Ooofff… you need a set of transport wheels and a tire rack for the trailer to keep the tires off the ground. That’s the setup most formula cars use to transport, at least that’s what we used when I was involved in F2000. They look like bicycle wheels but with center lock or patterned for lugs. Gives you more room in the trailer too since the wheels are much skinnier. The tires are solid so you can strap down as tight as it will go. Also, look to Avon for tires, worth every penny and a solid service life for a weekend warrior. Can’t wait to see more formula content!

2:45 A lot of people may already realize this, but Assetto Corsa is a really good sim. It has some of the most accurate physics you can find in a racing sim, and the force-feedback it gives for wheel setups is also really good. With CSP and Content Manager, its definitely my favorite driving sim, espescially in VR.

Watching Dr. Dahm deal with Weber problems (my problems) put a smile on my face Idle EGT was high because something obstructed your fuel passage to the idle circuit on one half of the carb, making half of the engine run lean under ~3k until you corrected it (revving it out.) Check out your fuel filter! Maybe go to a more fine micron rating. 🤘🏻

0:56 the secret sauce is to make custom pyramids that hold the car up in the trailer by the jacking points. Then you can put the straps on proper. You can make them out of wood. No need for billet (at first). I would not recommend using stands. These pyramids should be at the minimum lift point and with a very wide base (to prevent tipping). This is also a tool you'll use in storage so you don't let the car sit on the expensive tires or on the expensive suspension. Mind you, this should be done for every car that doesn't get rotated at least once every two~three weeks. This saves tires, bushings and the suspension (active bits). For myself, i have them where one of the sides of the pyramid base is rounded, i pop them under the car at an angle with the tip wedged into the jacking point, then push the car forward and all four pop into place. Saves time when you "load" the car. Obviously, taking it off requires a jack).

Rob, ratcheting over the tires won't hurt them. What I always did for hauling my and ,my customer open wheel cars (FF and F2000) was air up the tires to 25 psi before loading into the trailer. This gives you a bit more ride height making loading easier but also makes it a snap to ratchet down the car with straps over the tire. Then trackside when you go to set tire pressure you bleed the tires down to the required pressure. 25 psi isn't too much for the tire and won't hurt them in any way. Next, DO NOT tow a car in gear, any car but especially a Hewland gearbox. Remember they have no synchros, just dog rings and the gears so if you tow in gear any movement applies force to the gear teeth. Towing wheels are a great idea, get yourself a set of cast aluminum motorcycle wheels and on your lathe make adapters to fit your hubs, then weld them together. Lastly, get yourself a spare nose, nose bar and front wings and a complete rear wing assembly, mounting struts and all. The bent nose bar you straightened is junk, toss it in the metal recycle bin as it will bend again from downforce. Ask me how I know..... :) By having a complete spare nose with wings ready to install you won't lose a day at the track from a simple off track excursion or the car coming loose in the trailer! Remember to set the wing angles the same on the spare nose! PS: Those mufflers use lava rock along with the packing material. At least they used to use lava rock, maybe that has changed over time. To be legal for SCCA Formula Mazda/FX you have to use the required muffler, if you aren't worried about that them by all means, titanium!

When my Beetle was still on Webers it'd load up like that, misfire, I'd just drive it around and before long the MSD ignition would blast off the fouled plugs and solve the misfire. Basically the weber is a race carb, it hates idling. So often you end up with a compromised AFR at idle, making it load up unless you just get it out on track.

I swear the old Mazda comp/Mazdaspeed motorsports race mufflers used Lava rock as a packing to deal with the heat. Maybe that’s what this is and what’s in that muffler? They rattled like a box of rocks and weighted a ton.

Mufflers and ignitions are wear items. Guys would pick up 5-10hp after refreshing them, usually before big races like June sprints or the runoffs.

I have dual wideband and dual EGT’s on my 13B, and I noticed rear rotor was down about 150°c compared to front rotor, did a comp test and it was just under 50psi on rear 🤦🏻‍♂️, EGT may be mediocre for tuning but def good for spotting problems 😅

That looked like a Borla XR1 muffler. For how hot the exhaust gets on those engines, especially with the very short run from the engine to the muffler, you might need to look into Inconel.

Hey, Robert. A regular muffler will never last for the extremely hot breath of a rotary engine. The least muffler needs to be built of stainless steel. What would I use? Titanium. The warping was due to the tremendous heat of that engine. The reason the muffler failed wasn't because of the metal that was used. It was the thinness of it that was. Yes, guage wasn't thick enough. Do you know how hot the exhaust is from them? More than 700 degrees fierenheit. The reason why it's so hot is for the same reason as I described to you in the past posts I sent to you.

I did what you did to your muffler on my cr250 once the core turned red hot in the silencer and burnt the fiberglass packing enough it started to clog it.

Hey Rob. Never ever should you transport a car while left in gear! Have seen many a gearbox ruined by doing this. The constant rocking back and forth will imprint the bearings onto bearing spacers shafts and gears and then they can fail. Have also seen gear teeth break off!

if your transporting a vehicle in a trailer, id say dont put it in gear but keep the handbrake up, wouldnt wanna mess up the engine/trans from back and forth forces, and more ratchet straps lol
