Fucking hell, didn't recognise Chris Harris at first. Anyway, just bought the TDi 2.0L and it's lush. Big difference in ride quality when in comfort mode (beautifully soft suspension, absorbs everything) and the sport mode which is much stiffer. Really nice interior. I managed to get mine for £2,000 less than the guy paid for it 7 months ago :D It looks amazing and, weirdly, not many around.
Chris Harris is superb. Finally a motoring journalist that doesn't suffer from 'Clarksonitis'. There's only one Clarkson, there's only one Chris Harris!
It sure would be nice if VW would "engage" some of us old Scirocco enthusiasts in North America. Did you hear that (@ 5:04), Volkswagen? "VWUK won't be able to import enough of [the car that you folks said wouldn't sell in the US]" And don’t give us any more of that price point baloney, either. Those of us who held our beloved Type 53’s & Type 53b’s together with pizza delivery & retail jobs, in the 80’s & 90’s have grown up. We’re making real money now, our kids are out of the house, and we’ve been getting by with Jetta’s, 4-door Golf’s, and Routan’s long enough. It’s time for you [VW] to reward our loyalty and PLEASE just bring us this car!
@VanTheManSLB i think its more fun because it can shift up and down quicker and smoother than a manual and the exhaust makes a delightful little pop when you shift up at high revs. the mpg is also more in the dsg and i think you get the both of best worlds
@VanTheManSLB well i cant say ive had any problems with it, the shifting is very smooth and i think it performs well both in the city and when your driving on country roads giving it the beans. Even if i have any problems with it im not bothered because i have a warantee that covers the car for the four year finance deal i have with volkswagen, and then if i keep the car i can take on an additional warantee plan with vw for up to 60k miles for as little as 120 pounds a year
fish fingers I paid £400 ish to replace them with the latest revision for peace of mind. Mind's the 2 litre, i believe the issue was much worse on the old 1.4 engine.
@@staggabob @fish fingers I bought a 2011 second hand 1.4 CAXA 122hp. 1 year ago with 85.000 Km. Now is 100.000 Km. It's Ok for the moment. I made a dino run and it's 132hp and 225 nm. It's good! :D
@@oscaraullon I would still pay the few hundred to replace the tensioners rather than chancing it. If they go wrong and you get lucky you'll hear a rattle on startup a few times before they fail, if not you'll try to turn the engine over one morning and it'll shit itself- in that case you'll be looking at £/EU1000's for a new engine! Weird, it says my last comment is from a year ago but I sold my Scirocco nearly 2 years ago. Nothing wrong with the car, it was lovely- I just fancied more power!
