I have watched many trainers of horses and I think you are the best. Kindness and slow progress is the best way to develop a horse with a heart to do his work and to please his trainer. So many trainers are rough handlers and that makes a horse (or any animal) not trusting of the humans. You have the heart and spirit to give these horses their best start on their journey and they are so fortunate that their humans invest in training of your caliber. ❤️

The way that I secure the bridle on my draft horses is by running the throat latch through the ring on their halter. I leave halters on under the bridle so that I can safely tie them up when working. A friend uses a bit of string to tie the part of the bridle and the part of the halter that goes over the horses pole together. I have also seen bridles that incorporate a halter type of feature so that you can tie up the horse without using the bit. I think they are based on bridles from endurance riding that were then adapted to driving. The head rubbing when resting is very annoying. I try to discourage it by making them go back to work. This works with the horses that want more rest time but not with the fidgety horse that would prefer to move even when very tired. I never seem to be be able to verbally correct the head rubbing without generating confusion in the horse about what I am correcting (they try to move off then then get frustrated about being stopped).
