will never be held responsible for what they’ve done they investigate themselves and conclude “We’ve done nothing wrong “
2nd drawbridge story I've seen. Last one I saw was an elderly lady walking a bicycle across, held on for dear life, and died after falling at least 50 ft. If we're relying on one person that could be blinded by a sun glare on one inanimate window, then you might consider putting more manpower or cameras into place. Hire a couple homeless folks at minimum wage!
There's a lot being recommended. Saw one where they guy went and stopped on the drawbridge with his car. The idiot's car was damaged and the drawbridge employee was fired.
@@worldeater4115 it's idiotic to call somebody an idiot and when you don't have all the facts how does it feel to be called an idiot yourself? WTH are you guys doing with the audio? Cmon, put it in both ears and don't have one source in left and the other in the right. Is this an elementary school project?
Here’s a simple fix. put a set of infrared motion sensors along the length and train the operator to use these before opening. Any cars driving by will cause an anomaly along the length which can easily be reported…one of many solutions.
Mr Zark you can't reverse if you are on it while it's up because there is a gap between the bridge and the concrete so they would fall through if they tried to do that
A draw bridge operator arguing with his girlfriend on the phone in Sacramento raised the bridge without lowering the traffic arms and red lights. Poor guy in a pick-up drove right off the open bridge into the river at night. He drowned
With all the technology, you'd think inferred sensors could be placed on the bridge to warn of someone in the danger zone. Why didn't arms come down with blinking lights, like at railroad crossings?
Why didn't they just stop? Would the angle of the half of the bridge they were on have been to steep for them to avoid rolling backwards? Or, even if that's so, why not just park the car and get out? It could not have been that steep that they would have tumbled down.
Because their lives where at risk. He reacted quickly and with vigor to accelerate and jump the bridge. It was impactful because their lives where in jeopardy, with only shot at survival.
Holy shit you guys need to level your audio. All I hear is *whisper whisper whisper* then reporter screaming in the mic. Then * whisper whisper whisper* then screaming in mic.
Just saw the story about this on channel 4 BY and the only thing they said was "I don't know what made the thought go from my head to my foot" and that war all they said! This was much more informative.
Gates SHOULD completely close, before the bridge roadway can begin to move! The bridge should have sensors to detect the weight, heat or magnetic field of any vehicle on it. Humans CAN NOT be depended upon to always make the safest choices! A bit of alcohol, reefer or even OTC Cold Medicine, can so distract a bridge operator, that he or she can cause a fatal accident. I recall a Railroad Bridge tender whom back in the 1970s, had consumed alcohol with his lunch. Several miles away, he signaled for a train to "Go", even though the bridge was up. Having overestimated the passing ship's speed, the train crashed into the bridge counterweight, killing the 3 man locomotive crew and doing tens of millions in damages! Luckily, the only chemical spill, was the locomotives fuel, into the river that the bridge crossed over! The bridge tender was convicted of several crimes and went to prison.
I’m trying to picture it. It starts going up so he floors it to jump to other side. But wouldn’t they just slide backwards if they did nothing? Again the video they’re showing isn’t even showing the draw bridge when it goes up normally so I can’t picture the situation lol.
Some people fear what others long for! I've always wished this would happen to me so I could do this, true story! Well, at least not with the psycho girls in the vehicle. I can't even begin to imagine the screaming and bullshit he had to put up with after that one! Poor guy was probably wishing they didn't clear the bridge once they started lmao 🤣
“Are you not entertained!?” No, cause Russel crowes bridge jump was a no show. Just mere stories of bravery. Two daughters all dolled up for the interview. Didn’t even see them in the video at least. What a waste!
Husband and wife go car shopping and wife knows what he's think as he stars at a particular Toyota. Wife: No honey, you are jumping our car. Husband years later at a bridge: Heres my chance!
Simple fix would be sensors at either end of the bridge that would sound alarm to notify the watch person that a vehicle is nearing the bridge.visual is always an iffy bet. The sensors could also trip a warning sign for motorists about a bridge lift.
