bought mine as a fun car whilst i was saving up for a gt86, ended up ditching the idea of getting a 86 and love my s2000 to bits cant find anything to replace it which offers the same sort of experience,

great video, I bought an S2000 back in 1999, always loved that car it was so raw. A few years ago I bought another one (also an AP2 2005). A truly great car, will always put a smile on your face if you love driving.

The s2000 is so cool and roars to life

I've been a car guy for 30 years, a Honda guy for 20 years and have been a certified automotive tec for +15 years. I've taken thousands of cars on test drives, including dozens of +$100k cars. The S2000 is the greatest roadster I've ever had the pleasure of driving. I've put over 140 miles in AP1s and about 60-80 miles in AP2's, (5-10 mile "test drives" at at time.) The S2k is perfection.

You’ve got to be on a really bad mood to not have a blast driving as s2000. Such an engaging and enjoyable experience. Plan to have mine forever!

my friend recently bought an AP1 and I got the chance to drive it. The most fun and amazing driving experience of any car I have driven. The notchy gearbox paired with the 9000 rpm redline is addicting and you can tell the car wants to be driven hard.

This car was my dream car along with an na1 nsx as a kid: that sound was everything to me. A truly magical vehicle: that front fender curve is so freaking gorgeous.

This is why the S2000 has been one of my dream cars. Will definitely own one of these in my lifetime.

Best s2000 video I’ve seen

Been having my 05 for three years now. Drove across the country. Never got tired of driving. So comfortable on highway. Best to drive in twisty canyon roads. No cops, no limit. Hugs those tight high dangerous elevation roads. Wife will not let me sell it when I tease her of selling.

I've been fortunate to have owned many nice/fast cars, but the ap1 I had was one I really regret letting go. So fun to drive and the gearbox is probably one of the best that's been built by any car manufacturer.

The more I watch this video, the more I admittedly want to list my NB Miata for sale to get into an S2000.. shameful, I know, to turn to the dark side but I’ve loved these things for as long as I’ve loved miatas at my first job when I was 16 working at a grocery store, we had a regular customer who came in. He drove a white AP1, almost exactly like this. Lowered for functionality, Invidia exhaust, silver RPF1’s with a meaty tire setup. Each time he came in, we talked cars while the sun beamed down on his S2, always with the top down looking right out of a brochure. just a kid with a miata. One time I told him how lucky he was to own one, and I’ll never forget, he said “Not lucky, it’s all hard work” or something to that effect. It stuck with me all these years later. Ironically he came into the job I work at now and we recognized each other. Still drives that gorgeous white S2000 I see from time to time. He said he’s thinking about moving on from it sometime soon and gave me his phone number, said he’ll let me know when he’s ready to let it go. There might be 2 japanese convertible track cars in my driveway in the near future god willing :) the NB is never leaving my hands.

The Providence & Worcester RR bridge got me all nostalgic. From Burrillville and visited up around Uxbridge/Milford/Worcester often as a teen. Been 30 years since I lived up there. For me, my combination is an 07 NFR and a 00 Tundra. Perfect combination. One I can haul lumber, the other one haul a** lol

As much as I love my ‘19 Accord Sport 2.0T, there’s just nothing like that raw feel and sound of the high-revving, NA, VTEC Hondas of yesteryear

Ive owned 2 S2000s. I loved them both so much. Such an amazing car. I've converted Honda haters into Honda appreciators with both my S2000s. This is car you need to drive to truly understand purity and the essence of why its such a fun car to live with. I've since traded in my last S2000 for a 19' Type R. I stand by my decision. I love my Type R so goddamn much but sometimes I miss the vtec and the convertible fun only the S2000 can deliver. I will definitely get another one when I have more garage space.

the lack of steering feel WAS one of the criticism of the cars when it was on sale. i owned one, its true. lacks textural information. but everything else about the chassis transmitted good sensory information to the driver

Wow! The opening has my attention. I asked my mechanic friend for advice about a car. My heart being set on a Porsche, he suggested that I look for an S2000 instead. I was skeptical until I saw your video, Ted. Why did they stop making this? Iterate, Honda, and give us another one!

I have had MULTIPLE S2000s and I have got to say I still love my 2003 S2000 with the 2006 transmission for the shorter 1-4 gear ratio. The ND2 Miata for autocross is just the better option and it's a better car for daily driving. But my S2000 is my favorite car I have owned and everything I have tried as a used car dealer doesn't fill the void. A 996 GT3 is the only thing I would pick over this.

I'd keep a S2000 stock, I'm all for stock on any car.

That note about your dad is so hilarious to me, when I was in middle school I had a school project to “design” a car and as “research” I had my dad take me to a Lexus dealership and we did a test drive in an ISF! I was too young to drive of course but it was so much fun to ride in the back seat for half an hour

Nothing like a throaty Honda. The sound honestly feels very similar to the modded exhaust on my dad's 1988 D16A9 non-vtec CRX. Still gets me giddy, even as I enter my 30's.

There are two types of people talking sheet about S2000. Jealous haters and those who never drove one. And driving means driving by a driver. Braking, cornering, shifting gears, balancing the car , reving high that F engine ,not just step on the pedal on the highway from 2000 rpms

I love them! They are pricey and I would end up making it into yet another race car. So I got an RSX Type S. K20 turned up a bit. Revs to 8800 and has a great gearbox. Makes a great daily as the suspension is so bad all you can do is make VTEK noises and smile...kinda stealthy too

Had my Suzuka Blue 2003 for four years I've gotten pulled over three times in the last year: all were "allegedly" 20-30 over speed limit. The car is so stable on the highway.

That clutch delay valve will save your motor especially with that shifter being so short and gears so close to each other.

Great review. You mentioned something that many Porsche purists don't realize and that's that Honda had great EPAS back in the early 2000's. I had an 8th Gen Si and the steering (and LSD) were phenomenal especially for a car of that price, and I've driven a 991. The S2k for me was almost a don't meet your heroes kind of moment. As a Honda fanboy for years they were always the highwater mark but I was a little disappointed with the AP1 I drove. It revs for days but it really felt like a RWD version of the Si I had and I guess I was expecting more. I'm assuming the AP2 makes up for what I was lacking. Granted this coming from a *very* satisfied boxster S owner (so I'm guessing the 100ft lb of torque difference has something to do with it). With that said you are 100% right that Honda has their tactile controls figured out like Porsche. However given the prices of these things you can get a decent 987S for the same money, and that argument comes down to taste. On the track the S2k is probably pretty damn exciting; lighter and more tossable, But I for one, can't drive around at 8K rpm all day, and anything under 4K the engine is basically useless. And for that reason, I enjoy 3.2L of flat six glory and all of it's burbling glory. Let me know if you'd like to review it some time I'm only a few towns over from you (and yes it's modded).

I do want to point out the gauges are F1 inspired from the Honda McLaren cars of the 90's. They arent digital and just use a few incadecent bulbs to light it up. It has analog inputs even for the RPM

Get one while they're somewhat cheap. Here in Portugal you won't find one for less than €25k.

I was going to get a s2000 as my first car but my parents thought it was too small and dangerous so I ended up getting a mustang kinda wish they let me get this after watching this

I bought a brand new 2007 AP2 in Laguna Blue off of the showroom floor in Williamsburg, VA in 2007. I had that car for 3yrs and absolutely REGRET selling it. Now I'm searching for another! :D
