With a fleet of more than 150 trucks, Simons National Carriers operates terminals in every Australian state. We follow Greg and Frank as they travel through Australia's outback from Brisbane to Darwin on never stopping truck.
Big Australia - From Season 1 Episode 2 "Trucking": Trucks are the red blood cells of the nation. On every Australian road, in every city and town and in the outback, trucks deliver the staples of life. Three quarters of Australia’s domestic freight is delivered by road.
We take the journey along diverse routes - from long haul through the outback to the spectacular beach and coastal region of eastern Australia. We meet the characters at each pit-stop and deliver goods which are as varied as the route itself. We go behind the scenes to follow the logistics of how daily goods and major industrial products are warehoused at and transported from one of Australia’s largest nationwide trucking operations.
What's the longest journey you've ever undertaken?
Big Australia highlights some of the mega projects and operations that shape the country. It demonstrates the sheer scale and brilliance of these projects taking viewers to the frontline of some of the nations biggest industries and beyond.

Why so much drama,crap happens here in Canada also. but believe me, I have respect for many drivers in so many places in this world, driver's are just doing thier jobs right. Just as some of us run the mountain's between British Columbia and Alberta, all the way to Ontario, and back to B.C in four and a half days (running two drivers). Any way, there is a road called "The Highway Of Death" in British Columbia, and if you treat it right, its just another run in park, but, if you don't it will bite your ass. I am now retired at 82 years old, and want to go back to the fun and the problems from running from Vancouver to Toronto in the winterr time, it was a challenge some times, but I loved all of those twenty plus years that I drove those roads. So you road train driver's in Austrailia, you and I know that to do the work we all are doing, it needs expierance to do it right. To one and all, run safe at all times, to you all, where ever you maybe.

53.5 meters = 175.6+ feet long. Car drivers in USofA can’t/don’t like trucks as long as they are. They surely would not like trucks that long here. What about portable parking lots?? (Car haulers)

That would make the third trailer not possible anymore, as it would go over 53,5 meter total length which is not allowed. Not economically feasible. Besides, American trucks are not suited for Aussie road and climate conditions. Aussie trucks are.

In Europe a fraction of a percent are longnose (torpedo) prime movers, most of those are show boats. It does not make sense to waste those metres on an engine when you can use them on the trailer side. Maximum length of a truck/trailer in the EU is 18 meters, 25,5 in some areas.

You guys don't have length restrictions like we used to have in North America in the 70s. So my question is why do you still use cab over trucks. I drove those bone shakers in the 70s. I'm so glad for conventionals that we drive today. What's up with the cab overs? My other question is, why do lots of your trucks have screens on the bottom of your windshields? Keep on truckin' !
@thadlm2698
@thadlm2698 Год назад
Those wire screens are to protect the truck windshields from stones, rocks and other debris.

Sir, cabovers with good suspension technology, Air ride front axle, Air ride cab and Air ride seats are far from those american cabovers you dealt with.
@henryblanton6992
@henryblanton6992 Год назад
Volvo Cabover cabs, while able to be tilted forward, are suspended on 4 coil springs or optional Air Bags. With their set back independent front axles the Volvos ride smoother than most American Large Cars. Also, the cabs of ALL the current Volvos are structurally stronger and safer than any North American Brands.
@howardsimpson489
@howardsimpson489 Год назад
The screens are to stop stray camels, kangaroos, steers coming thru the windshield. Miles of outback roads have no fences, roos just jump them anyway. Lower down you will see the roo bars to save the radiator.
