We're riding on Adams, when a driver honks, then cuts all through the neighborhood between Meade and Adams to get to Texas, and of course we catch up to them.
Drivers: don't honk at people on bikes.
Thanks for watching.
These videos can be scary, but please know that my goal isn't to deter people from riding bikes in San Diego, but to show the real-world conditions. Sometimes it's pleasant, sometimes it's just fine, and other times there's tension and conflict.
The roads in San Diego should be safe and accessible to everyone without the use of a car. My hope is that these videos help those in power make better decisions for all our safety. I also believe that the more people who decide to ride, the safer the roads will become.
Please remember to support your local bike safety and mobility advocacy organizations, like BikeSD (bikesd.org/), the San Diego County Bike Coalition (sdbikecoalition.org/) and Circulate San Diego (www.circulatesd.org/)

so true, I used to ride a moped in college. guys in flashy sports cars would whiz by in traffic.. I'd catch up at the next light. they'd gun it.. but the lights are timed for 30 MPH. so they'd be waiting, and I'd whiz by , just as the light was turning green. rinse and repeat for nearly a dozen lights as we cross town.. I actually thought you were on a motorbike at first. and wondered why you were in the bike.. but then you explained you were cycling..

Bike, moped, motorbike, or car, this ride is designed for the shared use, regardless of this driver's limitations with patience.

100%. I've encountered this. I have confronted people over this. My literal neighbors cannot imagine I am a part of their community using our streets and that they will be confronted after aggressing at me on my bicycle, using their car. Great job.

Long before I started recording, I was riding at like 6am on a Sunday morning. Just exercise, on a quiet neighborhood street. A guy started swerving behind me, then cut me off, then was swerving so I couldn't pass. Then he gave me the finger, and pulled right into his driveway. I hit the brakes so hard, I left a mark on the road, and turned around and walked my bike back two house lengths, and said "What's up?" he told me that I didn't signal at a turn, and didn't make a full stop at a stop sign. "You've got to me joking," I said. "Just take it easy with flipping off your neighbors, especially in front of your own house." He mumbled and went inside. A couple of weeks later, he flagged me down on the same road. I said "You're the guy with the finger." He then apologized, said he was having a rough few days, just took it out on me, and was really sincere and kind about it. We see each other around all the time, and he's become something of a friend.

Lots of tough guys driving cars...says the tough guy taunting a driver. As I say in the video, I'm not proud of my response here, but one can only take so much!

Great point made in this video. We are all neighbors out there. The majority of trips are less than 3 miles which means most of the people you honk at or get pissed off with live on your street or on the next block. It's basically like leaving your front door and immediately screaming F-YOU at the guy next door watering his lawn... the other driver or cyclist that you swerve at is probably going to be the person one spot in front of you in line at the Whole Foods.

Riding my bike one day a motorist honked his horn and I saw him laugh assuming to impress his lady friend. Dumb a$$ got caught at a red light I asked what the problem was and again he just laughed. I asked him if his lady friend blows like the horn magically changed the smile to yelling at me. I now laughed and drove off.

While I'd glad you caught up and showed the driver that driving isn't always faster, I'm sure we can clown on aggressive men without demeaning the women who happen to be near them.

Also can't believe that Camino Del Rio south "bike lane" is still that narrow and blocked by vegetation.

Ah, yes. Because we live in a world ruled by the whims of chaos, and are at the mercy of gravity and entropy at all times. Or drivers can just be patient.

Next time he honks at you on Adams you need to tell him he owes you a drink @ Polite Provisions.

Even before I was into riding my bike, I would never consider honking at a cyclist. I really don't get people today. When I was younger, the streets were shared with bikes and pedestrians. But these days, motorists will honk at anyone not in a car. It really discourages anyone from taking up cycling which is a shame because the less people in cars, the less traffic there is! Separated bike lanes would help a lot as well as traffic calming. When I first started commuting by bike, I would stop and talk to people who honked at me and my daughter who was in a trailer. Some people were polite and didn't realize what the experience was like being on a bike. Some were less accepting to conversation but face to face, they would at least listen to me. The common thing that I noticed was that they all seemed to want to honk and get away with it and act like a spoiled child when caught. It's really unfortunate that people in cars have become so antisocial. Lately, I stopped talking people most of the time. I might change some minds by talking to people but I mostly don't want to waste my time. I do give a friendly tap on the mirror if I need to let them know they are being inconsiderate or doing something dangerous. But I'm tired of lecturing people and just want to get to my destination without getting harassed. I try to remember to not take it personally. People in cars will find any excuse to honk at cyclists because they don't like sharing the road. That's it. They don't care about the rules/laws. Also, they don't know how loud (and dangerous) honking is to people outside of a car, which however doesn't excuse their behavior. I once even had a firetruck honk at us (we went on red 2 seconds before it went green to avoid having to mix with cars). They guys in the fire truck had their ear protection on while they sat and blew their horn. Way to be safe fire department...

I know it sucks, I've been riding for 14 years. At some point you just have to develop thicker skin. It would be nice if people were more thoughtful but we are not. You need to be more careful, there are a lot of guns in this country.
@RidingBikesinSanDiego
@RidingBikesinSanDiego 15 дней назад
People always mention that drivers might have guns. That's a possibility, but why pull out a gun when you can just use the weapon you're driving? People get a way with literal murder daily by using their cars instead of other weapons.

why rage over such a minor thing? you are the only one causing problems in this video blocking traffic and threatening people.

I'll invite you to go back to the video, where I question my own response, and also explain why I'm responding the way I am. If you think a driver honking at a person who is riding where they're supposed to be isn't causing a probem, you might be at the wrong channel. And it's rich for you to post that I'm "threatening" someone who is driving a multi-ton weapon right at me. But go off, boy

our brother in Christ, who hurt you? Surely you can see the BIKE LANE at the 0:18 second mark. The 2 ton car is more of a weapon than a bicycle. Are you okay?
